    These fifths are so incredibly hard and almost impossible for most to play in-tune. That ending of yours is just "Too Good" it brings tears and goosebumps out of me. Thank you too much...Augustin, you are absolutely the "Best" of the best!!!👍👍👍

    I find fifths so difficult especially higher up the strings, when my thin finger tips tend to end up in between the strings. Thank you for the video, the Bartok fragment sounds spectacular!

      @SofiaViviEnDo 3 года назад +2

      Oh. I have the same ugly problem. I must play with collapsed joint or I cannot. Because my finger gets into the strings. I even considered to ask my Luthier to narrow string distance about a mm. at the bridge. I know sometimes, it can be made depending on the violin

    Thank you again Augustin!
    The mistake I see often with my students (and sometimes with myself), is fixing the out-of-tune fifth by instinctively pressing the finger more. This however does not help, since the only thing that really helps is being flexible in adjusting the angle of the finger...

    Thanks for that Augustine. 5ths are "fun" ,but I find 4ths tricky to nail.....you are right,it takes a lot of practice!

    Glad you adressed the topic, I'm really having a hard time with my fifths. I think I heard Hilary Hahn saying she played some fifths high up with two fingers (but she probably has very thin fingertips !). You got so much control and command on your playing... as usual !

    • @AugustinHadelichViolin
      @AugustinHadelichViolin  4 года назад +10

      That is possible only if you have thin fingers! But with thicker fingers, playing the fifths with the same finger becomes slightly easier. To some extent violinists search for personal solutions for their hands.

    • @owdy3973
      @owdy3973 3 года назад

      My finger is too thin to play fifth with only 1 finger but I can't play with 2 fingers because my finger is somewhat a little fat :)
      This video is really REALLY HELPFUL

      @@AugustinHadelichViolin you and Hillary Hahn together in this kind of technique videos would be soooo much awesome!
      I'm on the thin fingers side. And fifths from 3rd finger 3rd position and ahead are a night mare. Only choice is collapsing joint as in guitar playing

    Practising fifths is underrated, it boosts the arm coordination and the correct positioning of your fingers, and ultimately improves intonation in every case.

    Hi Augustin, I always struggled with the double stopping at the start of the Haydn C major concerto. Although this is not just 5ths, in fact the hardest part is in 3rds with a 4th finger, some of the same issues arise about which part of the finger to use and what hand position. I wondered if you have any tips on why this passage is tricky and what to do about it?

    Just a wild ass gues, maybe he has the strings set really really low! Then your fingers might not get caught down under? I used to have my strings set really low anout 1/8 inch above fingerboard but it started choking out so put on a different bridge. The new bridge was higher of course. But at least it doesnt cut out any more. So its a trade off. Get better harmonics with low set strings or fall into a pit with the safety of higher action. I cant tell you what to do only suggest. Hope Ive helped. Sincerely chris.
