Bloom lighting really should be turned down a bit if I'm being honest, really overwhelms the imagery especially in Klonoa 2. But I'm just glad to see this franchise come back, it's been too long
We might be able to fix the bloom on the PC version. So, there's that.
Original Klonoa 2 has a certain look that I still prefer over the new one. But I'm happy Klonoa is back.

Which is why I'm always stuck with the same games I've had on my phone and Switch, and never opted to get any of the mainstreams.

Sorry, I am kinda dumb, but judging from your Klonoa PfP and MegaMan name, I am pretty sure you were joking, and yes, I am glad that there are people who actually play GOOD games these days. Like, there are so many amazing indie games too (like, Night in the Woods, Va11halla, and OneShot are three of my favourite games, there is also Undertale and DDLC, but I am pretty sure they are popular enough) which no one talks about DESPITE being LITERALLY some of the best games of ALL TIME, like, trust me, I HAVE played almost all of the classics, which usually turn out to be great btw, including Klonoa.

Most of what I said is true.
I only play the games that I feel are truly worth it, which is clearly not most mainstream games. The games that I find good that no one talks about include Klonoa, Dengeki Bunko Crossing Void, Bad Piggies, Melty Blood Type Lumina, Phantom Breaker Omnia, and many others.
However, I do agree that most of the true best games are the ones that no one talks about.

Klonoa 2 lighting feels so off, i think they need to tone down that whole affect they are going for in the lighting, feels over saturated

I like how vibrant it looks, but I don’t like how it looks like the sun is always out even in places where it’s supposed to look dark. Other then that I’m just glad we finally have a cheaper way to play these games officially.

I guess it's because they're explicitly using the Wii remake in Phantasy Reverie and not the original one as the base. You can tell because in the original Door to Phantomile, Pamela's battle arena had two pits you could fall into, while the Wii remake removed them to make the battle easier. Phantasy Reverie has the same layout as the Wii remake.
I loved klonoa as a kid! I'm thankful I'm going to be able to enjoy these games again!

My only gripe is that klonoa no longer smiles like a dummy upon being shot out of a cannon. Other than that, looks great!

outside of the obvious resolution boost the new version looks much worse.
pausing around 0:20 and 0:41 makes it very obvious to see.
Shadows look worse, less detailed textures on the fencing...in the second scene they just straight up removed tons of the more intricate things going on in the background. theres just a lot less detail on everything in the new release. it looks super flat next to the original (well, the wii version in this case).
i guess the simplest way to put it is...this new version looks very low budget. the wii version looks like a proper release from a big company for its time.
The immaculate staging, coloring and music is what DRAWS me in into the Klonoa series. Remembering the days I got a demo for the PS2 Klonoa 2. It was a dream most certainly, never got to play the full game, up until now.
Me too. I had that demo with my ps2 and fell in love. I did get the game but I think I never finished it. Probably I got stuck.

Wouldn't it have been more reasonable to make a comparison of the ACTUAL (good version) original, and not the remake of the original.
I seriously can't be the only one that thinks the re-remake of Door to Phantomile is a downgrade, right? I appreciate the difficulty options and the fact that Klonoa is back in general, but like... The new models (Aside from Hewpoe) look awful and while I'm glad Klonoa actually talks again, using the PS1 audio instead of the Wii Audio or, having the actors redo their lines (Or replace them like in Wii) feels very cheap.
Still, glad 2 is there at least, that game's a masterpiece and people finally have a chance to play it
Apart from the other things, having the Wii audio would technically be impossible, because as you said, Klonoa talks again as much as he did in the original. There wouldn't be enough voiceclips for him available to insert.
@@marinellovragovic1207 well yeah, what I meant was just redubbing it again. They didn't have an issue doing that in the Wii Remake in both Phantomilian and Japanese.
Methinks this was a budget dission, probably too why I'm pretty sure we're not getting an English dub for either game this time
@@HerotonAlmighty2011 It has been already stated as early as the official announcement of this remake that we won't be getting anything except Phantomilian voice acting.
im not sure but the white parts of all models are too white and bright, needs shadows or gradiant textures because looks too flat

The only thing (and I dunno if maybe they’ll change this) is that when Klonoa is flying through the air in Klonoa 2, his mouth is usually open and smiling whereas in the remake it’s just closed and his expression is very blank. It’s a minor complaint, but it’s more of just I hope they keep it to where he’s still just as expressive (which with the last trailer we saw we could do taunts and such) and it seems they’re sticking to it for the most part. I dunno, am I still going to play this game? Day 1 on Steam. Might even buy the Switch version too eventually. I love this game series so friggin much and I’m so happy I’ll be able to help support it again!!! Just, thank you Bandai Namco, I seriously thought this game would never get even a port, much less a full on packaged HD remaster. ;u;
Yeah its those small touches that really just adds so much life to a game. Would be cool if they add it in a patch some day. Other than that I love this series so much so I myself am gonna get what I can get!
Why did they remove the contures, the epic faces, the ambience through color palete and the atmosphere with this new graphic style? A HD version of the original would have looked a million times better.
Kind of disappointing this doesn't look universally better. The shading is a bit more awkward and uneven in many parts of the new version. It looks overall "better" but also kind of cheap, like an indie dev trying to remake a commercial game. Was hoping a little more love and care would go into a release like this.

This trailer turned me off of buying the game, i wanted to buy it with all my soul, but what have they done? Oversaturated color, unnecessary bloom, they removed details of some stages, the water effect is HORRIBLE... Why???
If it makes you feel better they got the pixel feature and change it to that

Colors are just a touch TOO vibrant imo, could stand to dark a bit or at least add some more shadows to help give a li'l more depth to everything. But that's more subjective, I also prefer the original proportions more but just my opinion.
The bloom though, is just objectively too much, tone it down, please. The sheer amount of bloom is kinda hideous. Just like Motion Blur, Bloom needs to go and stay go as post processing effects go.

The one thing I'll miss from Klonoa Wii ver. is on the water level, the distant background has a pleasant blur to it. Not a big deal, I just liked how that looked a lot.
The colours are wayyyy too saturated, please tone it down or offer the option to! Burns my eyes! Want to support Klonoa but I'm not paying for a game that hurts to look at
I'm very glad that Stepping Wind was used for the comparison trailer. It's one of my favorite tracks from the series.
It irks me slightly that it's super overbloomed in the remake, and that they're referring to the Wiimake as the "Original Game" for Door to Phantomile... but I'm still insanely excited for the game to come out on Friday. If it does well, I hope that Klonoa comes back in full swing and gets a brand new game, or that we get a remastered and officially translated Densetsu no Star Medal. :D
I would love an HD port for klonoa heroes. Really sad it never got localized and was such a great game. I worry for the sales of this game
Something about Klonoa 2's remake model just kinda seems lifeless to me. You can really tell at 1:26 with the difference in expression. Hoping it'll look better when I see more of it.
Honestly I'm glad they've saturated the colors a lot more versus the Wii one; helps give it that surreal vibe.
tho its oversatured imo. The nuances get lost for that and I appreciate the details rather. Mind you I don't have any nostalgia bias since I never got into the Klonoa series, only hearing alot of praise about it and it being too easy.
@@Evilriku13 I mean the praise is well earned; Between being just a treat visually with very amazing level designs, and the stories seeming simple but being fairly heavy topics (Mild spoilers but the second game's story is literally dealing with grief after losing somebody you care about), but you're not wrong. It is pretty dang easy.
Even into the final levels, it doesn't ramp up the difficulty much (at least for basic completion).
That said, the oversaturation works imo, primarily for the fact it adds to the surreal vibe. It LOOKS unnatural, and that's the best part about it.
The original Klonoa 2 has a better art direction, thanks to its cell-shading that's stood the test of time almost 20 years later. The new visuals might work well for the first game, but not the second. Klonoa 2 remake looks fine, but very plain and underwhelming considering it's supposed to be a HD remake of a PS2 game. I don't get the impression it's making the most of its more powerful hardware at all.If you think I'm being unreasonable, you only need to look at Nintendo's 2.5D platformers over the past 6 years.

I'm kinda hoping for an option for English dub. I know some didn't like the Dub for Klonoa Wii, but I don't think it hurts to try again. Plus, I didn't mind the dub at all
The actors were fine. Heck i didnt mind klonoas actor. The only issue was his voice doesnt go well for his character but I dont blame them. Everyone else was great tho.
Shame tho their english voices didnt pop up in the end since it uses ps1. Can kinda see why due to the ps1 pixel feature they got

So cool that the game is so colorful, awesome they have voices from ps1, and i am grateful that the klonoa 1 have the same cute outfit from ps1and not the awful from wii. the scenes from ps1 are more magical tho. if the grass was full of small flowers the game could be more magical. if the grass was higher in the scene after klonoa meet his friend, and the flower from the butterfly was more big and beautiful it could be more perfect. from mexico with love!

Edit: To add to that, Klonoa's Wii voice probably would suit less well when coming out the original, more adorable Klonoa model.
It wouldn't technically be possible to include the Wiimake voices in this one. Klonoa had about 80% less voiceclips compared to the original game.

Apparently the United States is not getting a physical release, but Europe and Japan do.
They unfortunately confirmed that the US will not be getting a Physical Release.

If this is what the final product looks like, Klonoa 2 actually looks way better than this on an emulator with HD upscaling while Door To Phantomile is more or less the same as the Wii version from 14 years ago. I love the originals and I really want this to do well but it's not looking too hot right now. But I'm glad they're at least bothering to do the ports so more people can play the games.

All of Klonoa 2's Lighting is ruined by being too bright in the remake.
As for Klonoa 1, it's based on the code for the Wii Version (shown in the video) but the graphics are actually based on the PS1 Version. It might even just be a Remaster of the Wii Version

As for the first one, it pretty much is a glow up of the Wii version, just adjusting the lighting, fixing the textures, adding back the original PS1 script, it's pretty much what the Wiimake should've been.

But for Klonoa 2, it's not just 1 level. Down to the cutscenes, everything's glowing and anything that was obscured by darkness or just straight up a silhouette, is FULLY Visible in the remake. Just at the intro comparison

When I found out these games were being remade I couldn’t believe it. Klonoa was a childhood game of mine and never thought I’d see the day it made some sort of return. Really hoping this time around it’ll gain traction and we can see a 3rd game!
