      There was supposed to be a 14 inch and 16 inch ipad pro, or ipad ultra, I'm kinda disappointed about the new ipad pro, lack of ssd, lack of software, lack of colours, and no open source apps like VS code or android and Windows apps. Wish they can make all this come true in 2025 or 2026.

  • @tronam

    There's a technical reason why they had to update the 6 year old v2 pencil the way they did. Users have been complaining for years about the FaceTime camera being way off to the left in landscape orientation, but moving the camera to the long side required re-engineering the pencil charging and magnet configuration. This unfortunately meant breaking compatibility in both directions. Yes it’s annoying, but it's not arbitrary.

    • @sheepaxer1348
      @sheepaxer1348 7 месяцев назад

      It’s honestly a change for the better, and will allow them to ditch the current Apple Pencil 2 as soon as the mini is updated to support the Pencil Pro. Probably will be two pencils then : the usbc one and the pro

  • @daniebello
    @daniebello 7 месяцев назад +4

    It’s a hardware incompatibility not software. The camera moving from the portrait, to the landscape orientation require them to change the magnet/charging configuration on the iPad and in the pencil itself. They are physically incompatible with older models.

    The new iPad air I think is the more reasonably option now! 128GB base storage, M2 chip which is awesome, can do all the things that average people want from an iPad but with good price now. I have the M1 256gb and it’s super fast and capable

      I'm an artist so for me the use case is great now, but more because of the new screen and the new pen. A shame the pen doesn't have backwards compatibility. I have an M1 with 128gb, but only 8gb of memory Is hell for an artist, I get limited layers on procreate, so now I'm going to open the pocket to get the M4 1TB. (even though I have the Mac M1 Max and a Wacom)

      @@BetterCreating for the common daily user it is without any doubts! Especially the 13inch one! BUT: Ill go for basic Pro due to better display and raw power in current time and there is another reason: it will be very long term device. With this huge power it is able to serve for very long time. So in other words: it may serve even two times longer then mentioned Air so from final angle of view you can save money! As we know: "I am not so rich to buy cheap stuff!".

    A few mistakes. The 11" iPad Pro is 5.3mm thin. The 13" iPad Pro is 5.1mm. And the increase in price is actually half as indicated because the base storage was doubled. The Pencil compatibility can't be updated via software -- the placements of the magnets to attach is different because of the new front-facing camera setup, and the haptics and other new features.

    • @BetterCreating
      @BetterCreating  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks - nice spot on the storage. Very true - my point however was more on fact that the 11 & 13 now have same specs so a big leap between them. Yes - error - I accidentally got the 5.1 / 5.3 wrong way around: apologies: 5.1 is presumably possible on the 13 due to more lateral space for the build and what needs to fit. Yes - compatibility if the Apple Pencil is clearly linked to the landscape camera, but I still wonder (as per MKBHD on recent waveform) if it there was not other options for the magnets to and older pencils that could have been considered. What I like thou: is that Apple are totally listening to feedback and offering great new options here. Cheers !

    Would you care for a thinner iPad or one with more battery that lasts longer and before you jump saying it already lasts all day, think in 3 years time it could have done less charge cycles, so the battery will be in a better condition !!! Oleds and Tandem Oleds have burnins. So Apple have released a tech that’s new, for which there is no benchmark. I have lost an iPad because of a software update from Apple and because it was out of warranty they wanted me to pay the entire cost of the iPad for just another 3 months of warranty. So my view is wait and watch before you jump

    • @BetterCreating

      I think I agree on the wait and watch to see what people say on the OLEDs and battery... unless you have means and access I guess. let's see - but I'm super excited to see the tech move to other devices: I think the big one here is the M3-M4 leap being all about efficiency - Apple needed to do this as reports on M3 heat have been a thing i think - sounds like a great step in the right direction :)

    I ditched my laptop for an iPad Pro 6 years ago and never looked back. As an artist, it is the single best product Apple has ever made. Not only is it the best digital sketchbook with the Apple pencil… it does everything better than my laptop ever could. It’s better for content creation & media consumption. Plus it’s lighter & thinner than any laptop. I love this thing. I know some complain that it doesn’t run MacOS. Perhaps Apple someday will enable an iPad to run MacOS, But I don’t care. I have completely adopted to an iPad OS only workflow. My 2018 iPad Pro still kicks ass, but I may finally be tempted to upgrade to one of the new OLED iPad Pros with the new Apple Pencil.

    PENCIL PRO ... Well, I bought the original Pencil, didn't use it much. Bought the updated Pencil for my iPad Pro 11 in 2018 ... still haven't used it much. If I buy a new iPad this year, as I was planning to, I don't plan to buy another Pencil since I likely won't use it. I don't do a lot of drawing and prefer to use my finger for pointing.
    What I do a good bit of is photography and, given that my cameras have now settled into the 40-60 Mpixel range, the iPad Pro's M4 chip seems a sensible investment in processing power for doing raw conversion and rendering. A 1T storage system also seems a good investment given the successful use of my existing iPad Pro 11" with 1T storage the past five-six years.
    As to what this all means for Apple's future and AI stuff, well, Apple I'm sure has their future plans well in hand, and I use very little of AI stuff. Never use it in photography, never use it other than where it does sensible things like improve search capabilities, etc.

    I can't figure out what's so interesting about the iPad Pro. If it has a better screen, you can see better content on a $1500 device!!!! Yes, it comes with an M4, more powerful than a desktop computer, but it basically has no applications, ok ok, it has a new Final Cut, hmmm but it's true that the final cut of macbook pro allows that and much more and cheaper!!! In short: sales of the iPad dropped a lot, they put an M4 in it, they are going to give it a few months as a single device, to increase sales, later they will release better air versions, pro versions that will be even better... The problem with the iPad It is not its thickness, it is not capacity, it is not battery, it is not weight, it is IPAD OS.

    • @JaimeChereau
      @JaimeChereau 7 месяцев назад

    I agree with you that this is profoundly annoying, but it is not a marketing gimmick and it's not fixable in software. This is a direct result of moving the front-facing camera to the long side, which everyone has been prattling about for years. Moving the camera sensor to that side meant that the pencil's magnets had to be moved - as simple as that. Try fixing that in software and see how far you get.

    I wouldn't hold my breath on features coming to iPadOS 18. Why? Because, I do this every year and every year I'm left disappointed. However, what I do want is access to the file system, or at least a home folder, like we have on macOS (ripple effect - multi-user profiles), and we can grant apps read/write access to specific files/folders. Then instead of the crappy Files app, give us an iPadOS-specific Finder app, and a Terminal app. That will then actually make the iPad useful for software engineers. Until that day arrives, if it ever does, I'll stick with my Mac.
    Everybody who uses an iPad today eventually ends up fighting sandboxing. Don't get me wrong, sandboxing is awesome, but giving apps the ability to access shared local storage opens up a myriad of opportunities.

    ipad pro unreasonable pricing corporate greed at its worst only 1tb to get the new nano texture glass guess more regulations to control corporate greed would be most welcome and they don't even bother to compare the m4 with m3 older accessories not compatible with the new ipad pro same as with the new accessories taking out ultra wide camera while also charging more should we be grateful? smh

    I was super underwhelmed by their announcements... sure there was some cool things, but man... that weak performance boost, especially jumping from m2 to m4... very poor jump in performance in that regards and generally they should have gone with a price drop across all their products.
    Apple is becoming a joke... I do absolutely love the iPhone, Airpods, Apple TV and the iPads (not the Macs though.. I tried it and holy crap, what a horrible, slow, broken system.. you can't even remove mouse acceleration without downloading a program to do so... jeeze)... well, and I'd definitely love to get the new iPad pro... but paying that much for something that isn't much better than the new iPad Air... (which is also too expensive).
    Also, they write on the scandinavian sites that the basic ipad got a price drop, yet.. it hasn't... what a scam.
    Furthermore, literally nobody asked for a thinner iPad... would rather have a better, more powerful machine, with a better battery and keep the previous thickness or even slightly thicker.
