    I've always wondered how entire cities get buried underground. Prolly the most obvious answer is dust and sand piling up over hundreds of years?

    • @irighterotica
      @irighterotica 3 года назад +1

      That's not far off. Sediment, waste/trash, decay and the human tendency to stay put also play a part. Cities expand with the passing of time, and all the while everything within is constantly falling apart and whatever doesn't last is replaced, whereas anything that does (stonework, like foundations, is built upon and, eventually, over. Until it isn't.
      I'm simplifying of course, but that is more or less what happens, as I understand it.

    • @eamonquinn5188

      Usually cities that only exist when you do a dig have had all the above ground stones removed and used elsewhere, leaving the foundations which were already underground but obviously followed all the wall lines and then get earth etc covering them over the ages. In Reading UK you will find the Abbey Ruins, which are the still standing rubble cores of the walls of the old Abbey which was struck down in the reformation, all the facing stones were robbed out and re-used around the town, the relatively cheap flint cores were left behind and still stand above ground. I am sure there are many other examples; worked stone is expensive, robbing out old buildings, not so much.

    Thing I learned in 2021 - The phrase "avoid like the plague" actually means "I'm really not going to do anything except ignore the problem and let it just get completely out of control to the point where I can normalize people dying from a completely preventable issue" for roughly half of the population of the US.

      No one cared about the flu killing old granny, but now because your tv doesn't shut up about it and updates you about every single case globally(especially if they're under the age of 95), you suddenly feel concerned about preventable deaths. Dangerous freedom over tyrannical safety is always preferable to people who can think for themselves. Most disease is preventable and if you truly cared about it you'd be more concerned about the ongoing attack against the human body with modern diets and environment. You wouldn't insist everyone wear a petri dish on their face and you would encourage them to ensure the immune system that has served us since our inception as a species was in working order by eating healthy foods and taking supplements if required.

    • @Jerakk30
      @Jerakk30 3 года назад +10

      @@voteindependentforindepend7181 suddenly care about preventable deaths? I've ALWAYS CARED about preventable deaths. If I'm sick i stay away from work, i stay away from my older relatives, and i stay home so i don't spread it to others... that's how I've been for nearly 50 years. But guess what.. our immune system hasn't kept us safe. It has weaknesses, it has flaws.. the fact that people die from various diseases is proof of that. It doesn't matter how healthy you are (though it does help to a degree). That's why we have vaccines, that's why we have antibiotics, that's why we have medication. Because there's only so much the body can do on its own.

    • @voteindependentforindepend7181
      @voteindependentforindepend7181 3 года назад +1

      @@Jerakk30 good so we agree then, personal responsibility is the best course forward. Just as you would stay away from the frail, so to do the frail have a responsibility to take preventative measures ie wearing a mask, get jabbed, stay healthy ect. But noone has the right to infringe on anyone else's freedom or bodily autonomy.

    • @Jerakk30
      @Jerakk30 3 года назад +9

      @@voteindependentforindepend7181 That being said.. who's to say that people shouldn't be allowed to drink and drive? It's your freedom, your bodily autonomy. I bet you're against seatbelt laws as well. Forcing you to do something you don't want to do or you find tedious. What about safety regulations in industrial settings? Those an infringement too? Honestly it's people like you that make me wonder how in the world we managed to defeat polio. Had it not been for the mandates and precautions taken to stamp out that god awful disease (and I'm old enough to remember it) it'd still be around today. These days though.. with the advent of the commercial internet, people being able to share their thoughts/beliefs/conspiracies, god awful takes on serious situations have been able to spread.. like... well like covid itself.. or any other horrible disease. Infecting people, screwing with their judgement, shirking not only personal responsibility.. but the responsibility they should have for EVERYONE AROUND THEM. We don't live out our lives as hermits.. detached from every other person in the world.. we live in communities, we live in collectives, we all live on the same planet. So one person's actions have direct impacts on everyone else whether you like it or not. Sadly, however, a lot of people like you honestly don't give a shit about anyone else but yourself or your microbubble of close relationships. Anything out side of that.. fuck it right? Not your problem... until it does become your problem. By then, however, it's a little too late.

      @@voteindependentforindepend7181 An immune system means jack-shit when it encounters a disease that can kill you or leave you with permeant disabilities in the time that it takes for your immune system develop a counter measure against the disease. No amount of healthy eating and supplements can speed this process up. That's why vaccines are so great, they give the immune system a training dummy to practice on, so that when the real deal shows up, it knows how to kick its ass before it can do any damage. If you're truly a proponent of the power of the immune system, you should also be pro-vaccine.

      I had a full on screaming match with a "mother of 3" about whether it was international travel or not. Worked booking air travel and overheard her telling a customer NM was international travel we don't fly international. Told her to transfer the call to me. Booked the flight for the very bewildered customer and tried to politely tell co worker after the call was done about her error. She got loud reaaaal quick because of my age and her ego.
      She was put on leave for a day and made to take a test on the names of the airports we fly to again. She was also asked to apologize to me but she quit before that happened because the airport code test "was impossible."
      Good riddance.
      Can still hear her reasoning that she was right because she was a mother of three smart kids and she's not dumb. Nm is *not* a state.

    How could a meteorite possibly not be hot enough to ignite the womans pillows etc on fire???? Doesn't make sense to me.

    • @NoActuallyGo-KCUF-Yourself
      @NoActuallyGo-KCUF-Yourself 2 года назад +1

      Why do you think it would be hot?
      Meteors in the atmosphere heat up the atmosphere around them because of their speed, but the rock itself remains cold as the space it traveled through.

    • @mikemorenz2234
      @mikemorenz2234 2 года назад

      @@NoActuallyGo-KCUF-Yourself Well the fact that special heat shielding must be in place for anything exiting or entering the earths atmosphere or else it will " burn up upon re-entry" according to every nasa and any other rocketry programs that have ever existed. Thankfully our planet has such a naturally built mechanism because even small meteorites can wield substantial concussive force, which scientific evidence supports. And quite frequently when searching for meteorites in russia and other hinterland areas you can discover it's impact site due to the melting of the snow around it. It's actually the particles within our atmosphere which cause an object to become heated due to friction rather than an object igniting the atmospheric particles. P.s

    "...as long as a regulation basketball court."
    Why do Americans need to use sports arenas (football fields, basketball court, Olympic swimming pools) as units of measurement? You do realize there's something called the metric system, right?

    • @NoActuallyGo-KCUF-Yourself
      @NoActuallyGo-KCUF-Yourself 2 года назад

      Any system of measurement is as good as any other, as long as you understand the base units used.
