Really enjoyed this. The UK fly fishing scene is still underpinned by our historical class structure to a degree. The great thing is that guys like Pete are at the forefront of promoting a new generation of more freestyle fly fishers but I do worry that our numbers are dwindling as fast as the average age is rising.

This reminds me of when I did a pulpit exchange with a pastor in Edinburgh in 1994. The church made arrangements for me to fish a beat on the Spey for a week. The beat was owned by the Episcopal Church, and the bishop was friends with the retired pastor of the Church of Scotland parish i was serving in Edinburgh. There, anglers don’t start fishing until 10 pm or later. They line up and fish down the beat, and at the end of the beat walk back up to the top and start again. At midnight EVERYBODY stops fishing, gets out of the water, and sits down on the bank for TEA!😂 The anglers share their thermos of tea, or the biscuits they have brought, and after an hour break everybody gets up and starts fishing again!
