A very preceptive manager at Dr. . Barnardo's Alison was understanding up to a point but ultimately Fred's celebrity status and the intrusion of the TV cost him his marriage. In retrospect all this has very sad repercussions.
I think it could have been handled with a bit of compromise. She could have done something she wanted, and let him carry on with his stuff. She was loyal but should have demanded some freedom if he was going to demand to carry on with his work all the time. She probably wanted him to engage more in the children. I also noticed she did a bit of the jobs for him, answering the phones and such. He could have hired a call assistant for him to answer his phone, and also hire some cleaning help for his house, so that Alison wouldn't have to do that all the time. Like he says: Difficult.

Great guy sadly missed. I met him on several occasions. Sad loss to his trade family and a national treasure too.
