Everything about this is peak musical theater. Cynthia Eviro and Ariana Grande have great voices. "Defying Gravity", gave me chills, especially that final note.
As a black girl who went to a majority white elementary and middle school, that dance scene broke me to tears in the theater. The amount of emotion is chef's kiss.
Same. I told my socials every melanated babe should watch it. Between the "history should stay in the past" bit and the dance scene... I bawled. There were a lot of moments that I felt were notably for us.
That moment wasn’t scripted! The actress was just fully emotional in her dance, then Ariana added the “it’s okay” and cheek touch. I think that’s partly what makes it so damn beautiful. It’s such a raw human experience that hits many of us so deeply.
I'm sure many people will relate to the scene when Elphaba was at the party😭 it was the saddest scene, even though Cynthia was just acting but it really looked real😭
Glinda doesn't wanna take risks, lose her status and new opportunities now that Elphaba is leaving. Elphaba was basically raised by animals, they're the only ones who showed her kindness. When she accidently showed her powers at the school, she broke that wall and we saw animals under it, so they likely founded that school and were students until they were pushed out by humans. People can look at this movie and apply it to politics, war and the news cycle where we're told who are the good and bad guys.
A lot of people are a bit overgenerous with themselves when blaming Glinda. Lots of people today fall for our governments propoganda and think "Wait, there must be some truth in it.". I don't think in actuality many people would jump at the chance to be underground anti-government agititator for a cause they don't fully understand.
the whole thing is about fascism, just straight up lmao it’s not subtle either, the symbolism with the lighting is really interesting. ppl made fun of some scenes looking overexposed, but it’s meant to be the ‘blinding’ light of aesthetics to cover for fascism. I mean, dancing through life is about fiyero telling the students to stop learning and ignore information and history (all while taking place in a library), and it’s probably the most egregious example of the lighting blinding the camera. the hat elphie wears from glinda entirely prevents her from the overhead light, visualizing that she can’t be blinded. if you notice, she’s the only one in the whole library that has 0 interest in dancing through life also, when elphie starts getting closer to glinda and fiyero, dr. dillamond gets fired and detained and they start teaching the students about putting animals in cages. she was temporarily ‘blinded’ by the aesthetics and allowed herself to get distracted (which is exactly what fascists want). coincidentally, she gets closer to them after her popular ‘transformation’.
@@kawaii33366 thats fine, but you saying that doesn’t erase the symbolism 🤷♀️ you find intentionally unappealing lighting unappealing, big shocker. everyone looks like shit bc they’re talking about being pieces of shit and why would anyone care that you don’t care about something, this is such a nothingburger comment 😭 good for you???
"Our paths did cross, at school" the yearning in her voice- I burst into tears immediately on the first watch. Every single person saying that Ariana didn't play Glinda with nuance or depth is NOT paying attention.
For those who know the whole story, you can just practically feel all the pain and regrets that had lead to this moment and how much she tries to hide how close she and Elphaba were.
Or people who think Glinda is the wicked one, I feel like they watched a completely different movie 😭. even if she was a mean girl at the beginning, you can tell she has more to her character.
Which I've never seen in any actress from the stage production versions I've seen. They tend to play it lightheartedly and with comedy, instead. Obviously, I haven't seen every actress that played Glinda onstage, but those I've seen didn't add that torned emotion to the performance in the opening, of someone who feels horrible, but is trying to keep up appearances.
yk some ppl dislike the ozdust scene & think it's just galinda trying to alleviate her own guilt BUT they forget that prior to this moment, galinda and elphaba disliked each other. and it’s different than how ppl hate elphaba for being green, with galinda, she and elphaba ‘hate’ each other because they’re jealous! they both, to some extent, want what the other has (magical talent vs acceptance) so when elphie thinks galinda is doing something nice, she’s able to forgive her fairly easily and put in a good word. and when galinda realizes that elphie did something nice for her, she realizes that she’s 1) misjudged her and 2) actually hurt her (since it’s when she sees her she realizes that elphaba *is* like her in a sense, and she DOES care what people think) and that adds so much to the ballroom scene
People who don’t get the emotion in that scene are just like the people in the crowd. Being a social reject, that scene made me cry and was very personal in a sense. Knowing that exposing myself, the awkward, “unwanted” parts of myself, to others is hard, yet there is hope. There is someone in the crowd who will love me

My non-musical best friend left the theatre with red eyes and I asked if she was okay (having sobbed multiple times during Wicked myself, I also never witnessed her in this state). She said she was upset over Elphaba’s fate because we know the wicked witch of the west dies at the end of the story 🫠
That Oz dance scene made me cry in the movie. It just felt so real and I know how it feels. After I watched it, I found out Cynthia crying and Arianna saying it’s okay and wiping away her tears actually happened during rehearsal. It wasn’t in the script and the director and everyone was hoping that Cynthia could cry again during the actual filming which now makes me even more emotional when watching the film or thinking back to the scene

You are not doing too much. I love seeing you get excited. If you werent I would be worried. As someone who fell in love with Wicked as the play to see it on the big screen with so much care and love put into it. Also, Cynthia and Ariana sang live while filming. I think the ballroom scene hits because of how much silence there was. I imagine a different director and choreographer might've added in dialogue or something else to really hammer in the point (too much), but they really let it breathe.
The "I listen to singers" Whitney clip playing 100 times throughout this reaction - I KNOW THAT'S RIGHT! 😂

I have seen this movie 5 times and I cry every single time I watch the ozdust ballroom scene and defying gravity- and just you wait for part 2. I just know they are gonna crush that and leave us all in a pile of tears. I've never been more excited to cry.
Don’t apologize I was boo boo crying at the ozdust ballroom scene in the theater 😭
Don't worry, I cried a whole river in the cinema when the ozdust ballroom scene happened, I was not prepared for it to be that moving!
Easily one of your best reactions! Such a joy to watch and the editing had me cackling multiple times!
The first time I watched Wicked I was a home with my mom. She fell asleep and I was left to witness this amazing masterpiece on my own. Chuuzu and I are the same lol I was shaking at the end too 😭😭
Ur so cute☺️ I cried three times during that ballroom scene. I can’t get over the fact that they sang live doing their stunts.
Cinematic is a great way to describe this film. I hope it gets all the awards
You are not doing too much. I love seeing you get excited. If you werent I would be worried. As someone who fell in love with Wicked as the play to see it on the big screen with so much care and love put into it. Also, Cynthia and Ariana sang live while filming. As a a nonbinary/black/ADHD/Autistic/Queer women I have always related to Elphie but Cynthia playing Elphie means so much more.
I love your reactions in general, but THIS ONE haha!! This film truly was perfection! I'm so glad you had such an amazing time watching it!
"Is that Anthony?! Where's Kate?!" You're one of my favorite reactors on RUclips.😅
Keep doing your videos @chuuzus . I was feeling really down today and this reaction really cheered me up a bit 🙏🏾
Cynthia singing live and performing her own stunts at the same time is just so ICONIC!
You can't trust two older people who are pretty. 😂😂😂😂
Watching ASAP before the copyright demons come through
I went in, just like you, knowing nothing and came out OBSESSED!!! Loved your reaction, thank you so much Chuu :)
I am so glad to watch this. You are my favorite new reactor right now! I hope everyone discovers you and falls in love as those of us that are already here did.
6:35 Honey give it to the gays to clock the tea 💅🏻..."is this you know who...mhmnn...side eye" 🤣
I saw this film in the theater yesterday and I’m glad I did. My god it was incredible. And I cried a couple of times. I’m gonna also watch your reaction on Patreon cuz I know you were cuttin up. Lol
I loved watching you. You’re so human with your reactions. Thanks for sharing your authenticity with us 🥀
SO MANY FUCKING EMOTIONS!!! I saw it in theatres! I was mouthing along to the songs because I grew up listening to the original soundtrack and I saw the musical before!
Just subscribed! Didn’t realize I wasn’t! I love your editing style with the meme inserts. And I just knew you’d GET IT
21:31 MIKA! I love him. Fun fact, He was actually asked to be the frontman of Queen before Adam Lambert. He felt it was impossible to live up to Freddie...BUT LIKE HE WOULDA DONE GREAT 😭
"did they eat them?" lmaoooo
This movie is just full body chills and tears beginning to end!!
I'm glad you loved it! But Chuu...you aint never seen the wizard of oz???
Omg omg I’m sat! I knew you’d have me cackling in the first minute and I surely cackled! Love you Chuu!
20:02 don’t apologize I cried in theatres and did know why
You're not reaching with the braids of Elphaba and every detail that you noticed about representation. This matters SO MUCH.
I think the ballroom scene hits because of how much silence there was. I imagine a different director and choreographer might've added in dialogue or something else to really hammer in the point (too much), but they really let it breathe.
Love this reaction Chuu. I was crying a lot too Defying Gravity is my song😭
Now THIS is a reaction 👏🏾
These reactions are valid because the hype is REAL. It's SO GOOD AND CYNTHIA AND ARIANA. DESERVE THAT OSCAR NOMINATION ( and win 🙂↕️💅🏿)
Happy New Year Chuuzus! You never disappoint. I enjoyed my watch
Just leaving a comment for engagement ❤ love your reactions
