Amazing treat to see this! Thank you for making this video. We moved to Cumbernauld in 1963 and the Town Centre was in its Phase 1 stage with promises of great things to come. Now I can see what they have brought about. Most of what this tour covers was open land when I lived there. Not any more. "Everything under one roof" was the claim that was made, and it looks like that is still the case. But is it a successful town centre? It would be interesting to hear from people who know the place to have the answer to that.
The new part is called the Antonine centre and was built maybe ten or fifteen years ago after the new Tesco was built. The original parts of the centre aren't as popular as they once were before and many of the larger chain stores have moved and it's mainly discount shops and smaller non chain shops and different types of everyday businesses with many empty units.
Lived in Abronhill for 8 months before moving down to Blackpool. Every time we came up we’d stay at the Golden Eagle Hotel ,and always drove under the bridge, and then I knew I was back In Cumbernauld. Thanks for posting.
