  • The "Sam Kwok Ma" refers to the Tin Hau, a benevolent & protective sea goddess revered by fishermen and residents in the Pearl River Delta region of Hong Kong, Macau, & eastern Guangdong. This compassionate and caring ocean goddess has long been regarded as the guardian deity by the fishermen and inhabitants of Hong Kong, Macau, and the eastern Guangdong area.
However, due to the impact of war and political turmoil, the temples dedicated to the Tin Hau were damaged, forcing her to be temporarily relocated to a temple ship moored in the Causeway Bay typhoon shelter in order to protect the goddess from harm.
Every Tin Hau Festival , the devout worshippers and fishermen would respectfully invite the Goddess to Aberdeen, where grand rituals would be held to consecrate her. The believers said that whenever the Goddess was moved from Causeway Bay to Aberdeen, unstoppable typhoons & heavy rains would ensue, as if the Goddess was expressing her discontent with the long-term confinement on the ship.
But in 2023, Tin Hau finally established a majestic stone temple in Causeway Bay, becoming a permanent holy site in Hong Kong. This year, a larger fishing boat was entrusted with the solemn duty of transporting the Tin Hau, while three other boats carried the Goddess Kwun Yam, the Iron-Crutch Lee, &the Great Sage Equalling Heaven to the typhoon shelter in Aberdeen for the grand consecration ceremony.
The devout followers were overjoyed and grateful for this auspicious moment. They firmly believe that the Tin Hau & her celestial entourage can now safely land in Aberdeen no longer troubled by the raging waves. This joyous occasion undoubtedly highlights the deep and sacred spiritual bond between the people of Hong Kong & their supreme protectress, the Goddess Tin Hau.
