Amazing score! But also a whole slew of great ones you may love if you loved this, from Legends of the Falls, Last of the Mohicans, to Forrest Gump, Band of Brothers. Michael Giacchino has done some amazing a varied work taking over many scores in sequels to John Williams work but I first noticed him when he did the score for a Playstation 1 game "Medal of Honor", the main title music alone is captivating.
I was out in the California desert during the super bloom this year, it was a 60 degree breezy morning, the backdrop was the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountains, colorful fields of flowers, I on put my headphone and played this song, omg, what an experience.
For me personally John Barry was thee master of the movie soundtrack and this piece from Dances with Wolves was a master stroke and a quality track of the very highest order. RIP John you have certainly left the rest of humanity a superb legacy in your music and we thank you all.
John Barry - simply the best film composer ever - Just close your eyes and picture those wide open prairies and the mountainscapes. Truly hypnotic and beautiful. RIP
one of my absolute all time hands down favorite films of all time....fantastic john barry soundtrack... even john williams has said that this film soundtrack is one of his favourites and one the best ever made.
I grew up on James Bond and was amazed by how the music always seemed to get better as each movie was released. The answer was found to be summed up in two words "John Barry". Rest in peace, we love you.
These composers…modern and historical, that can think this stuff up in their head and then up it to a sheet then put it to instruments and come out with this product, are truly gifted with something almost mystical……
I agree with one of the people who earlier left a comment. Who are these people who give a thumbs down to a fine composition by the wonderful John Barry
Lana799, there are still many large areas of the US that are quite beautiful to this day. Are they untouched, no, but there are very few places left like that on the planet now. The native American Indians story is a sad one for sure. However, this situation has happened over and over again all over the world. I love this music and how it portrays the American West of this time. John Barry's score reminds of some of Aaron Copeland's music and I can't help wonder if he was influenced by it.
I´m living in the farest west of Austria. In the federal state of Vorarlberg. We have borders to three other nations. Principiality of Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Germany. We have very good relationsship to all three countries. The Lake of Constance is 35 KM away.
What a fantastic score. John Barry you may have left this mortal coil but your music will live on and on forever you were such a fantastic and diverse composer.
Once you experience this fantastic soundtrack you will be humming or whistling the tune at work all the next day. An absolutely stunning soundtrack from the master of the movie music RIP John Barry you were indeed the lord of movies.
You're so right. I saw the movie when it came out. An epic, with an epic's score. After hearing this music a few days ago I find myself trying to whistle it. It's not the same!🤦😆
well it's one of the best movies ever done and one of of old friends mister dean Semler won the academy cinematic award for it which was well and truly deserved. my God what a truly lovely film with John Barry music and Dean Semler photography. gary
There are many films I watch over and over again. DWW is one of them. Why? Because I love the music. John Barry had a gift for translating images into beautiful melody. Play this music, and I am magically transported to the battlefield, the prairie and the winter camp. It is truly brilliant, and a wonderful accolade to JB to have it performed at The Proms. Thanks for preserving his memory on RUclips.
John Barry was such a gifted composer. Does anyone in the UK remember when Gary Davies had a Sunday night show on Radio 1 and used this music for his "Lots of Love" segment?
The scene where the wolf dies in the movies always makes me cry every time, when I here this music it makes me well up more then "Baby Mine" from Dumbo . I am not ashamed to cry :)
Quite possibly one of the finest pieces of music ever composed. John Barry has always had that gifted knack of producing the proverbial rabbit out of the hat, in terms of his famous scores & this particular one of course, is no exception. Mr J Barry esq, you will be rightly remembered & spoke about in the same breath as the likes of Bach, Mozart, Brahms etc. God bless.
Y después de esta larga crisis,, llegara "EL KATANGA" (en estos tiempos,,el katanga es el trabajo,)y todo volverá a la normalidad,, lo mejor siempre esta por llegar,,
This is the theme used by PBS for The American Experience. I just found out today it was from Dances with Wolves. So beautiful. So moving! The melody breaks me up every time, without fail. The movie was amazing as well.
😂😢Maestro Stjepan Michael HAUSER & Luka Sulic this very special song is dedicated to both of you a very special classical friendships eternally. ❤❤😂😂😢😢😊😊🙏🙏🙏🙏💙💙🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🙏🙏🙏💙💙
That's a harsh statement. One could argue that it's the majestic scenery and story telling from the movie that instilled the emotions that is 're-triggered" when you hear the soundtrack on its own. I'm not a music major, but it's possible that if this score was released without the movie, it would probably not get as popular as it is.
This goes with "Wind in Hair", I will always be your friend. I understand this completely. When everything else is remote, hostile, alien, and hateful.... The cool wind blowing through yur hair is always yur friend. Feel it sometime when u go out.
I wrote lyrics to this but I'm too chicken to post them here. Should I ya think? I can't figure out the copyright owner. It may be Duchess Music Corp. ❤
Amazing how you can compose music to an environment and emotion John Barry was so in touch with that, the slaughter of the great herds of Buffalo and the subsequent destruction of the plains Indians and culture will forever be one of the greatest sins of mam
I'm gonna take a chance soon and post the lyrics i wrote for this score. It always takes me back to center. But his music does that for me, especially this one and Somewhere In Time.
in my mind...one of the best films ever...Barry's music made it great, but so dod the simplicity and brutal honesty of the story in relation to the theme
@rosten736 i agree with you John Barry is a fantastic composer, for me its one of the best, but please don't forget Thomas Newman if you dont know him go search and you will be amazed... ;)
John Barry. Dances with wolves It has to be one of the best film soundtracks ever. I never tire of it.
The BEST.
My very best soundtrack and 🎥.
One of the best composers ever in history. I cried the day he died. Not ashamed to admit it.
Totally agree as soon as I hear this I'm gone
I was out in the California desert during the super bloom this year, it was a 60 degree breezy morning, the backdrop was the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountains, colorful fields of flowers, I on put my headphone and played this song, omg, what an experience.
One of the most incredible film scores in cinematic history...
Emotional beyond words. Beautiful
I totally agree so beautiful....
BEAUTIFUL!!!!
yup, just discovered it a a month ago and agree.
Indeed it is - the film and the score - you can almost feel the winds 💞
Farewell John Barry , thank you for the brilliant music.
No music paints a better picture of the Great Plains. The score was perfect. I cannot hear " two socks" theme without getting tears.
Having visited the Great Plains and seen the movie, I can’t do anything more but have this incredible piece of music played at my funeral.
Absolutely. I fill the same
Me tooooo
For me personally John Barry was thee master of the movie soundtrack and this piece from Dances with Wolves was a master stroke and a quality track of the very highest order. RIP John you have certainly left the rest of humanity a superb legacy in your music and we thank you all.
This music is so beautiful that everytime I hear it I just start crying
Dances with Wolves, without a doubt one of the most beautiful pictures ever made.
Amen!
The movie and soundtrack alone or together are both great works of art
Totally. Holy glorious
They are a perfect match for each other and equally extraordinary
John Barry - simply the best film composer ever - Just close your eyes and picture those wide open prairies and the mountainscapes. Truly hypnotic and beautiful. RIP
He's in the top 5, for sure. The others would be Ennio Morricone, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Joe Hisaishi.
The film wouldn't be the same without this magnificent music.
My life has been enriched by this rather magnificent composition. Rest in peace, John Barry.
one of my absolute all time hands down favorite films of all time....fantastic john barry soundtrack... even john williams has said that this film soundtrack is one of his favourites and one the best ever made.
John Barry. The best string arranger. Just heartbreakingly beautiful.
Almost bring me to tears, so pure and powerful.
This music sends chills down my spine, so beautiful.
I grew up on James Bond and was amazed by how the music always seemed to get better as each movie was released. The answer was found to be summed up in two words "John Barry". Rest in peace, we love you.
Well said.
I cry hearing so wonderful music, thank you John so much.

I agree with one of the people who earlier left a comment. Who are these people who give a thumbs down to a fine composition by the wonderful John Barry
Sweeping and majestic like the American frontier. Love this theme.
this soundtrack brings back all the scenes of the movie and the tears in my eyes... love it so much.

One of the MOST beautiful anthems TO the beautiful lands of the west.
Wanna Montana: If you guys are the deplorables then I want to be one.

Imho this is the music, that has made John Barry immortale.
Touches the heart and soul. Praise to all those glorious orchestra members!

A masterpiece of music created in our lifetime.

They gave people a Knighthood for riding a bike fast or running fast and so on but nothing for John Barry. Shameful........
Yes. I don´t understand, why he was never knighted. He would have deserved it.
Beautiful music. Gives me strength through hard times.
John hope you come to us again.
Al igual que John Williams, John Barry nos dejo una excelsa composicion digna de ponderar. Danza con Lobos es propietaria de una belleza inefable.
well it's one of the best movies ever done and one of of old friends mister dean Semler won the academy cinematic award for it which was well and truly deserved. my God what a truly lovely film with John Barry music and Dean Semler photography. gary
So evocative, could have been Aaron Copland, Barry really captured it in these themes.
There are many films I watch over and over again. DWW is one of them.

I see the prairies of the Dakotas when I hear this music.
John Barry was such a gifted composer. Does anyone in the UK remember when Gary Davies had a Sunday night show on Radio 1 and used this music for his "Lots of Love" segment?
I bought the extended version on Bluray recently and I still have the theatrical version on DVD.
John Barry's music never dies neither will this tune 👌 🎶
My favorite film composer. I have over 70 of Barry's scores in my collection.
Thank you John Barry! My favorites movie are with John Barry's music: Out of Africa, Dances with Wolves...
The scene where the wolf dies in the movies always makes me cry every time, when I here this music it makes me well up more then "Baby Mine" from Dumbo . I am not ashamed to cry :)
Grande compositor, suas músicas serão eternas!
RIP from Brazil
R.I.P John Barry

Hi, found John Barry's music on RUclips, thanks. What a pleasure to listen to such beautiful arrangements. Hope he's making music in Heaven.
I got goosebumps listening to this. Such great memories of a time when movies were excellent.
Went to college with Mary McDonnell.
Must be awesome to hear this live

Dança com lobos, que bela música, que ótimo filme; triste mais um belo filme.
The emotions created by John Barry's music are unmatched an almost indescribable. I'm in tears yet again!
평화롭고, 정말 아름다운 음악 아기랑 침대에 누워 행복하게 듣고 있어요. 감사합니다. ^^
When I hear this beautiful music, I always tear up. What a gifted musician John Barry was. The movie was nothing but for the music.

My favorite piece of movie theme of all times
Let the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra play that and you will hear a breathtaking sound.
Breathtaking, beautiful music
Amazing how you can compose music to an environment and emotion John Barry was so in touch with that, the slaughter of the great herds of Buffalo and the subsequent destruction of the plains Indians and culture will forever be one of the greatest sins of mam
This stupendous theme is so gut wrenching. It will be remembered long after Dances with Wolves is forgotten
I'm gonna take a chance soon and post the lyrics i wrote for this score. It always takes me back to center. But his music does that for me, especially this one and Somewhere In Time.
Que bella musica..me transporta mas alla del infinito.y entristece.mi corazon..

Great music from a great film a classic, John Barry was a gifted composer love listening to it over and over again
Conjures images of the wildflower specked plains of the American frontier.
This is just beautiful 🐺
in my mind...one of the best films ever...Barry's music made it great, but so dod the simplicity and brutal honesty of the story in relation to the theme

Gorgeous! I could listen to it forever!
Music like this makes me alive.
I believe the meaning of this piece is the conversion of John Dunbar to Dances with Wolves.
I think the end put that trumpet players job on the line 😬
Great score, but everyone butchers it by making it a medley. 👎🏻
This is the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Rumon Gamba
