Mark, I have published dozens of romance books in German, French, Italian, and Spanish. And I have always had my best rankings in French. When I launch a book it is regularly within the top 200, sometimes in the top 100, and 2 or 3 times in the top 20.
And after doing this for a decade, I can say with confidence that the order of profitability is English, German, Italian, French, and then Spanish.
I hope that helps. Good luck reentering the French market. It might be a smaller market, but they are my most engaged non-english readers. So I love the French. 😊
Do you use a specific service or company for your translations? I've been considering it, but not sure where to start.
@@mrsiz218 for the sake of credibility, I am replying to your question from one of my author RUclips channels.
Here is the very simple 4 step process that I have used for over a decade.
1) Go to Odesk or any company where you can hire freelancers. Post an ad that says you're looking for a translator for your book who speaks the language natively and say that they have to translate a page of your book in order to be considered for the assignment.
2) You then post another ad for an editor who speaks the language natively and whose job it will be to evaluate translation samples listing them from best to worst stating why they listed each as such.
3) You then hire the translator who gets the top or second to the top ranking.
4) Acknowledge that translating your book is only a three-step process. 😊

I'd love an interview re the use of pen names. How does it work with banking and taxes etc
You still use your name and bank account for income, taxes etc. the pen name is front facing on your books. You might have a web page us8ng your pen name, you might have a fan page on Facebook but you’ll pay the bills with your own credit card and the royalties come to you.
Does anyone know what time the show starts on day 1 and ends on day 2 so I can book my train tickets?
