Choosing Simple (Finding Joy In Less & Closet Cleansing)

- I'm sharing about my closet cleansing journey NOT to project my decisions on to anyone else, but just to share my personal journey. Although I still get caught up in consumption, I'm trying to find more joy in what I contribute/create vs what I consume. I started viewing things in my home as unnecessary if they weren't being used and loved in everyday life. I started in my closet first, and I do feel so much "lighter" and free. I will be cleansing different spaces over the next few weeks. I love a good cleansing.. It's healing for me.
I like Poshmark for selling certain pieces. The downside is that they take 20%, but the upside is that you really don't need a following to post. All posts can be seen in the search engine when people are looking for certain brands or items. It's nice to earn a little $$ back from when I shopped more. I usually invest that money so it can accrue interest, and I feel less guilty about how much I spent lol. I donate a lot of clothing pieces that I think might be most needed at a local woman's shelter (jackets, lightly used shirts, tanks, jeans and pants, blankets, lightly used kitchen items, unused makeup/hygiene items, lightly used toys and clothes for kids etc). I cleanse my closet and create different piles for donating vs selling. My niece also likes to search through my closet and sometimes steals things haha
On many days, I'm chillin in leggings with my family and our animals. I'm thankful for all the experiences that led me to the person I am today. I'm just trying to choose simple, stay present.. Sending lots of love.

Rachel, I’ve been a silent viewer of your channel for just over a decade now. You are the only content creator from the time I found RUclips that I still watch. You’ve remained so humble, so reflective and so true to yourself that your content has always brought me peace and a feeling of completeness. I think the desire to pare down is quite a common experience in one’s 30s as we move away from the desperate acquisition of material things from our younger years in an attempt try to outwardly demonstrate our ‘identity’ to others, to realising what really matters is making good memories, being comfortable in our own skin and connecting with that from within. I messaged as I wanted you to know that you and your family are in my thoughts. Just know that you have much silent support out there. Sending you all peace, healing and love. 💗
I completely resonate with your message. You explained it so perfectly.. " as we move away from the desperate acquisition of material things from our younger years in an attempt to try to outwardly demonstrate our 'identity' to others"... Wow. So well put, and soooo true! Thank you.

When people say “you’ve changed” I started saying “thank you! I really hope so”. I truly believe that it’s through change that we grow ❤️
"I like seeing abundance in other area of my life" wow!!!! Yes!!!! I couldn't agree more!!!

I tend to put my hangers backwards to the hook end is facing me. That way if that stays for a few months I know to get rid of. I then would put it in a bag in my car and if somehow remember a piece of clothing I want to wear I know to keep which is rare. Then I'll donate it or give to my family.
When I shop for clothes I always think could this go with more than 2 items in my closet instead of just 1. I found this one shop with gorgeous clothes but they were pricey although I bought a few full price but most of them on sale (I only go for 40 or more % off) and they had a rack of "damaged" in which I have sewn. I love to shop at TJMaxx, Target, and thrift shops. My problem isn't just clothing though it's books. I have to cover my eyes walking by book stores haha. My town has a nice book store where I get hard copies $5 or less than $10! I love books and I listen to them on Overdrive which is free and connects to your library card.
When you mentioned of you changing I think its inevitable. Life is full of growth and change. Be who you want to be and adapt to your own needs and wants and not other people. I have followed you for years and am still here.
I just want to say you and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers as I lost my brother and remember the grief. Since then I ache for people who lose loved ones. Unfortunately my grandma just got diagnosed with bone cancer in her skull. I hate cancer.
Love and prayers heading your way 🙏 ❤️
I really love who you've become! Truly love how you see things now.
Agreed!
You are in a different season of life now. As we all are! Change and progression is vital. Priorities change, as well as our needs. Thanks for sharing.
Time changes us. Trauma changes us. Knowledge changes us. Relationships change us. To be kept in a box all your life is not healthy. The essence of who we are will never change, but we evolve! Glad to hear you've embraced that truth! ❤️
This was beautiful to read. Gave me chills. Thank you! xoxo
When you talked about how you would buy something and a year later be completely over it- I felt that. I used to get subscription boxes and I wound up with so much stuff that I didn’t need and never used. I was throwing money out the window and collecting stuff that I didn’t need. I canceled the subscription after 4 years- felt so good!
Rachel, I’m SO glad you’re posting again! I’ve been praying you’ve been feeling better and checking your channel about every day just in case you might post. I’ve discovered your channel recently and I’ve mentioned you to so many people, you’re so inspiring! You’re a wonderful person, keep it up! 🍃
Your videos bring such peace to me after a long and hard day. Thank you for that. XoXo from Croatia💜✌️
Changing through the day to day and becoming your most authentic self is beautiful. You are changing and it is beautiful. Your former life was just as beautiful because it is apart of you and you grow from that. You take with you the hard knocks of life and decide what truth you want to carry and learn from. My heartfelt condolences to your family. May the joys she created in you all grow and change you into something even more beautiful.
Rachel you have been my inspiration since past 8 years. And with this simplistic lifestyle you still inspire me.... ❤️❤️❤️
So glad you are pursuing this way of life. I did it about 4 years ago and my hubby went along with it but it’s helped me focus on my watercolor painting and reading and meditating. The first overall house decluttering is tough but it’s easy after that. The most difficult thing is not buying more stuff. I declutter by zones. So each week I am in a different area. I just spend a few minutes going through everything and seeing what we don’t use. I became a minimalist because I am chronically ill with two rare genetic disorders. It has helped me feel that the house doesn’t own or overwhelm me. I can really rest when I need to.
Funny you say spring is now your favorite!!! Mine too! You notice how beautiful and vibrant green the tender new leafs are on the trees, untouched by weather or any other elements??! Everything is sooo vibrant!
Life is so much better when we can oversee it. When I got older I simplified my life and focused on what makes me happy and content. 🤷♀️ No time for drama, life throws that enough at us x
I very much admire and appreciate your perspective.. Thank you for your authenticity and for the chill vibes you and you family radiate! 🙏🏼💛 Much peace, light and blessings to you all!
I'm 58 but just this year going through the same process. Being retired presents new everyday outfits now than what I used to wear before. I find simple is better for me as well. I still have so much to clean out and donate.
Your beautiful comment says you are beautiful soul inside out ❤️ I wish I've followers like you 😊🥰🥰
All of what you shared exudes growth, finding peace and what makes you the most joyful in this season of life. Choosing experiences over/things has been the best decision of my life. Experiences with the ones I love, friends and family are the the things I treasure most and will be with me forever.
Rachel, I'm so thankful for your videos these days, as I'm going through a very tough period now. You're like a ray of light for me, and the comforting atmosphere of your life shown here gives me hope and peace. Thank you so much and may your family be blessed 💞
Have always loved your videos for years now..loving this new style and you sharing vulnerably. So beautiful Rachel, thank you for sharing with and inspiring us💛
Rachel, I have watched your channel for a long time now and I have really appreciated your authentic channel. I love how you aren’t afraid to talk about your faith and beliefs, and how you are so sweet and pure in your joy of life. Even over video your personality is soooo refreshing. Keep being you and being joyful in God’s timing! Thank you for your joy!!
Change is a good thing, and a part of life and growth. Love the new journey you're on. God Bless! ❤
Beautiful to see you thru this immense time. Been watching you for years and I feel the depth of your emotions thru this and your last few videos. I feel grateful for your sharing though, I know you have mixed emotions doing it, but I think it's good. I held back tears as I made meatloaf tonight for my family, watching and listening to you, feeling a little ridiculous for being down on myself that I felt frustrated that I never seem to feel caught up on my house. When your house is messy, it feels so lovely still, I should feel that way more about mine. Your video made me feel like spending more time with my family and releasing my grip on perfection a little more. Thank you for being you which gave me more perspective today. 🌻
So glad to see you back. I was praying for you all. Praying for continued peace and comfort. Nothing wrong with shifting and evolving…and growing🙏🏾💗

Hi Rachel it’s SOooooo good to see you back here. What a beautiful video while you are recouping from such personal tragedy, keep on praying as I know your are.
I loved this. I’ll be 35 this year as well, I have 2 boys too 😊 and I can totally relate. It’s normal to change, it’s a good thing. I found your RUclips channel years ago and I like that you’ve naturally evolved. I find you and your content real and genuine , and it’s nice.
I love how chill and calming your videos are lately. I can tell that you appreciate simplicity even more than before. I loved when you showed the bakery you went to and showing your brother and his lovely house too. Please do more videos of you visiting your brother. You’re so blessed to be living so close to him and your boys will grow up appreciating nature and God most importantly
Thank you for your videos. Your voice and content is so calming. I love your spirit.
Not dissing the older you, but I really like this you.

You have changed since I first started following you, but I appreciate the space you are in now. I too am exchanging THINGS for EXPERIENCES. Experiences are a memory forever but things aren't. Thanks for sharing. Lisa
You guys are really sweet, simple yet hardworking. I always get motivated from you when feel low. God bless to your family dear🙌🙌😊. Love from india 🇮🇳 ❤
I'm 19, and I dream of a peaceful homestead type of life. I love who you've become Rachel! So much wisdom to share. Would love more videos of casual conversations, just like this. Love you!!!

I love your content now even more than before❤️ keep doing what you are doing bringing a little peace into our hearts ♥️
Hi Rachel, Thank you for what you do. when ever I watch your videos I get in a better mood instantly. you are so sweet, kind and real. I feel so close to you although we are thousands of miles away and we do not know each other in person. but your contents are so nice, your aesthetic is so relaxing and your energy is so calming and beautiful. I love watching your videos. and although I am not much of a participant in the comment section. I always wish the best for you and your beautiful family.
I know that the one constant thing in life is change! and it is nice to embrace the change according to where we at in our journey. our taste in cloths and material things change a lot from time to time depending on our life style and our environment. and I am with you 100%, it is better to spend the money on experiences and things that bring us the joy that will live with us for life.
I really do enjoy these calm-vibes videos of yours, Rachel ❤
I relate so much to your growth and change. I've had a very similar experience. Thanks for sharing
Hi Rachel, I have been subscribed to your channel for a very long time, since you lived in your small apartment with Bryon. I have loved watching your views and outlook change over time. It is very refreshing and honest. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on what you value now in your life. Wishing you and your family love and light ✨🙏🏻
Rachel, I relate SO much to the changes!!! Like I kept thinking "same here girl, same" 🥰 I will be 33 this year and feel you on so many levels 💛
Rachel it's so good to see you back. I know you been in full of emotions, and just trying to get back in routine after loosing a close family member. I lost my little sister thru her diabetes and renal failure. Cleansing and simplify things in the house, with my kiddos seems to work as well. I been praying for you and your family. You are loved, so loved. I love your channels. Find peace and calmness and joy, love when you are real with us and share with us in your journey.
Stumpled upon your channel. *Your a very sweet young lady. Stay the way you are, God shines out in your life, in all you say, & do. Bless you dear.
I love your calming prescence
Sure. I will do that soon. xo
Thanks for sharing your perspective Rachel. Nice seeing you friend
I just discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago. At first I was super excited to get back in touch w my former self, Ca beauty business city girl. Then to my surprise, discovering you moved to a farm and were into gardening and composting as well. I also, just recently just lost my dear friend to cancer. It was like she just vanished, the sadness and loss… It really puts things into perspective and you start to live each and every moment. I am sweating less and less of the small stuff. And yes horses are amazing but so much work unless you enjoy that. Haha which fortunately I do enjoy all of the work that goes w owning them. Peace
I have been watching you from France for 10+ years and it has felt really good seeing you being honest about changing and growing. Seeing you throughout the years got me confortable with the idea of my purpose not being permanent and me being able to evolve as well.
I used to dream of a walking closet and lv bag just like you had but now it is the sense of calmness and peace of mind I'm loving in your videos.
It's my first ever RUclips comment but seeing you being honest, I just felt like sharing too :)
Thank you for sharing your comment and sharing this journey with me. xo
You Changed in a positive way. You inspire me a lot in my daily life .
So happy to see a new video from you❤️🙏🏻
Closet cleaning ... I have to do this too. Spring is coming 🌼

I can relate to u. It's most about self, building self. Loving self and doing what self loves the most.
Sending so much love and healing your way Rachel🤍
I have been following you for a while and change is normal for everyone, we have to embrace it. Still Really enjoy your content and following your journey. Sending love ♡
Just found your channel I’ve been looking for more down to the earth lifestyle and I’ve been cleaning up for a while and for sure abundance is other parts of living a plentiful life ….keep posting 🙏🏻💖
I love your little farm & any updates you post ☺️
Hi Racheal, i ve been your silent viewer too for few years now. I’m working in a corporate company and busy with daily works 5 days a week and sometimes weekend, still struggling balancing my work life stuffs.
I really love how you teach us to appreciate every single things around us and see the beauty in it - rain, winter, plants, animals which i overlooked most of the times.
i feel calm whenever i’m watching your videos. Thanks for sharing your beautiful life with us 🌹
So good to watch your videos :) i follow you since … 7years and i love your life journey, because it resonnated with my life too
And love your transparence
😘 from France
You look beautiful without make up. So natural and true. All my support to keep going in hard times❤
I appreciate you soo much!!! 🙏
Spring has always made me happy, too! I loved hearing you talk about the California rain. I grew up in California, so I can relate. Also, a couple other similarities making me smile - the reminder that we're the same age, and the fact that both our husbands are currently heavily bearded! Haha! :) Love it!
Love this journey!
I luv the minimal way of living. 💚
I love watching your videos, I like your simplicity most.
We change through our season in life is a blessing every time.
Sendings hugs & prayers.🙏🏻💕
hello from Ukraine🇺🇦
as you may know, we are currently living through what I can call nothing less than hell on earth. videos like those you make Rachel are so calming. It's true what they are saying - happiness is in simple things
Rachel I have been following you since the old old days. Love to see your evolution as a woman, it feels like we have grown together.
Always love your videos...like you say you've chosen abundance elsewhere in your life. Hope you are all doing OK, such a hard time for your family.
Thank you for sharing. 😊💕
That sunlight and those birds chirping!!!🥰
My favorite!
I think about this a lot because I’m on a similar trajectory. I think around 2010 fast fashion was really taking off along with RUclips and haul videos and we all kind of fell in the trap. Now I try to be as minimal as possible. I just did my spring closet cleanse yesterday and got rid of my last pair of high heels that I’ve held onto for maybe 7 years or so. We all grow and change. It feels good to have less stuff to care for.
I am also turning 35 this year 22/04/2022, in South Africa 🇿🇦 that’s autumn 🍂 and to say I love autumns in 🇿🇦, they are marvellous. We have a lot of unspoiled, natural vegetation and terrains, and it looks gorgeous in fall, especially in the colder areas!!! I get how you feel about spring because I feel the same way about autumn 🍂!!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ from 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦!!!
Your videos bring so much peace and joy to my life.
P.S Those eggs are stunning at the end, how beautiful 🥚
Thank you 💞☮
Totally agree. Been through it.
Your videos reflect a side of you being a little a sad over the things which shook you.. but with every video you are showing we can't stop living life moves on and we have to as well. Hope to see a happier side you as you heal fully 😘😘
You totally give me Pisces vibes how creative you are. ❤️
I am also on this phase, when pandemic and being a new mom hit. At work I am covered with PPE, and scrub suits. Less clothes less time thinking what to wear, less insecurities of making them look good to me (since I use them often)
Hey! Just wanted to say that I'm actually really enjoying these new type of vlogs. I feel more connected. Hope you're well! :)
I find it interesting when people are surprised by people changing. It's the nature of life, to change and adapt to every season and experiences. Good or bad experiences are going to influence us and inact a change of perspective or behavior. I'm not who I was yesterday let alone days, months and especially years ago. You don't have to change but I'd be more curious if people don't a little.
I totally agree.
Sending you a box of Huggss 💛 Sunshine 🌞and crisp, clean air & light spring showers 🌦🌱
Omg when your brother opened the door I swear, it was you with whiskers hahaha wow you two look so much alike!
You changed to your new lifestyle. You look great.
I am curious as to what are you going for? So glad to see you posting again
I live not too far from that bakery and have been meaning to try it out!
Love Rachel and support in your grief. fragility of live....
I came here to watch old videos while purging closets, instead I got a new video! 👏
Love this, been doing the same❤️
I love this
“Wow, you’ve changed!” Oftentimes means, “Wow, you’ve grown!” :) Change is a wonderful part of life, and something that we enjoy seeing from you!
Love 🥰❤️
Been thinking about you and your family recently when I crochet, hope you are all doing well
Thank you.. We're moving through grief, and just trying to find joy in the present moments and our routines. Thank you for you thoughts.
Your Videos are very relexing love from Paakistaan 😊😍
I really like this side of you.
❤️❤️❤️
I’m really getting into decluttering too and just not into material things as I once was. I used to need every designer bag and whatever but not anymore. Rather donate to no kill shelters.
Interesting how time, your interests and where your children are in life influence what’s important. So lovely to share your journey with us!
I love your purple fleece flannel! Where is it from? Much love to you from chilly upstate NY!
