Michael Giacchino has done some amazing a varied work taking over many scores in sequels to John Williams work but I first noticed him when he did the score for a Playstation 1 game "Medal of Honor", the main title music alone is captivating.
Being a lover of all genres of music throughout 73 years of my life, John Barry's 'Dances with Wolves' theme is absolute greatest by far. There are no words in my vocabulary to describe it's tear jerking magnificence.
I was out in the California desert during the super bloom this year, it was a 60 degree breezy morning, the backdrop was the snow capped Sierra Nevada mountains, colorful fields of flowers, I on put my headphone and played this song, omg, what an experience.

That's a harsh statement. One could argue that it's the majestic scenery and story telling from the movie that instilled the emotions that is 're-triggered" when you hear the soundtrack on its own. I'm not a music major, but it's possible that if this score was released without the movie, it would probably not get as popular as it is.
well it's one of the best movies ever done and one of of old friends mister dean Semler won the academy cinematic award for it which was well and truly deserved. my God what a truly lovely film with John Barry music and Dean Semler photography. gary
Lana799, there are still many large areas of the US that are quite beautiful to this day. Are they untouched, no, but there are very few places left like that on the planet now. The native American Indians story is a sad one for sure. However, this situation has happened over and over again all over the world. I love this music and how it portrays the American West of this time. John Barry's score reminds of some of Aaron Copeland's music and I can't help wonder if he was influenced by it.

No music paints a better picture of the Great Plains. The score was perfect. I cannot hear " two socks" theme without getting tears.
