when the nes mini classic was sold out my brother showed me the the power of the retro pi at his place, i wanted to set up my own at my house so i order the canokit and followed this video step by step and everything went smooth i dont have good computer smarts and your video made it easy for me to understand. thankyou so much now instead of just 30 games on the classic i have all my favorite games for nes,snes ect..

it wont create a rom folder. And for some reason when I format the usb drive, stick it in the Pi and wait 10 mins then put it back into my PC, it always says I need to repair it? but my mac seems to work?
Mine shows the black screen with the white band(and the retropie logo) but under the band it says "configuration" when yours says 13 games available???? Any ideas???

You just open SDformatter, then make sure you are formatting the correct SDcard, name it, then click format. It'll warn you click okay twice and then you can move on to the Win32 part!

I did every thing in the guide but when I put the sd card in the raspberry pi my tv said no signal I know it aint the tv and I am using a 16 gb sd card is that why it is not working?
I plugged a 64 flash drive into the Pi for an hour and all it added was bios,roms and one other file BUT nothing in the files so I can't add any thing to it

The tutorial is pretty detailed but yeah it would have been nice to know ahead of time this was a requirement. LifeHacker puts adding ROMS as (optional) giving the impression that you can play some games out of the gate. But that doesn't seem to be the case unless I'm overlooking something. ROMs should be part of the checklist of things needed. I mean it's a bit pointless going through the whole setup exercise without them.
An emulator is basically a digital console. You're literally emulating the hardware. Saying they should tell you that downloading roms is necessary is like saying Microsoft should have to tell you buying games is necessary to play stuff on an Xbox.
I got my copy of Win32 Disk Imager off of sourceforge and it worked just fine, norton didn't say it was bad, so newer versions of norton are fine for this.
This is an awesome series mate thanks for putting it together!! I do have one question though - I seem to have a lot of input lag. I've read that this seems to be a common issue, but all the fixes seem to involve overclocking your pi but i use a raspberry pi 3 so I can't overclock it within the settings. I'm using a raspberry pi 3, retropie 4.0, 16gb class 10 sd card, ps3 dualshock control (wired/bluetooth), I've also tested this on multiple TVs/monitors, to no avail. I've played around with the GPU split but that also doesn't seem to have any effect. Same deal with video_hard_sync and video_hard_sync_frames settings. I'm really keen to solve this! Platformers are basically unplayable. The lag isn't crazy, it's probably around 200ms, but it's bad enough to not want to play any games. Any advice for me?

Ive got diablo 1 running on psx however i cant get the controls to work at all, nothing responds. i can exit (start + select) and can open retro arch setting but thats all. Have you had that rom running before? if so could you offer any advice? Keep up the good work !!
Hey, your channel is great and helped me make my first retropie project, thanks! I need to make a couple more. I still have my USB stick fully loaded with roms from my first pi project. Can I just plug that into a brand new pi and load it up on first boot or will the pi wipe the USB stick with blank roms, config, bios folders?

At what point do we reformat the SD card, you mention reformatting the SD Card, but you never actually reformatted it.
You just open SDformatter, then make sure you are formatting the correct SDcard, name it, then click format. It'll warn you click okay twice and then you can move on to the Win32 part!
