Takeover was a moment. I thought Nas was done when this dropped until Ether came out. And yes Jay put up pictures of Prodigy on the screen during Summer Jam. It wasn't a Ballerina outfit lol, but it was him as a little kid dressed like Michael Jackson. He got the pictures from Ashanti because she went to dance school Prodigy's grandmother owned.
Everyone believed Nas' career was over, except for those who witnessed his battles in Queens, NY, during his early years. Nas showed no fear toward anyone, except for the legendary Roxanne Shanté, who threatened to kick his little *** if he didn't focus on organizing his rhyme book. The lesson from this story is that Jay-Z never intimidated Nas, and anyone from the Queens bridge Project can attest to the fact that he was more afraid of a girl than Jay-Z. LOL By the way, everyone was terrified of Roxanne; it was not just Nas. LOL
Me being a nas fan when this came out it was like watching your big brother get beat up by the neighborhood bully. Then when nas came back with the stillmatic freestyle over the paid in full beat I was like ohh no my dude lost. The whole summer I had to hear all my friends that were jay-z fans pop 💩I was like damn. And I told them all trust when nas comes back it’s gone be disgusting they all laughed at me. Then on December 4th when that ether dropped omg I was like yeah I told y’all ninjas game over.😂😂😂😂😂😂
People have overblown Ether for years and just repeat what other people feel instead of judging it neutrally, no bias. It was ok. I think it was the fact that people weren’t used to Nas talking like that. People just don’t like Jay, Nas is the people’s champ. Ether imo was never all that, so for people to act like Jay got destroyed is a bit much. I think it was a good battle but nobody ran away with it.
i agree. I think Jay gets alot of hate jus bc he was was on top for so long. We all know how the build up of someone is fun but the down fall is where the peoples hearts are at. Its this behavior, imo why male hip hop is in on life support. Old rappers sell more bc the love was real, now its just hate. The real win was black republican. To hear these two together for the first time NEEEEVER gets discussed, nor had as much impact. Just to prove my point.
3:14 He's being dramatic...on Summer Jam, an annual concert held in the New York/Jersey area Jay put up a picture of Prodigy from Mobb Deep dressed as Michael Jackson. Prodigy's Grandma owned a dance studio and she taught dance to children. Ashanti took lessons from her. Apparently Ashanti gave a program for a show the kids performed at to Jay. The cover of the program had the young Prodigy from Mobb Deep dressed as Michael Jackson.
You have to do NaS: LAST REAL NI&$A ALIVE ( NaS explains the beef with him & JAY-Z ) DESTROY & REBUILD ( PRODIGY, NATURE, CORMEGA, JAY-Z diss track ) 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🐐
You missed the breakdown. Nas "Soned" what was supposed to be the greatest rapper in the world at the time. It was deeper than that. Jay had people fooled until Nas had to remind him. Don't forget I helped raise you, gave you flows, inspired your path. Yeah Jay was riding high until Nas put him in his place. Jay about cried. The approach was scientific. Down to dropping Ether on Jay's birthday.
@@purposepassionandlovetv863Nas is no doubt top 5 DOA but the majority of any hip hop head or hip hop list by any magazine/website has Hov as the goat? Make it make sense.
i agree my guy. Ima lil older and remember the context not to mention the amount of time between songs. Takeover was it, period. I love Nas as well, Illmatic AT THE TIME was Nas's biggest album and that dropped back early 90s. His Esco phase wasnt the same. So By late 90s, Nas wasnt in the same space. Ether was dope af but Jay spit facts, Nas spit opinion. A very strongly shared one by the time the song came out. BC Jay was winning so much, for so long resentment had festered through out hip hop. 2 Great songs, BOTH timed perfectly for cultural impact but the W would go to Jay imo
The fact that Jay went at Nas and Prodigy on his ambition to be the king of NY, should tell you how highly Prodigy was rated at that time
Rip Prodigy!
This is a Mobb Deep diss. He added the Nas verse when Nas “Stillmatic” freestyle came out.
Jay Z came at Nas while Nas mom was dying of cancer . We all know what happen after he buried her .
he got ethered to oblivion
Yeah, he buried Jay

I still love this track cause he goes at so many people, ether is ether but this is a m great track too.
@@Chrisr2223he only go at nas and mobb deep
@MicSk28
Not true it’s been confirmed the whole verse about bark up the tree was about DMX
@@Chrisr2223 Source. Cause you the only one I ever seen say that.
@@Chrisr2223stop reaching, if he went at X then it would be known but X couldn’t hang with any of these monsters in hip hop.
He put the ballerina pics on the big screen at 2001 summerjam
Was it a ballerina picture or a Micheal Jackson impression picture ?
Dressed as MJ. Jay was being dramatic for the song.

I don’t think they were terrified it’s a hood thing ; she like the big sister mother figure they just looked up to her & respected her
@MultiBillionHeir Yes, it's definitely out of respect and admiration. However, she was still feared as an artist
This is one of my favourite Kanye productions
He talking about Dead Presidents when he said you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song
The Blueprint went Platinum in its first week (1 million)

Its crazy Jay went from saying "when we first heard Nas we all wanted to quit rapping", to think he better than Nas 😂
I'm a Nas fan. I don't have a Jay-z song on my playlist but to this day I still feel this was better than ether. I hated ether. I still hate ether lol

You gotta run it back and few seconds when you pause please.
Nah Ether Trump's all Jay Z's efforts
React to Blueprint 2 if you haven't. Jay Z's best diss to Nas.

Takeover is hard but ether destroyed Roc a Fella
The ballerina picture is real Prodigy of Mobb Deep his grandmother had a dance studio he talked ballet
Not to mention Jay posted it on the summer jam screen when he performed this song.
"Two of them shits was doo" (i am..., Nastradamus)
"One was ehhh...(It Was Written) the other was Illmatic
While lyrical it was written was better than jay’s second album
The song “Blueprint 2” should have been the reply to Ether. Listen 2 that next
It still wouldn’t have won. Jays best nas diss was takeover .. everything else he’s just swinging for a homerun & striking out.
Listen to The Last Real Nigga Alive by Nas on the God Son album
OMG you stopped the dam video more than you listened. Every 5 seconds you stopping asking questions SMDH
They have to do that or they can get in trouble for copyright infringement
@@jomarcoliverman4971 I had no idea, that’s whack
The song is Dead Presidents
Imagine Z trying to press Em.
Em would burry Jay with one line. And you know Em’s got a full clip w/ one in the chamber, just waiting for Jay to step.

NaS:
