Thank you, Brian, I thoroughly enjoyed watching that. As you suggested, I do remember some of the then contemporary cars, but I might add, only as a child passenger. Simpler times for a simpler way of life, and I suspect all the better for it.
How fantastic that this film has surfaced after so many years. As a life-long Horley resident I'm fascinated to see how much of the area from that period can still be seen today.
Fascinating document Brian. It is amazing how well “dressed” people were back then for a time of austerity and rationing 🤔 No disposable fashion, just make do an mend 😁Also the uniformity of people then, old and young dressed the same, suit, white shirt, tie and cloth cap 😎 I would say the biggest difference with today is seeing people in “service uniform” , with the much smaller armed forces of today. But it was good to see the English 🏴 practice their archery just in case those damb “frechies” 🇫🇷 cause any trouble 😱😂😂😂😂 Great show, hope your convalescence is proceeding well 🤞🏻Best wishes from County Wicklow ☘️
Hi Paul, thank you. It was quite a find when my friend Don said he had this film. It took a long time to make it compatible with digital media. I did a Zoom presentation to the local history society on Thursday evening, sharing my screen with around 50 people - a bit nerve racking 😱. Amazing snapshots of life almost 70 years ago. I’ve used the Veteran Car Run section to share with the current event organisers to send a link to those who now own the vehicles
Great film but the veteran car run dates must be out as there are Minis and Ford Anglias in shot and they weren't made until 1959 so this part must be a bit later than the title.
Thank you for your feedback. You're absolutely right - I hadn't spotted them, but your eyesight is better than mine! I will need to amend the titles of this film and a further film of the VCR.
