Completely normal for MLS teams, play an even match at home go to Mexico and it blows up in their faces.
The environments are different. Liga Mx plays in a hotter environment and Mls usually plays in the rain/heat/cold/etc. Adapting to weather really puts stress on your body. Trust me, it can take up to months to adjust.

Same can be said about the Leagues Cup where there's almost twice as many teams as Liga MX playing from the MLS and where all the Liga MX teams play away games and the MLS plays home and away, and the MLS didn't allow LIGA MX to borrow their facilities for training.
