You’ve moved the bunching and indecision from the wedges to the woods! I’d be willing to bet you’ll find that you want a single club at 235-ish in between 3W and 4 iron. At the lofts these are going to be set to, you’re effectively going 3W, 4W, 6W. Maybe Mizuno gets into the Mini Driver or strong 3W market next year. That’d bump the 3W out a little farther than 261 and allow for bigger gaps. Driver, mini driver, 4 wood, 7 wood going something more like 270, 245, 220 could work.
I have had a fair few fittings over the years and on the whole the fitters I have encountered have been condescending at best. This Mizuno guy is like a breath of fresh air. The only thing I heard was him trying to help. I have never had a Mizuno fitting might have to get the credit card out of the moth balls 😂
Damn you are striking it really well..! Similar set up to me at the top of the bag, ST-MAX Driver, 3wd, 5wd, but then I've a 4hybrid into 5i. It's actually reassuring to see a very similar set up. Looking forward to seeing you play even better out on the course in your coming videos.
Great fitting, love the the gapping explanation from the Gentleman from Mizuno . I got fitted with some Mizuno pro 223 2 years ago i was kind of happy with the fitting but came away feeling the guy who fitted me wanted to get it done as quick as possible. . I wish i had this guy fitting me . Great video Matt cheers and some great strikes your swing is looking like butter at the moment
Brilliant fitting. I love that idea of the 7 wood with the 5 wood shaft. I play driver, 3 wood, 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid, 5-Pw. My lofts are similar and yardages are similar. I found my 4 iron getting difficult to really hit solid all the time. When I hit it, it was too flat. I found the 4 hybrid easier to hit and higher with a better landing angle. I'm in JPX919 Forged irons, but I think my shafts are wrong or the heads and shafts aren't quite right. Close though. I feel like I'm leaving something on the table.
Absolutely brilliant Matt and at Bearwood so I know the holes. Mizuno have really got their act together across the bag and that fitting was sublime, and a 7 wood love it. Went to PXG for fitting, Gen 6, sold them within 4 weeks, now need to go Pro 243 and get that feeling I first got with my old TP9’s. Great video Matt and also great Mizuno master fitter👍
A really enjoyable vlog Matt, those mizuno woods do look the business, it would be interesting to see how they all go on the course, and now you having that 7 wood - 2iron option in your bag should give you confidence going out on the green stuff.👍
Obviously, that kink point is between 4 iron and 5 wood. Thats where the man was doing his work. He lets you hit the 4 iron and the results are already known. He lets you hit the 5 wood and the results are already known. Then, the tinkering starts. Great job. Keep the 2 iron available for the links course windy tee shots. Matt, you’re and excellent putter with that Evenroll, but it’d be cool to see a Mizuno putter fitting.
I'm playing old nike slingshot oss from 2006 which I bought used in 2012. I started to like them over the time, especially when I got better at hitting a golf club. They sound and feel nice, but the address is weirdly offset and they are just not modern irons. Last week I bought a Mizuno 921 7iron, which was a demo club, for relatively cheap. God damn that club looks and feels good. I've hit it straighter than I ever had with the nikeys, only thing that sets me a bit off is the strong loft. Anyway, I'm absolutely hyped for that new club in my bag and I'm aiming at finally getting fitted for clubs as well. Eyeballing the mizuno 925 right now, or whatever might perform better. Not sure when I'll have the budged for a full set of clubs + fitting, but if I end up with irons that are at leas as good as that mizuno club, it will be totally worth it.
I had the same scenario with wedges.i tend to sweep like yourself so I went 52 and 58 s18 old but reliable and love the blue tainted look.great to see that ego does play a big part in what choices people make. Great video.
Age 68 and ive just ditched a hybrid for a Titleist 4 driving iron, U10, i play a windy golf course, this penetrates rather than popping up into the wind. Kept the hybrid, for when i play parkland courses, the 4 iron is a great links or downland club
I moved my wedges from 50, 56, 60 to 52, 58, and as 18.3 index, I have not looked back. After watching this video, God I hope I am lucky enough to win the full bag fitting.❤
Was surprised to hear at the beginning about the 54 being redundant. I have exactly the same problem. 50, 54 and 58 but never use my 54. Maybe I should drop to two wedges too.
Really interesting about 2 wedges. I too carry T22 wedges, 52 and 58. I don’t know what I would gain by having a 3rd wedge, other than go down to 50 and up to 60 with one in the middle. Really enjoyed this video, I’ve loved Mizuno for years!
Interesting... I recently went the reverse path by putting in a 55 degree wedge with higher bounce than my 52 and 58 to give me more versatility, as well as a 10m difference between my wedges. I found the gap from 102m (52) to 78m (58) a little daunting at times.
Everyone has been telling me to change from my 52/58 setup and add a 54 but just like you im comfortable with my setup. My problem is the top end and fitting in a club. After seeing your video i might put a 5wood in the bag as 3 wood is 255 carry.
@@Mattfryergolf When I was coached in the 80s/90s with actual wooden woods, they used to say if the tee peg went backwards it indicated a good strike, but I suspect there is no data to back that up 😁
Im started with and im still playing MP30s in 3-pw and mizi wedges, absolutely love them but i wish i could afford the pro 243/241 combos and some new mizi wedges🤤🤤😅 those look and feel so nice, the 241 4 iron feels like butter when you centre it and 12+ yrds further than my Mp30s.. just need to sell a kidney😅
full bag fitting is really not required. all it does is speed up the process. all that is really needed is finding clubs that can fulfill the club gapping of your yardage by going to your local golf shop that allows trying out individual clubs on a simulator then buying each club individually out in the driving range or golf course. sell the clubs that do not work the best then search for clubs that fit the yardage. repeat the process until the bag gapping is complete. golf shops also offer free returns of purchases after trying them out in the golf course.
Matt what Mizuno irons (all time) do you consider the best combination of feel and forgiveness? Distance isn't the biggest factor to me. I want that iron that will go 150 if I hit it out of middle, and 147 if I don't. Obvioudly a bad swing will produce crap results. That's what I mean by forgiveness. I keep trying Mizuno irons, but haven't found the ones that work with me yet.
I thought the Fitting would include the use of the Mizuno Shaft Optimizer…and start at the very beginning…find the shaft options…test to find the best fit….then fit the iron model, etc…was kinda disappointed in this approach. Full disclosure..I’m a Mizuno fitter of primarily 7i speeds from 70-~ 95 mph.
Meh, not much fitting going on, just made a mess of the top end. Would have expected the fitter to recommend an increase on 10 yard gaps on iron progression at top end (Good rule of thumb is 10% of 7i ballspeed), was it 35yards between 52 & PW?? Having that 5w set open will be interesting when you're miss is a weak spinny one to the right. Driving iron as a tee club for the courses in NW for comps you'll be playing will most likely be a better option than 5 & 7w especially when the wind blows!
All this 15 yard gap at top of bag.. I get it and all but did you guys ever her of cutting it or drawing it to get 10 more yards or 10 less yards.. Driver 3wood 5wood 2iron.. Realistically in a round you'd probably hit 5wood or 2iron once or twice
Personally feel that Matt basically ran this fitting? Was an awkward watch. Didn’t leave the fitter much options to help him. He basically just knew what he wanted. Yes they helped fit the gaps and some tweaks.
This fitting was unbearable to watch. The wedge session was a complete waste of time, there was nothing to do there, matt basically dominated the whole session. Ive never seen a fitting where the cliente basically talked and tried to impress or show off the the fitter. That was bloody awful
Too much talk and not enough fitting in this video. Section on 52 and 58 wedges could have been much shorter and still explained why Matt doesn't carry a 54 wedge..

I only use a 52 and a 57 but true on the statements. So many options that it's mind boggling. But hey, more new Mizunos! Always a fun watch Mr. Fryer.
Glad you enjoyed it 😃

My setup exactly, but my 3wd and 5wd are set to play more as a 4wd and 6wd.

Swing looks good.
Matty, that 2 iron sounds better than the hybrid! I love that 2 iron, sad to see her go. 😥
7 woods are so good! Cool to see the fitting process.
Makes me want to try a 7 wood! Excellent video.
so deserved, and striking it pure 🍻

Wow unbelievable fitting especially the 7 wood with a longer shaft part 😮😮👍👍👍👍
Who knew Sean Dyche was moonlighting as a golf fitter. J/K. Good video shows how most of us would truly benefit from a club fitting.
You must have been knackered, Matt!
Great video Matt good luck
Thanks 👍
Just perfect! Hit the clubs in your bag.
Agree with Matt on the wedges I had 4 the 3 and now 2 a 54 and 60 more feel and less thinking about which club

It's what you feel comfortable with you have to at least explore it
Alex seems a top man 👍.
200 yards t350 6 iron
210 yards t350 5 iron
220 yards tsr1 hybrid 21*
230 yards tsr2 7 wood (standard shaft length)
240 yards tsr2 3 wood (7 wood shaft length)
255 yards qi10 tour 3 wood (standard length)
Looked like he plucked that tee out of the air like Mr Miyagi at 42:02 😁
He caught about 3 😂

This shows why being able to have a full bag fitting would help so many golfers, just a shame for most of us we can't afford this luxury.
Deffo would help, even a gapping session would be just as good
@@Mattfryergolf I agree but if you find out your gapping is all wrong try explaining to the Mrs that you need another grand for golf clubs 🤣

I think some more people could if they didn’t fall for marketing stuff and replace some clubs too frequently.

Glad you enjoyed it
Think you need another fitting, after your last performance . 2nd time a charm.
First full round with them is out tomorrow 😏
Great insight curious how many balls did you hit throughout the fitting lol
Hopefully going for something forgiving. Those drivers and woods look great though. Putter next and ball?

Not had a fitting yet….keep watching this space something is coming
How can I get full free bag too?😂 Mizuno are awesome!
I play S23s in 50 and 58, I have never found a use for a 54/56.
I’m seeing more and more people only have 2 wedges outside of the pw! Interesting
@@Mattfryergolf less wedges more woods. I even dropped a 5 iron because modern club lofts are so jacked. Better off with a hybrid in that slot.
Would like to have seen a bit more of a summary at the end. Felt a bit rushed
Match them against a fitted set of Tacoma's
You will never satisfy yourself 100 percent of the bag.
