  • Anguish is a romantic painting by August Friedrich Schenck dating from 1878. It depicts a distraught mother sheep standing over the dead body of her lamb, surrounded by a group of crows. Perhaps Schenck's most famous painting, it has been in the possession of the National Gallery of Victoria, in Melbourne, Australia, since 1880.
