Usually. I've worked low paying jobs longer then I should when I liked my managers but when I get a bad one, I'm gone. Its ok to be tough if you show proper appreciation, its not hard to say thank you to an employee after their shift.
OP went out of her/his way helping until the book store manager thought they new better than the rest of them. It's sad when someone can't just do their job and leave the rest alone. 😐😑
For that plumbing story I can attest a few things, as I am a plumber! Well was before I got hurt, but hey! Involving hills and shifting soil areas can mean that you CANNOT use manual labor for digging due to OSHA safety standards. Especially if the pit will be deep, as it likely was as it involved a hill, and you need to maintain proper fall angle for the pipes to work. Too much or too little things get stuck. BUuuuut...they should have called a plumber over it, not just lawyers! If a hill was shifting that much there is no way it makes sense to continue to use the existing line. It sounds like the difficult folks were forcing it. In a situation like that its much MUCH better and cheaper to do a re-route. Cap off the line where it meets the other line, then make a new line away from the hill with proper fall angle. It would have been cheaper too, avoiding all that disposal of old line fees, and using old hookups that are generally hard to find and expensive. They may have easement access, but if its not required then they get nothing.
To me it sounds like the neighbors service line came out of their house below grade of the trunk line. So it ran flat for the most part and didn't have proper grade. When they built the house they should have built it with a sewage sump to pump sewage out of the house and up to grade of the trunk line.
I work at a small airport in PR. We were told that we could only use our phones if there isn't a plane on the tarmac or if there's nothing to do, sometimes we have to wait up to 1/2 an hour before we can load the baggage into the plane
I have been fired because the boss's son in law needed a job. I have been fired because the bearings went out on a pump shaft. I have been fired for turning in my two weeks notice. So I now do not believe companies and managers deserve a two weeks notice.
I think there should be, if there isn't already, some form of contract that you need to sign, if you decide to resign from a job. In addition, it should also be signed by your immediate boss and a third party witness. This contract, once signed, will make an offence for a supervisor to contact and demand someone comes into work when they no longer work for that company, the same will also apply to reprimands, dismissals and pay reductions which has no bearings anyway, as the former employee no longer works there. Continuous violation will result in the supervisor either being fined, sacked or even incarcerated for a month. No Karen will dare forget again!
"People don't quit jobs they quit managers" Holy shit is this so true, I had a job I loved, but our manager was horrible, I was the last to quit because I couldn't take it anymore for my own mental health and I had no friends left, just fellow co-workers who would tell at me for daring to pee when not on break and for even taking a break while they smoked outside clocked in because "they just needed the break from the stress". I got to the point of having panic attacks when I had to go to work in the parking lot and I knew I couldn't take much more so I put in my two weeks notice. On one hand I needed the money, on the other I was having full breakdowns when working 🤷🏻♀️ I miss my job, I miss the good coworkers, but boy do I not miss management
Heh, giving notice is a courtesy not a requirement ( legal or otherwise ) mostly just to not burn bridges and so you can get a good work reference if you need one. But just like employers don't need any reason or notice before shitcanning you, you as the employee don't need to give them any reason for just walking away. Damned glad I've never had a manager or work environment like that
Is this rly true? In Germany it is required to give notice at least 1 month in advance (after trial time) for both employer and employee. Also the employer has to give a positive work reference (tho they have certain hidden key words to warn other companys of possible problems). The employee can actually tell the employer to redo the work reference if they are not satisfied.
xEZ1x It depends on the state. Some states are at will employment- meaning that you can be fired for any reason or no reason and you can leave at any time for any reason or no reason. Common curtesy (and some company policies to consider for rehire) require 2+ weeks of notice. But legally, it is not required.
@@brittbrann5797 Yeah, keep getting reminded when I make comments like this that not all state labor laws are the same. keep forgetting that it's not always at will employment
I listen to these things hoping to get hints and tips cos I'm such a freaking doormat in the real world lol- but I'm starting to think it's mostly confidence and luck- luck as to where you live/work, who you live/work with, what kind of mood THEY'RE in that day, how much money or information/education/knowledge you have...but you can make your own luck sometimes...and you gain confidence along with experience...and it's always very very cool when the underdog wins. If all work is done and they have nothing more to keep busy at, what is wrong with letting the employees entertain themselves, which maintains higher morale and therefore reduces employee turnover (a common problem in most retail positions)?
@@BattleSpew I've worked retail. All work is never done. There are things to put back on shelves, surfaces to wipe, floors to sweep and mop. When the staff is focused on their phones they wait on someone else to do it. Customer get neglected, it's just not ok. That's what breaks are for.

I’m all for no phones in the workplace while you’re on the clock. If you’re not busy find something to do to assist your coworkers. Get off the phone unless you’re on break.
In the first story, the workers were wrong. She may be a karen but when she's ready to check out someone should have jumped to help her, regardless. This isn't even a matter of malicious compliance.

Karen is right in the first one female employees in my experience are useless not saying all of them but majority would rather stand around talk or be on their phones while the men do all the work I have seen this countless times. Also being on your phone around customers is unprofessional and gives off the impression that the place is badly managed I don't know a single cashier job that allowed you to use your phones in front of customers the entire story just doesn't make sense to me why would they allow you to use your phones in front of customers a job like that would have plenty of side duties for you to do you would not have time to be sitting around texting. It just doesn't make sense that every employee including the males and manager would to on board with this childish vengeance plan to piss off a customer someone would have been fired for that
@@ericpaul4575 Not if that's not what their contracts said. It doesn't do the store much good if there's been no customers in for an hour, then 6 come in more or less at once, and there are 0 of 3 cashiers available, because they are all elsewhere helping different departments. This store had decided that, rather than force them to stand uselessly at their stations, they were allowed to go and do something to make an otherwise mostly very boring shift, tolerable. Probably did wonders for employee satisfaction and retention, meaning they'd have less stock theft and staff turnover, both much more serious problems for retail than paying 3 very low pay packets which meant they'd have staff available on the occasions when there were several customers trying to pay at once.
The customer isn't always right, and customers act like they are lord and savior over employees. Just a dumb bitch looking for something to start shit over regardless of whether she was a paying customer or not.
I'd rather lose one shitty customer that only comes in on nights than anything else. Customers like to think they can do what they like and that one person not coming in anymore is some big deal, it isn't. The world isn't only there to serve that one person. And people that think that about themselves are clear narcissists. Stop defending shitty customers.
So it took a conspiracy to make the men unhelpful, but didn't take any prodding at all for the females to be less helpful than they were before. Not the lesson you were probably trying to make.

I'm confused about havint 3-4 cashiers when they only have about 3 customers per hour.
I'm completely on the side of the Karen tbh... Why should people be slouching about on their phones
the number of cashiers in a store is inversely proportional to the number of people needing to check out.
that story was complete nonsense
