- U-2 Pilot Rob Rowe shares a day in the life of a U-2 pilot and his personal experiences flying the U-2 Spy Plane (including how he earned the name "Skid" due to a crash landing). Produced by Jarel & Betty Wheaton for Peninsula Seniors www.pvseniors.org based on a presentation at the Western Museum of Flight.
Great presentation. I did not know that U-2 Pilots had "toilets". I love the U-2. Not my favorite plane, but it's beautiful and cool.
LOVE his sense of humor. Great delivery and presentation!
I loved it...very entertaining. had me laughing. .. I can hear it now though: "...But, Dad you promised to be more Tom Cruise and less Jeff Goldblum around my friends!"
The man is a Ivy league grad, he's brilliant smart and has a wicked sense of humor.
57:00 I grew up in Fairfield, Ca where they have the C-5's. One day a crew where practicing landing in the C-5 by touching down then taking off again without stopping (touch and goes). Well, the gear warning alarm kept going off and it got annoying so they disabled it.
This would not have been a problem had the pilots not forgotten to lower the gears on the last landing.
A bit later I was asking a C-5 pilot in my church about the accident (which is how I know the details). He wasn't involved in the accident flight but knew the former pilots who were (the Air Force doesn't let you fly anymore if you crash doings something stupid).
He told me the flight deck is so high up a gear up landing looks and sounds just like a gear down landing. You may not even know what you did until you try to taxi off the runway or the control tower calls to let you know your Air Force career has come to an end.
This is so AWESOME!!! Greetings from the UK.
Love these videos. Great presentation.
The air frame and suit/food are literally 1950's technology, 62 years old, and this is what we're still using. Something seems to be amiss. Interesting presentation regardless.
Funny character, excellent speech.
With a last name as his, his pals had no choice but to nick name him Skid
😍
brave man rob rowe brave man
his voice sounds similar to tim robbins, very well spoken.
almost looks like him.
He's pretty salty, for a pilot, I love it.
What an interesting man, bet he has told us 1/5 of what he could.
"...a safe number. The truth would be an infinitesimally smaller number."
Very true Nick, he warned us he'd keep it short.
Just one question. How many landings did you make where you did *NOT* ground loop it?
skid row dtla lol
With the last name Rowe, you're lucky if you don't end up with the name "Mike" as your nickname. With that possibly indicating the size of a body part.
Interesting talk, but the guy sounds like at the end of the day, he hated his job...
Too much cynicism actually gets in the way of understanding what he's trying to tell.
Some gliders have flaps that go up.
Same principle..
