Poor strategies, sloppy and inefficient communications, no effective radar, terrible mistreatment of the men by officer class, abandonment of thousands of Japanese soldiers on remote islands, terrible decisions at Guadalcanal, horrible logistics with no food for Japanese troops or naval personnel, outright stupidity and even cowardice in battle with US Navy, absolutely immoral forced suicide missions at end of war... shall I continue?

Early war, though, when they were the agressor and America had yet to gear up their factories, Japan was pretty much undisputed. The core failing (aside the the absurdly massive production difference) was the lack of flexibility their social/command structure afforded. It either went the way they wanted (which for nearly a year it did) or they die trying
