      BTW dude I'm pretty sure orphie is a chimera as she has a snake tail the ram head and almost cat like movements correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I think when I see her hinting that the original Orpheus was a chimera thiren

    • @northernstar39
      @northernstar39 5 months ago +131

      @marquelmorris-astorga9404 Which would open up two possibilites
      1. Mythical creatures can be used as a base to create a Thiren character off of.
      2. Orphie's nature as a *clone* may have some Jurrassic Park/World kind of thing going on, where multiple DNA sources were used to fill in the blanks, making little Orphie a literal chimeric hybrid.

    Just as a note, not all clothes have thiren tail holes, it's particular brands. This implies that many humans follow thiren fashion.

    • @silverhawkscape2677
      @silverhawkscape2677 5 months ago +267

      It's more like they sell to Both and having those Tail holes solves having to make two separate designs.

      @astolfostrife4493 5 months ago +84

      @silverhawkscape2677i mean, its not like they are segregated, humans can just bought thiren clothes and thirens human clothes, it wouldnt make sense to them not being able to yk

    • @Nachtfalke-NSKR
      @Nachtfalke-NSKR 5 months ago +8

      Or it could be pants stolen from their partners that are a Thiren.

    • @Nine-333
      @Nine-333 5 months ago +27

      @Nachtfalke-NSKR Sharing clothes with friends or partners makes sense but what about celebrities?
      What if a thiren sports star releases a line of clothing for thirens? Human fans will still want to buy it!
      Would they make separate versions of Jordans for both paws and feet? Even though most thirens with paws walk barefoot some might want footwear for fashion or work site protection...
      Belobog bears don't wear boots in the game but maybe it's just because making protective work boots of high quality would be too expensive given that it's a lot of material and they wear out quickly!
      It's strange that they don't at least strap metal sheets over their toes or something, are their feet more durable than ours? Fur and thick loose skin must help a little but a mallet is still a mallet!
      Can monkey related thirens like Bellum use their feet as hands? That would make them extremely useful in construction too!
      I need to study thiren feet now and it's not even for the reason you'd think 😳

    • @egoheals
      @egoheals 5 months ago +40

      I actually just thought about this today as well, so earlier I went around looking at an embarrassingly high number of NPC and Agent pants to see how many of them could accommodate Thiren tails, and I noticed that:
      - Most of the clothes on senior citizens did not have any thiren tail holes
      - A large number of the whole-body dresses (I dunno the correct term) don't have thiren tail holes
      - The only human agents whose outfits could *maybe* support Thiren tails are Trigger, Evelyn, and Vivian. Though, Trigger's zipper might cause some issues for most Thiren tails, lol.
      - None of the Proxy outfits clearly indicate accommodation for Thiren tails.

    About Miyabi, the fact that she and her relatives don't have tails is related to a curse from her sword, which is incidentally called "Tailless".

      @E1212-p4j 3 months ago +17

      @rednave4489 its not clear whether the swordmaster had a tail or not, as their only available art has them standing among a bunch of flowing banners, it is possible due to her silhouette being slightly rounded at the back, but not confirmed, its not really even confirmed if they gave it up for the sword or if the curse is just named because of how they look

    With Alice, her Rabbit traits are her skittish nature (rabbits are usually notably skittish and panicky creatures), and her VERY high pitched scream (spooked or hurt rabbits SCREAM very loudly and shrilly)

  • @techstarboy
    @techstarboy 5 months ago +978

    For Alice, Rabbits get startled very easily and tend to stomp their feet when they are angry, which we can see her do a lot.

      Going "hmpf" and stomping one's foot is also just a princess thing to do.

    4:38 In her agent story, it's canonical that Nekomata only talks like that to act cute. There's a scene where she watches herself talk only to comment that she's cringing watching herself talk like that. Odds are, it's likely the reason she acts the way she does too, just to look cute

    18:31 It's possible that Mors could be a Coyote or Jackal thiren considering the thinner build, taller ears, and more cutthroat and opportunistic nature. Plus it would be quite fitting for the desert theming of the Outer Ring, as coyotes and jackals are often found in and associated with desert environments.

    I've recently gotten it into my head that Koleda might be a super-low spectrum bear thieren. She is the only other person we've seen (aside from Ellen Joe) who has a mouth full of fangs, even if bears themselves have fangs and molars. She also wears a hair band with little metal bear ears and Fairy theorizes that her height was stunted because of prolonged ether exposure.
    With bear thierens supposedly being good for Hollow work because of a super high ether aptitude, Koleda being effected enough for it to stunt her growth without killing would have to be an incredibly high threshold that hasn't been seen much before. Belobog Industries employs a lot of bear thierens and you yourself mentioned that bears stick together to avoid the stereotyping and discrimination that comes with being one. Koleda herself, or her father, could have prioritized hiring them because they also were one.
    Finally, her name, Koleda Belobog, is an incredibly Slavic one (She's named for Slavic Sun god in Koliada and a Slavic Light god in Belobog) and bear worship is a hallmark of early Slavic paganism.

    22:03 well male Orangutans are very loud animals (the cheek flanges and throat pouches help amplify sounds) and are very confrontational with each other, though 90% of the time it's yells and bluffs to scare each other off. It's possible that Bellum's exaggerated posturing and in-your-face personality might be a reference to this.

    ZZZs Thirens while not deeply researched, actually are shown to have care in either actual behaviour or cultural stereotypes. Instead of you know, having traits just because.

    It's worth mentioning that Nekomata's tails are cybernetic - you can even see logos on them. Since she already had the prosthetics when she met the Red Fang Gang, as seen in her teaser, there's no telling if she originally had a real tail (or tails) and lost it somehow, or if she was born without a tail like the Hoshimis and got them for vanity reasons.

      Nekomata and Ellen are also interesting in how thirens see their traits, neko added prosthetic tails to add more to her thiren image meanwhile Ellen comments about cirurgically removing her tail since she finds it a hassle.

    • @GoncaloDCa
      @GoncaloDCa 5 months ago +9

      There's also the possibility that nekomata might not be a cat thiren at all since expect her ears her other animal parts are cybernetics or covered and at one point she panicks a bit and loses her speech quirk (like the nya's and stuff) which implies she's probably faking the whole cat personality thing

    • @pokeyscorpion8224
      @pokeyscorpion8224 5 months ago +53

      @GoncaloDCa Whether or not her tails are mechanical, she's definitely a cat thiren. Most likely the cutesy persona was originally a way to get people to drop their guard so she could pickpocket them, and it eventually just became habit

    • @pokeyscorpion8224
      @pokeyscorpion8224 5 months ago +33

      Given her rough upbringing, it's more likely that she lost her original tail(s) and got a pair of cybernetic ones later on

      @GoncaloDCa 5 months ago

      @pokeyscorpion8224Well the thing is we literally can't prove it and since there's moments in the game raising doubts it's a fair thing to question, if she's ever focused on again there's just as many chances that she's revealed to be a dog or a fox to whom something happened and got raised by cats at one point

    With her ram horns and and a tail that spits methaphorical venom with her words, to me, Orphie fits the theme of a "chimera" more than anything. You could even stretch the definition of a mane with her big red hair. It also fits the themes of her backstory with her being made in a lab.

    • @acedias12

      it should also be noted that her horns and tail are clearly artifical, not natural. She is absolutely meant to be a Chimera.

    • @solosteveo2696
      @solosteveo2696 5 months ago +21

      @1Pandakingno the horns are definitely real, just with metal attachments. You can check them out on the scene where Orphie talks about being a clone. She’s definitely in my head canon a dragon chimera but with thiren traits that can be up to interpretation. Which I believe like the original commenter says suits the chimera definition. (P.S after looking at that shot a little more I did notice the metal attachments being there on the right horn but not so much on the left oddly.)

    • @itsdantaylor
      @itsdantaylor 5 months ago +33

      She does but It could also be that Orphie was say, a Goat Thiren, and they attached Magus to her? Magus being the 'Serpent' to Orphies 'goat' becoming a chimera. Or she could actually be a 'Chimera Thiren' and that would be different than a goat thiren. IDK. They do have 'oni' ' like Sokako and seeming Master Chop. Are those considered Thiren? Is it possible there are more 'varied types of Thiren' than just animals?

    Getting to play Idhari in the new update, you realize in her idle animation her tentacles act on their own somewhat. They wrap around her leg, where she will gently tap the tentacles to release her. This ties to actual octopus tentacles having mini-brains of their own, and a degree of autonomy.

    I'm pretty sure Hugo and Vivian have those features because there is a tiny bit of thiren (bat?) somewhere in their genes; it's been hundreds of years at the very minimum since thiren exists, so surely there exists people that have slight and barely present features, kinda like someone being the only ginger in their family because 4 generations ago there was one singular recessive gene that held on until them.

    Well Nangong has thrown another wrench in the spanner. In her pre-release media there's a line that specifically calls her a thiren. She has no animal features however, but notably her halo is real. It's not just a fashion accessory. The huge scar on her back and the fact her wings look surgically attached also implies she likely had real wings at one point. In other words: she's a literal angel thiren.

    I believe that Ju Fufu's name is a play on the literal phrase of "Orange Tiger" in Mandarin, 橘虎虎.
    The general area where the Yunkui Summit is located in is inspired by Cantonese culture. Many southern Chinese folks can't clearly distinguish the pronunciation of Hu (虎, tiger) and Fu (福, fortune) in Mandarin, so 橘虎虎 (Ju Huhu, Orange Tiger) would sound about the same as 橘福福 (Ju Fufu), while the latter is a better name (but sounds exactly like calling her an orange tiger.)

    I want to mention this because my friend noticed it and I confirmed it in game…
    When in public areas primarily Sixth Street and Lumina Square (IDK about anywhere else)
    You can see an unnamed Female NPC (They are Never Named or talked to at least too my knowledge) that has a Black Tail with an upside down Heart at the end of it.
    This immediately made me think of how Demons in some media are depicted with tails like this which obviously is VERY CONCERNING if “Demon Thirens” exist, but we never talk to the NPC and they are never mentioned in game and I forgot if the NPC had Horns.
    But I thought it was worth mentioning that this Rabbit Hole goes MUCH DEEPER than any of us are ready for and I don’t think we’ll ever get a truly satisfying answer to what the deal with Thirens is.
    But that’s what I love about it, it allows the community to come up with their own ideas.

I’ve heard a couple sources say the tail might be organic, and just covered in an exo-skeleton thing to hold up magus’ weight, but if it isn’t, I’m not sure having a mechanical tail would have any sway on what kind of thiren she is. Chimera thing is still super cool tho, so will probably be personally sticking with that in the future.

    It's a pretty thorough look at the Thirens, though it did miss one. Cairn, the high-spectrum puppy and worker at the pet store in Failume Heights. Though we can't really interact with him (her?), the design suggests that the canines of the Thiren species have as broad a spectrum as the felines, if not more. Cairn to me seems like a Japanese Chin, which means there's a high probability that toy breeds can have a similar "munchkin" appearance like our rabbit girl Zhao. We don't know how old Zhao is directly but due to her mannerisms, life experience and place in TOPS hierarchy, it's possible she's in her late 20s, early 30s perhaps. Cairn too could possibly be older than he looks but until there's an event that features him, it's mostly speculation.

      Something else I noticed - TOPS employees are almost entirely human. Given the ratio of thirens in normal society, that seems odd, and to me implies a preference towards pure humans. The corporate overlords being quietly racist is an interesting reflection of quiet discrimination in the real world.

    Ye Shunguang may be a fox thiren via kitsune that are found at Japanese shrines. Her ears are long so she puts them downwards to match her hairstyle. You can see this in-game by examining her two hair pieces more closely. She can't be a horse, horses have more skinnier tails, this also goes for dogs and squirrels. Her tail highly represents that of a fox, more specifically that of the folklore 9-tailed fox. Though her tail isn't shown to have the depth and details of nine combined tails. Just a theory.

  • @ericdraco9566

    Since there's a Nekomata, a Japanese mythical creature, among the Thirens, it's likely that Miyabi is not just an ordinary fox, but a fox spirit Thiren.
    Given the possibility of mythical creatures among the Thirens, a strong candidate for Ye Shunguang's species is the 耳鼠 (er shu), a creature from the Classic of Mountains and Seas, an ancient Chinese text that compiles mythical geography and creatures. The 耳鼠, roughly translated as "ear rat," is described in the ancient texts as "an animal with the body of a moose and the head of a rabbit."
    If you look up illustrations of the 耳鼠 online, you'll see it resembles a brown bunny with large ears and a long, fluffy tail-features that actually seem to align with the Ye siblings' appearance.

    4:47 The reason she probably acts more like a cat than Pulchra is probably because Nekomata fakes it. If I remember correctly, very early in the story before she even joins the Cunning Hares, she actually slips and says (in a more normal-sounding voice) she doesn't like putting on a cutesy voice and adding meows before correcting herself and going back to her fake voice. This means we can assume she probably fakes other things to be more cat-like, meaning Pulchra is a more reliable source of cat thiren information.
    If I had to guess, if Nekomata didn't fake being more cat-like, she'd probably be kinda like Seth, just a regular person minus the cat bits and the communication/closeness with cats, but that seems to just be a thing with thirens based on Lycaon's trust event. Although it seems that connection with animals might scale with thiren-ness since Lycaon is good with cats and dogs while Nekomata is only seen with cats. And even if Nekomata's connection with cats seems stronger than Lycaon's connection with animals in general, based off the dialogue in said trust event, Lycaon doesn't really care about his connection with animals and ignores it while Nekomata may have kindled that connection with cats. Granted (to my knowledge), we only have two thirens reference this bond so it could be that only some thirens have it but it is something I find rather interesting.
    Sidenote: While writing this, I thought Nekomata probably didn't fake liking mackerel, but Pulchra actually says in one of her trust events that cat thirens generally don't like greasy food. I know not all mackerel is greasy, but Nekomata could be lying about liking canned mackerel but IDK if she's ever said she likes the canned stuff. Also Nekomata could be weird or Pulchra made an over generalization in her trust event but I thought it was worth mentioning.
    Anyways sorry this comment got really long I just started rambling.

    10:58 she does... She's easily scared of or startled by everything like a rabbit
    Also Zhao is a bit confusing for me because I have never been able to look properly at her tail, more than bunny she looks like a Chinchilla for me.

    Something I've notice about Thirens-
    They are tougher than humans but when they do get badly injured, healing is much more problematic.
    Examples
    Jane and Nekomata have prosthetic tails. Ben is permanently blind in his scarred eye in addition to needing corrective lenses for his good eye.
    Another fun note about Ellen- she states that Shark Thiren tails don't stop growing even after reaching full maturity which is why she only has candy instead of real food when she runs out of energy because she fears her tail getting so big she'll have to let it drag on the ground

    Manato is actually called a "broad-chested dog thiren" in one of the events, if I recall. Lycaon has a good hold of his composure for the most part, but he can only partially stifle his tail wagging when he's happy. Since we don't know exactly how thiren genetics work, it's possible Miyabi's family has to mix in people from the outside if they are trying to avoid beast thiren children... though both her parents looking like her doesn't help that speculation.

    Yidhari's parents were shown off in the new event. Interestingly, her parents both have tentacles, but not in the same place as Yidhari, their tentacles are their hair, similar top octolings from Splatoon. They probably wanted Yihari to have these tentacles but opted to place them as "tails" to maybe avoid the big N from getting angry like another chinese game that has characters that look vaguely similar to another Nintendo game.

    In some in game text you can find evidence that the boars actually aid Lucy with the gangs paperwork... to varying degrees of helpfulness, i believe that all three boars are actually more intelligent that the rest of the gang, lol.

    Manato is believed to be based on the Komainu, mythical Lion-dogs, most well known for the guardian statues commonly seen in Shinto Shrines.
    I might propose Mors as a Dingo or Coyote Thiren due to his build and both those canine subspecies being present in arid/semiarid environments, like the Outer Ring.
    I’ve also seen Pulchra being theorized as specifically a Sand Cat, again due to their adaptations for desert environments.

    I think Orpheus, Hugo and Vivian are all mythical creatures like the Onii Soukaku. Hugo would be a vampire as you eluded to… even though it wasn’t concretely confirmed in game they suggested it very strongly. Vivian would be a banshee like her name suggests, she also has abilities consistent with banshee lore. Lastly Orpheus would be a play on a technologically modified chimera, snake tail, goat horns and there might be some lion attributes hidden in there too lol but ya

    I just ran into a Trust Event where Seth was being surrounded by a trio of cats all meowing at him because he saved one of them. So he's got that 'feline trait' in common with Nekomata, at least. Seem to recall it being mentioned that he's often surrounded by cats, just doesn't find it as charming or helpful as Nekomata does. Also, slight correction, Nekomata isn't _too_ into fish; she even yells at someone for assuming she'd want a fish dinner just because she's a cat Thiren. (Though I seem to recall she takes it anyway, because she also grew up broke and isn't about to turn away food!)

  • @marooneer8470

    I lowkey think the environment thirens grow up in will determine how high or low on the spectrum they turn out to be. Like the more urban, the lower and the more rural, higher. Also depends on species.

  • @dungeon3146

    4:59 Nekomata actually refers to a cat Yokai (a kind of spiritual entity) with two tails mentioned in many Japanese folklores. Characters like Kirara from Genshin and Kikyou from Blue Archive are also Nekomata characters!
