Khabarovsk - capital of Far East 2000-2018. Founded on may 31, 1858. The received city status in 1880. The name of the Khabarovsk received 2 Nov 1893 in honor of the Russian Explorer of XVII century Yerofei Pavlovich Habarova.
In may 2000, decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin in the Russian Federation was formed Federal district. Khabarovsk became the center of the far Eastern Federal district. In the fall of 2018 presidential decree cancelled.
The city repeatedly took the first places among the administrative centers of constituent entities of the Russian Federation in the contest for the title of "Most comfortable city of Russia" for 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2012.
