Rachel I like the way your Dad steps in behind the scenes when you come to a tough spot I know sometimes four to six hands works better than two thanks for keeping old farming machines from the scrap yard I like it when someone comes up to me and says what the heck is that I tell them with out this machinery we wouldn’t be where we are today thanks for you and your Dad for keeping it going or running as good or better than new enjoy your channel
Thsnks Rachel! It is good to know that parts are available for the WICO mags. I run pre 1970 Gravely tractors that use either WICO or Fairbanks Morse single plug mags,. The WICO mag for the Gravely s nearly identical to the one you rebuilt on the Deere. Mine has the stop button like you installed. A cautionary user tip. If you are shutting down the engine using the button hold it in firmly until the engine comes to a complete stop. I released the button once or twice when the engine was still spinning. The exhaust manifold and muffler were full of unburned fuel and air. When I released the button the spark plug fired again and nearly blew the muffler apart. The stop button is a great idea it just has to be used right.
I see that more frequently when people don't idle down. But they are also the owners that don't have that situational awareness to make sure spark remains grounded until the engine fully stops because they are impatient... because the engine was not at idle and takes longer to stop rotating.
Nice video. I raised two girls we built a Camaro and learned how to do upholstery. But one’s a farm wife and the other is a nurse. So it’s just me in the shop now. Enjoy your time with each other as much as you can. I will have to check out your parts website. Always looking for parts. WD 45 John Deere 2020 case 580 C and my new baby Massey Ferguson GC 1725 :-) I worked for Ford for many years now I grow vegetables :-)
I like this cuz she knows what she’s doing!!! Wondering if there’s a video about removing old spark plug wires? I have a vintage Fairbanks Morse magneto and need to replace the wires. The cap is in excellent condition so if I can just free up the spark plugs and replace only that I’d be happy!! 😄
WICO mags are sure used in a variety of products. I just got done re-doing a Homelite XL-12 chainsaw, and it had a WICO mag setup as well. The Witherbee Igniter Company.
Nice what we see from a terrible job knowing everything about mechanics,, Delco is an accurate budget for the work of the engine. You are amazing, I salute you
Thanks, great video. I have a WICO Model XH1343 Serial 594837. It’s on a Wisconsin 4 Cyl. I have a very difficult time trying to start it. Crank start. It will “pop” just enough to tease you to keep trying! I was talked into converting to a chip electronic ignition. I installed that, but NO significant change. I finally got it to run after much persistence. Split wood for 3hrs. Next day wouldn’t start. I installed 4ea in line spark plug testers, one for each plug. I finally got it to start again and am only getting spark to the left two cylinders. Runs great though. Plugs are new and gapped per the manual. Assuming plug wires/cap connections, I swapped to different plug wires and cleaned the cap and rotor, etc. After finally getting it started the same results. Only the left two cylinders are firing! Any suggestions? Do you sell a WICO CAP for this 4 cylinder magneto? I’m waiting on another condenser to arrive and will go back to the original magneto set up. Perhaps the “chip” only runs two plugs?
Really appreciate the content. I'm have some trouble with a Massey Ferguson 35. Getting oil in one spark plug and oil in the coolant. I can't find any good information here. I'm guessing it's the head gasket? What else could be the cause? It runs excellent aside from the leaking issue.
Ring at quail spring into that keeper is a lot like what I did for about 20 years in clock repair putting big powerful springs into spring barrels by hand. They also make a special tool for putting springs into spring barrels but we never use them. The springs that we hand wound into spring barrels were about ¾ in wide and about 4-6 ft long.
I need help!!.. I have looked and looked and can not find a video of how you actually get the snap ring off to replace the dogs. can you please do one?
im trying to put the magneto impulse coil spring back together in my dads 41 model LA. The backside where the inner washer with the groove to hold the end of the spring looks different from this. Its a Wico model X (XH-909) The washer has mulpile grooves around the outer edge. I had to take off the gear so I could spin it up with a drill to see if I had spark. And I did have spark, but nothing going out to the plugs. Cap.rotor btw my rotor only has one arm on it) points & condenser are all new. Still no spark. Next up is wires...I hope i can make some progress!
when U set the points there should be a slight drag w the feeler gauge and then tighten screws also check the magneto cap 4 cracks they loose current like that they should be replaced w a new magneto cap sometimes U can clean the old points and reuse them if not if they look bad replace w new points 😊😊OMG 11 29 2O23
What father wouldn’t be proud as hell to have Rachel as a daughter. I just wish she was an extended member of my family that I could arm twist into working on my tractors….after all isn’t that what relatives are for????
I rebuild a mag when I was a kid. The engine was a Koehler. I don't remember what the implement was. When I got it working, the spark kicked me on my butt.
I love your tractor videos, not to be nit picking but at 9:20 in the video you performed a procedure that may not be acceptable. When driving that bearing you must use a socket or tool that interfaces the OUTER Bearing carrier so as to not damage the race. What I saw was a tool hammering on the inner race. Respectfully as Always, Dennis KV4WM, A US Navy Nuclear Submarine Veteran and Amateur Radio Operator . . . 73
Rachael - I love your videos. Most times your procedures are spot on, but at time stamp 9:14 you are pounding on the inner race of that bearing to seat the outer race. That will ruin the bearing.
I wish that you had slowed down just a tad. You didn't really show the lugs and how to determine what are short or long. Otherwise it was fine. Thanks.
When hammering metal on metal, like driving out the bushing with the socket and hammer, you should be wearing safety glasses. Actually wouldn't hurt to have them on the whole time. Would not want to see you get hurt! Keep up the good work!
Good instructions, but.... Alway, when installing bearing, apply the force to the race with the contact surface, never ever the opposite side as this can damage the balls and races!
Appreciate the quality content you and your father put out. Keep up the good work and keep smiling!
Love your videos Rachel you're smart young lady !! Keep up the good work 👍

Rachel, thank you for sharing your wonderful knowledge. I currently own a restored 1951 JD Model B and will acquire a 1951 Model A in a few weeks.

@@ShainAndrews Yes, very true.
Long ago I would do something similar with my car, on purpose though!
Thank you, Thank You, Thank you. I was able to solve my issue with my tractor thanks to you.
Really appreciate this video, I am currently rebuilding a Wico xh1042 magneto for my 47 B
Great video! You covered a lot of material in a very short time; it was very informative! Nice Work!!

Could you do a video on installing the magneto on John Deere LA. It doesn't have the lugs, it has gear there instead. THANK you.
Do you have any videos where you work on international? I have a 354
Love all the informative videos 👍🇺🇸 also do you have a tutorial on a 12v conversion on a farmall cub? If you do maybe I overlooked it.

Have '49 and '51 Ford 8n's. Wish I could find ROPS for them.
as a welder mfg i have built about 7, and hundreds for other equipment.. there know big deal .. fun builds, far better then any factory junk
My magneto works I need a wipac two pole distributor cap
Awesome 👌
I need one for my howard gem
Tests gap with the feeler gauge:
"ooh! That feels perfect!"
And that's why they call it a 'feeler' gauge 😃
The wico x didn't need a stop button on grandpas G. Just had to throttle all the way back and it would shut off.
😍
Now I just need to get a 2cyl Deere before I am out of time🤣!
God bless country girls

Those were bushings not bearings..the driver she used was acceptable
This is called paying for your collage education, you not only get to replace the bearing. you can also damage the shaft and end up replacing it.
@@PapaJ5667 At time mark 9:14 she is clearly pounding the bearing in using a punch on the inner race to seat the outer race. This is a no-no.

Why do u call it magito when it has contact breaker points and condesor

Never press/drive a bearing in by the center. You need to press it by the outside rim of the bearing.
9:20
Ummmm it was a bushing ...not a bearing ...she done it right
@@PapaJ5667 check at 9:17. Ummmm. That's a bearing she's driving in by the center.
Do you ever break a tractor 🚜.
Throttle is not a clumsy way to shut an engine down ask any aircraft mechanic.
where are girls like you in real wife? never seen one of them 🙂👍👍
