    I shoot pro rodeo and have been using an Atomos Ninja V as my monitor. I shoot from a tripod and have to get as low as possible so a monitor is a must. Even though I'm not using the Ninja as a recorder, I love the UI and easy-to-access controls. BUT, trying to track riders and ropers using the screen on my Sony camera is a nightmare. I just placed my order for the LH7P - I can really see the benefits of using this with a shoulder rig. Thanks for the vid - great stuff as always, Rave on!

      @@BeyondTheGame_E Yo E - I got my monitor and sadly, I had to return it.
      I had issues getting it to connect, and issues navigating the UI. I don't feel like what I got was defective, just not intuitive in any way - and honestly, really cheap feeling. I don't think that thing would've lasted long at a pro rodeo event.
      I've used the Atomos Ninja V as my monitor for at least the last 2 years and, while it's not the easiest UI to master, it's way more user-friendly, more robust, and more 'pro' if you know what I mean.
      Also, the look of the menus, the icons etc reminded me of a child's toy. Overall, it just lacked refinement IMHO.
      I'm bummed because I really would love to have the focus functionality on a larger screen.
      Anyway, different strokes, right? Have a good one - keep up the great work.

      @@MattSpaugh Hey Matt, as you said, to each their own. The Ninja V is definitely more robust and more professional. Mainly because it is a recorder and has to be built stronger to support SSD drives. I would say that in comparison with Feelworld for example who make more affordable monitors in general, the Portkeys monitor feels actually more durable to me. I do agree though that connecting wirelessly to it the first time is not easy. Once it recognizes your camera though, it's pretty much automatic. I have a Ninja V too actually but I almost never use it because I find it heavy, has too many options in the menu, and goes through batteries pretty quick. Anyway, sorry I got your hopes up about this. Hopefully it wasn't too much of a waste of your time.

    • @MattSpaugh
      @MattSpaugh Год назад

      @@BeyondTheGame_E not a waste of time at all, it's always good to try new things. I guess I'm just a monitor snob 🤣.
      I have a couple of Feelworld monitors that I use from time to time and personally, I think the build quality is better than the Portkeys but it's all so subjective - even how you build out your rig plays a role in how solid something feels., how the weight get's balanced, etc.
      It seems to me the like Sony's Creator App should be able to accomplish everything that the Portkeys monitor can. Maybe it's time to give it another shot.
      Rave on!

    Hay man thanks great video! I really had Problems with "cheap" monitors. I had one Brand with 2200 nits but outside I couldn’t see anything! Because the screens are mirroring! The ninja v mirrors less so the sun hood is a must. I don’t know about this particular one

      This is strange because you say that 2200NIT was no good and the Ninja V was better. But the Ninja V is only 1000NIT. I saw you had some nice slow motion footage. As I shoot birds in wildlife I shoot a lot of 4k 100p footage. Does this monitor still show image (and have all normal functions) when shooting at 4k 100p? I use a sony zve1. If so its an instant buy from me.

      Yes you will have an image and access to all the monitor's features at 4K/100p. I shoot at 4K/120p all the time with it. But just to be clear, the image you'll see on the monitor itself will be in 1080p even though you are recording in 4K in camera.

I am not sure if that feature is special or if every monitor does that. Learn to focus!!! If you think the camera can solve your needs buy autofocus you're wrong because one time it'll bite you on the ass. I agree with most of what you’re saying. But it’s a bit unfair to compare single shooters to sports broadcast cameramen. In broadcast, the cameraman only handles framing and focus. The exposure and colors are controlled by a separate CCU person in the control room. So it’s ultimately a 2 man job.

      @@BeyondTheGame_E Dont forget the zooming... 😉 I'm not trying to be unfair to anyone, but to follow a game with the method you are trying to teach is folly. Your right arm would be moving the tripod and your left hand should be doing the iris/zooming and framing too.. trying to pinch a monitor and capture a moving shot at the same time is a crazy idea. If you're trying to get a half decent shot close up that is...I am an ENG camera operator so know all about operating, framing, doing iris/zoom/focus all at the same as moving with the game tight enough to get useful shots. I'm really not trying to sound either big headed, arrogant or otherwise but I know what I'm talking about. Everyone shouldn't rely on autofocus... its a great skill to master focussing yourself.
