Jacob is adorable. Glad they moved him to a better, drier place.
What a fabulous video Phil. Most enjoyable. Thank you. We would never know about these things without your documentary. Well done.
Hi Phil thanks for showing the power of the water. hope you didn't get to wet on the first video spot on as usual take care. 🌧️👍👍
All the narrow boaters I follow have filmed this flood. Thanks for sharing your experience. I loved it. ♥️
Aww Jacob is adoreable. I am so glad you mentioned those paddles, I wouldn’t have known that and put them back down thinking it was someone being naughty so another lesson learnt, you can tell I am new to lots of things. The flooding has been awful this year in most villages and this is so good for us to see on the canals and rivers before we finally start our dream of CC next year along with the lovely rises that will hit, from CRT, eeeekkk
Nice to see a sequence of days on the same stretch of the river. Really showed the changes to the full.
Jacob was awesome. A lot of water indeed. Loved hearing you wading in the huge puddles .!. I think it’s great fun. You’ll have to get taller wellies..LOL
This was an interesting vlog .Thank you ! It always great fun and informative…
Sounds like the ducks are having a great time ..Beautiful area Thanks again 😊
Wow very interesting and scarey too. Great vlog indeed. Stay safe. Best wishes
Thanks, you too!
Crikey, that flooding was really bad. 😮
It seems like England is really suffering with floods. I don't recall this happening so frequently. I've been to England 55 times and know its rains but not to the point of flooding like it has been. Glad your safe. Jane, Philadelphia
It may be hard for Jacob to swallow dry bread. Maybe he's trying to moisten it with saliva when he does that.
I agree. Maybe it was a little too dry for him.
He's exactly the same with carrots.
Having lived in Tackley, I know those paths, Pigeons Lock and Flights Mill very well (it was part of our family dog walk). As you know, flooding is very common there and it can be quite dramatic, particularly on the mill race and the main channel. I didn't know there was an eel trap, though.
The eel trap hasn't been used for many years but the remains are still there.
My family raised hundreds of horses over the years and I never once heard of feeding them bread. 🤔
His owners regularly give him bread as a snack.
Thank you Phil, I enjoyed the tour. What season are you in? Here on Long Island, New York Started Winter.
Autumn, still not very cold here. Wet and windy.
@@NarrowboatJourneys cold here on Long Island, NY it's 5:18am and 27° Fahrenheit 🥶
What did you do a lot Blenheim palace?
I wondered too. I spent about 25 Christmases at The Feathers in Woodstock and the Palace always allowed the guests to wonder about the grounds. Woodstock is my favorite place on t his earth. Jane, Philadelphia
Oh nothing exciting but it was a beautiful place to work.
Hi we notice you been going around grand union canal just wondering if you could help us locate some flats near the canal would be much appreciate your help thanks
I'm nowhere near that area, sorry.
Thx for sharing .. this was interesting to see… and what a fine boy Jacob is💙😊
😊 thank you
I never feed my horse bread as it can get stuck in there throat and other problems
It's just an occasional treat. He's just the same with carrots.
Very interesting and a little scary! What a lovely boy Jacob is. And for all of those commenting on the bread, as Phil said, he’s friends with the owners and I am sure he will have checked with them what he’s allowed to eat before giving ☺️
They feed him bread, and carrots as a treat. He loves it.
Lovely record of the flooding river ❤
You’re the next David Attenborough I reckon Phil! Your voice is so calm and soothing! Hope you’re well! x
Thanks Luke, we're managing, just about.
Some pretty Autumn colors in there...thanks for sloshing though to show the river. Jacob is a goofy-cute horse, all that hair! How long ago did you work at Blenheim palace?
Thank you. I worked there from about 2012 for several years.
@@NarrowboatJourneys That must have been fun to work at such a place, at least at first...You could announce to friends & family "I work at the palace!" I watched a show about baroque architecture and art the other day and it had a segment about Blenheim. Would be so fun to see in person!
What a lovely video and a beautiful place, in spite of the river breaking its bank! Thank you for narrating and documenting your part of the world. It's quite a treat!
A lot of the Rivers in the UK have dedicated flood plains (mostly fields) to stop towns and villages getting flooded. When the latter does happen it's either because of a breach in the river banks - or, more likely, local councils no longer clearing the drains! Canals weren't cut for leisure cruising.
That was a lovely lovely vlog Phil. When those fields were flooded, the scenery was stunning. Horses are lovely aren't they, and Jacob is just such a cute character. So what did you used to do at Blenheim Palace?
Those walks really tells you the difference.
Was a bit worried about Jacob, but he is fine.
Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink!
Interesting video. The flooding seems to have started early this year 😮
It can happen at any time of year. Not so often in summer but it happens several times a year.
Nice video. We've been through Pigeons lock quite a few times but never seen that path so we'll take a walk down there next time. A few years back we were at Aynho, Belchers lift bridge when there was quite a flow off the flooded fields across the towpath and into the canal near the lock. We were waiting for the level at Aynho weir lock to drop so we could get through to Nell Bridge. The river fell quite a few inches overnight and we were able to continue. The Thames was on red boards for some weeks after that.
I've been stuck at Nell bridge on several occasions.
Hi Phil. Just a question. What do you call the wooden implement that you use instead of the windless on some canals and which canals are they needed. Love all your vlogs as they informative and easy on the eye. Allan.
I've no idea what you mean?
Just found my answer Phil. They are “handspikes”. Used on the calder & hebble ( which I will be on next year , reason for question ).
Hi Phil, a brilliant vlog!!! Thanks for introducing us to Jacob, what a lovely friend to pass by on a walk. Fascinating river to watch and amazed at how much in a few days it rose!!! Glad the canal is staying at a normal level. X
