Its also not clear if it was found in the UK at all. the vikings moved around alot and the best spots to find stuff like that are in skandinavia and the swamps of northern germany.

The cross on the backside of the coin is actually what is called a wolf-cross, alot of vikings tribes had these symbols because for them it was Thors hammer, but they could tell the christians that it was a cross, so when they were outmatched they could just trade with them or hide in plane sight.

Really, the significance of the cross in religious culture dates all the way back to the Zodiac (one of the oldest conceptual images known to man) and astrological worship, which is the basis for all major religions. From there, several religions gave significance to the symbology of the cross.
Vikings actually cared about taking land, they had many settlements around Europe... Most notable in modern day France, Britain, Russia, Ireland, Iceland
