EDGE in Tech Athena Awards 2024 | Early Career Award - Alexandra Piotrowski-Daspit

The EDGE in Tech Athena Award for Early Career recognizes promising young STEM leaders in industry, academia, or the public sector.
Nominated by Mark Saltzman, Celeste Nelson, and Taylor Feehley, the award is being presented to Dr. Alexandra Piotrowski-Daspit, a distinguished figure in the fields of biomedical engineering and internal medicine. Currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, she has carved a niche in groundbreaking research. Dr. Piotrowski-Daspit completed her Ph.D. in Chemical & Biological Engineering at Princeton University, following her bachelor’s degree from MIT.
Her journey in biomedical innovation began under the mentorship of Celeste Nelson at Princeton, where her doctoral work led to numerous first-author publications in prestigious journals. Her research, notably in three-dimensional cell culture models, has significantly advanced our understanding of tumor development and mechanics.
Now in its eighth year, the annual EDGE in Tech Symposium highlights the experiences of experts "Advancing Health Tech for All." #HealthTechforAll Panels span telehealth, IoT, medical imaging, sensors, and AI. The symposium was a great introduction to many of the ways technology is changing healthcare and promoting a greater healthspan for all. It also showcased jobs and roles for technologists in health and career paths the speakers took to get there. This event also features the EDGE in Tech Initiative Athena Awards, recognizing those who have championed the advancement of women and people of color in technology.
