It’s been almost a year since Samsung announced the Galaxy Ring, and it’s been a bit of a drip-drip-drip of information since then. Finally, we’ve got all the details. I’m just going to go with bullet-points, because everyone prefers that anyways.
- Price is $399USD, no subscription fee at all
- Pre-order from today, delivery July 19th
- Initial availability seems to be US only, as I can’t seem to find it in other countries
- Ring sizing from 5 to 13, there’s a free plastic ring sizing kit (just like other smart rings), or you can order a specific size
- Battery claim is up top 7 days for largest rings, 6 days for smallest rings (due to different battery sizes internally)
- Ring material is a titanium outer case
- Charging case is like a pair of headphones, fully enclosed for charging while travelling
- Has core data metrics including heart rate, sleep activity, heart rate variability
- Mixed messaging on whether it requires a Samsung phone. Official site said no, but media briefings said yes. Either way, will require at least an Android phone, no support for iOS for current Samsung Health app (the app needed).
- If worn with a Samsung Galaxy watch, it’ll do sensor data fusion within the Samsung Health app to pick the most accurate data to consolidate
- Has FindMyRing feature, dependent on Samsung Find, which is only on Samsung phones
- Samsung Galaxy Ring WILL NOT get new Sleep Apnea detection feature, only watches
You’ll note there are three different colors to choose from, and again, that free sizing kit is available to help you ensure the correct size - since the ring has small sensor bumps on the inside, it may not match your normal ring size.
Next up there’s the new Galaxy Watch Ultra. As a general rule of thumb, one can look to the Apple Watch Ultra and say “Does the Apple Watch Ultra have this?” And if the answer is ‘Yes’, then so will the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra. Of course, one should remember that both companies routinely copy features from each other. And there are plenty of features (like FTP calculations) that Apple has borrowed from the rest of the endurance sports industry. That’s sorta the name of the game here.
Nonetheless, it’s dive into the big ticket items on the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra hardware:
- Priced at $649USD, 699EUR
- Comes in one 47mm size, but three different titanium colors, with sapphire glass
- Only available in an LTE edition
- Waterproof spec is 10ATM/100m, including rated at ISO22810, however, is only rated at 10m at 100M.
- Samsung says you can dive with it, but that specific ISO reg isn’t used for diving watches…
- Added dual-frequency/multiband GNSS
- Increased display to 3,000 nits
- Added 85db emergency siren/alarm
- New 3nm processor, Samsung says is 3x faster
- New optical heart rate sensor, Samsung says is more accurate
- Battery claims are all over the map, but 48hrs in workout power saving mode, and 100hrs in regular power saving mode, no obvious claim listed on either US or EU site for ‘regular everyday mode’
However, it’s the software that’s just as interesting here. All of these items are also applicable to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 too:
- Will use Google WearOS 5 (first watch to do so)
- Adding cycling FTP prediction: Claims to be able to detect FTP in a simple 4-minute test, paired with Bluetooth power meter
- Adding triathlon/multisport workout mode (tracking all three sports in a full triathlon)
- Adding new running race partner mode to race against previous bests
- Adding support for Energy Score (see Galaxy Ring section)
- Adding FDA approved Sleep Apnea detection (first company to do so)
- Has route following as well
Finally, the Galaxy Watch 7 gets the new multi-band/dual-frequency GNSS also seen on the Galaxy Watch Ultra, then gets all the software features noted above, and is priced from $299USD for the 41mm version. It comes in two sizes 40mm/44mm, and in both non-cellular and LTE variants. It too features the new 3nm processor, as well as the Sleep Apnea detection and new optical heart rate sensor. It does not have the emergency siren or deeper waterproofing, nor the larger case size and battery. It claims 30 hours always-on display.
I dive into everything new on all three products, from pricing to more!

When it comes to watch reviews, I only trust a guy with watch tan lines on BOTH arms. This guy meets the requirement.
Haha! That's hilarious man!
Quality point. Also.. how does this guy have tan lines?
Pretty sure this man doesn't sleep.
his sleep scores are in many reviews 😂
That is his wife score@@iMaxPatten
Only occasionally to get a sleep score.
The Ultra has a kind of Bell&Ross industrial design which I am kind of here for.
NO SUBSCRIPTION!!! finally a manufacturer getting the message from a growing market voice.
If I can wear a ring that sync with my other apps and no subscription then I'm in, even if I don't have any other Samsung devices. I hate wearing a huge fenix overnight just to track sleep and RHR
I have a Garmin Venue 3 that does all of this w/o a subscription. It plays well with my Pixel 7 pro.
🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷
No subscription and more sensors don’t make a Samsung device more accurate.
@corneliusjermainehightower7539 so? At least one Manufacturer is listening to those who don't want another subscription service item. The accuracy will improve as with so many other products.
I hope Garmin brings out a tracking ring soon so I can start wearing other watches again.
Good point however the ring does not have the full specs of the watch
@@darrenwolf6863 My hope is that the ring has inherently better heart rate accuracy (compared to watches) due to its closer contact with the skin.
@@darrenwolf6863It’s enough if it had step and hr tracking. You could still wear a garmin watch if more serious tracking is required
I'm still not sure what's the point of the ring if you have a watch
@@veloester1096
I want to continue to track my health stats, steps, sleep, HR etc but want to wear other watches that aren’t smart watches.
I own mechanical watches that I want to wear.
One of my favourite tech reviewers mainly because he's so detailed but he's also not super biased to one brand like most other RUclipsrs out there and sites like Engadget etc. It's definitely refreshing. I also like that he points out that tech companies like Apple and Samsung copy each other all the time in all of their products which only benefits us the end user. I've actually been waiting for a Galaxy watch to go toe to toe with the Ultra 2 watch from Apple. I like the fact it's considerably cheaper and adds some extra features that I find useful. Looking forward to watching the full review on both the new Ultra watch and the Ring.
Will wait for your HR accuracy video.
Indeed! Here’s to hoping!
I'm gonna watch both his and Quantified Scientist review. I'm so done with typical reviewers who just regurgitate the features listed on the website.
The Quantified Scientist dies a much deeper job & as a bio researcher, he’s likely more reliable.
@@RadBunny2269LOL, in that case why do you watch this channel!?
@UMS9695 More data point is never bad.
02:13 - The RingConn smart ring has a super similar charging case. It'll be interesting to see how they compare.
When you do a review, could you please do a segment where you show the differences between galaxy watch ultra and galaxy watch 7. Thank you.
Features and software aside I love the clean design of the watch 7. The price is also decent compared to the suggested retail price of the Garmin Venu 3.
Can’t wait for your review.
Love the watch tans.
Yep, both wrists....Ray is into his job and has the marks to prove it.
@@CaptConfusion71 As a watch enthusiast myself, I can appreciate a good tan. I literally don't leave home without something on my wrist. My Wahoo leaves the biggest tan, which makes going back to the smaller pieces kinda funny.
Awesome vid!!...thank you!
Can you check in your review if the Watch (or rather the new Samsung Health version) support any Bluetooth Heart Rate Straps/Bluetooth accessories? Maybe there is hope if its supporting Bluetooth powermeter for FTP ^^
The first thing I did today was check your channel to see if you had a video on these new devices, and I was not disappointed haha. When you do your full review, could you please go over the AGEs thing they're advertising? It sounds super interesting but unfortunately I'm a little confused on exactly what an AGE is.
Great summary! Question (and possibly major differentiation from AWU) - does watch/ring track nightly HRV? Or ongoing HRV in general?
Thank you for the wrap-up! 😊 One question: Is there any information about the external HRM or Stryd connectivity? I guess these could be there finally if the cycling power meter connectivity is reality.
Are they finally bringing support for external sensors to their watches?
Hi. I don't have smartwatch yet, but I want to by it. Could you tell me which one is better for me? Are there any differences between galaxy watch 7 and ultra besides bakteryjne life and shape? Or it's better to buy previous version?
Hi, I own galaxy watch 4 . Do you feel i need to upgrade to galaxy watch 7 44mm. Will it make a difference.please suggest
Looks nice, though a bit too late. Bought the Fenix 7X this year and I don't see any reason to switch 😅
Is it worth getting epix Pro or wait for a new release?
At some point Samsung will reach hardware parity with Apple (and vice versa).
Always trust your experience/views. For the new watches, I was hoping for a 7 classic with a rotating bezel, so I am holding off on a new watch for awhile.
Thank you for the video. Maybe you said it and I missed it. Does the watch have eSim capability? Stand alone 4/5G connectivity.
Hello. Can I connect with my iphone?Or is only for Samsung devices? For the galaxy ultra
Im looking for a light watch but stylish. Long battery life. Im a samsung user. What would you recommend? Thanks. From ireland.
Reqlly appreciate your reviews. Eagerly waiting for the data accuracy review, hopefully before the preorder period so I can claim the benefits
A Panerai.......that's a great shape, and glad they went for a rubber double sided band, like my Casio....so many features to explore.
Very good video. I want to see how accurate their sleep tracking is.
Hi. Can you please test if you can finally connect to an external Bluetooth HR strap?
what is tha actual battery size on the galaxy ultra watch
if the ring was a controler for the watch as well so it was a one hand operation would be a great future idea. love to work with you if your hiring!
Do you know if the Energy Score will come to Galaxy Watch 4/5/6, since the 7 has a new sensor?
Yes
When is the review out for the Ultra, want to know if the gps is better?
My classic 6 47mm lasts roughly 2 days on single charge and has smaller battery, i would aim closer to 3-4 days on this one
DC can the watch 7 or Ultra broadcast HR to say a wattbike app?
So not that much upgrade goi g from 7 to the ultra then? Apart from design?
I think j may get the 7 44mm or see what price impact it has on the 6 Classic.
Im still rocking a Titen 2
The ring is available in the UK store for pre-order.
Garmin should come out with a tracking ring. I hate wearing my Fenix 7x pro while sleeping!
The normal battery life was in the small print on the Canadian site. 60hr with AOD and 80 without I think, from memory.
A huge missed opportunity for the Watch 7, 30 hours with AOD? With it off maybe 2 days usage? Still not the leap forward expected and now Huawei, Garmin, Oneplus have way better battery life.
Do they support ANT+ Sensors with the watch?
Additional Question: Does the Samsung Health App have similar metrics like Garmin (VO2Max, Training Load, etc.)
Galaxy watch 7 support NFC?
Great video! It’s interesting; you never mentioned that Samsung is trying to compete with Garmin at least in terms of the two watches that they released. Do you think they might feel they can’t compete with Garmin but instead want to go after the Apple and Google customer base?
Which color? I stuck between grey or white
Awesome 👌
Do you have an idea of when will you do the HR accuracy video of the Watch 7? Thanks.
Likely in about a week.
@@Dcrainmaker Thanks, I’ll be waiting for the video in order to know if I’ll buy it or not.
Could you review the galaxy watch ultra please like fenix, i'd love to see how well is it compare to Garmin product interm of health, sport, heart rate tracking. Last time i had the heart reate sensor was not good sometime is read and sometime during excecise is doesn't read the HR. THank you
But why should there be a subscription for that in the first place?
Love my Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, even with me having a Garmin... they have their uses. Looking forward to this.
I love to see Apple Watch ultra vs Samsung galaxy watch ultra that be interesting to see 😅
Will those who got excited about no subscription notice the price is $100 more expensive than Oura ring? Which is enough to cover the fee for 2 years.
You should also test the blood glucose monitoring (before and after food + workout) You can test it with the pin prick monitors and let us know. I'm pretty sure that would be great for diabetics who would like to workout and know what to eat. You can test it with high protein, high fat, high carb or high fibre meals too. It'd be an interesting review.
Doubt any data Samsung or any other smart watch brand push at us, like 90% isn't even usable, things like sleep, calorie counting, a so on is all guessing, don't trust them with your health, even less if you actually depend on a glucose monitor.
Chest hrm yes or no
Really getting frustrated that they hint at continuous glucose monitoring, or at least built in app support for my existing CGM, but not delivering. I'd pay up for it if the new watch supported either function.
I kinda wanna know if i can finally put away Garmin Epix and Oura and just do Samsung watch and ring. Currently wearing 2 watches because of apps and integration limitations cross platform! And continued detailed metrics from years of historic data on one platform... One device/ring to rule them all ?? More annoying than the USB-C frustrations.
On their website its says BT/LTE for the ultra, in uk it does anyway
Correct. Meaning, you can only get it in an LTE variant, not just a BT-only variant (all watches have BT).
@@Dcrainmaker ohh right thanks 👍 looks abit to bulky for me
Next year is gonna be a SQUARE SCREEN 🎉🎉🎉
When can you pre order watch 7 ultra?
Already 6 hours ago.
can't wait to take the FTP test on the Ultra
Has the galaxy watch 7 got the temperature sensor and sos siren? X
Yes
What features I would be missing if I buy Watch 7 and pair it with a pixel?
All the Health AI bits, such as energy score, as well as some of the sensor components related to ECG.
@@Dcrainmaker Damn really? that was the only part I enjoyed 😳, is it confirmed that it will be missing?
@@atharvjairath3339 Interestingly, it looks like they've tweaked slightly the wording at the bottom of the press release, to limit the requirement to the ring, but not Samsung Health AI. However, in pre-media briefings, they said Health AI needed a Samsung phone....frankly not sure at this point. I guess we'll all find out together.
@@Dcrainmaker Sure! But if they are gate keeping those features, it goes against the very principle of android - the openness. If the above is true, I see no advantage Samsung has over Apple's closed ecosystem.
We got the ring here in the UK aswel
The warch 7 doesn't come in 47mm,correct?
Correct
They looked reeeeaaal hard at Garmin's homework lol
I should hope so
And that's a good thing.
The watch 7 Ultra looks nice but I only have one question does it get hot during calls and shut down this has been a bug for the watch series the last past years LTE versions shut down during calls
The one we've all been waiting for
Compare Watch Ultra with Epix 2 pro 51mm sapphire edition
If you can't pair a BT HR monitor then this is a fail just like every other Samsung watch. WHY do they refuse to enable this???
Time to organize the workbench Ray 😂
On the todo list for tomorrow before the open house!
@@Dcrainmaker just giving you a hard time. I love to see a used shop ☺️
You're doing great work
My thing is. Is the Galaxy Watch Ultra actual competition to the Apple Watch Ultra? Can we use the Galaxy Watch Ultra on an iPhone?
No, it's not a direct competitor, you can't connect them to each other
I have that same gree t-shirt and it's from Target 💗
Haha...indeed!
I'm so nervous for your review of the watch 7 ultra. I pre ordered it. I use alot of the smart features. I have the 6 classic so I know I'll like that part of it. But the health features are really making me nervous. The dual band gps better work good.
Where is the clock
Wonderful, but are the sensors accurate? Samsung have had terribly inaccurate sensors with all their watches 😮
Samsung have been using the world ultra for 5 years. Apple copied them. Also Apple are in a law suit due to not paying for their spo2 technology 😂
Very excited by this move from Samsung 😍 Nice video Ray! 🔥
hope Ultra and watch 7 will have heart rate metrics Accurate not like older series
A phone, a watch and a ring, but what about sports styled unit like a cycling head-unit that can actually be used for sport specific activities like cycling allowing you to observe the metrics in real time. The phone these days is the most clunky bit of kit you have to lug around
why are all your videos blurry? you should be in focus.
0:38 Garmin does not have a subscription?
Nope, no subscription
No non invasive glucose monitoring i'm afraid as some predicted in older videos
Yeah, those predictions people made are crazy. That tech is still many years away.
The only thing on my Wishlist was blood glucose monitoring🤷♂️ The first to achieve this will be the king on the market😎
Finally a square watch from Samsung
...
Well, it'll eventually get there.
Preordered the Samsung Watch Ultra... Mainly because the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic sucks. Im plum out of luck if this watch ends up sucking too. I have the Apple Watch Ultra too and Apple still ahead in the smartwatch game.
Samsung watch ultra dont pair with iphone..
@@KarelOmacka-kl9iu I have an OnePlus Open as well as an iPhone
Oura is an interesting one, it’s great I’m surprised that garmin or Apple when oura did their last round of funding. If Apple ring launches, then Garmin is probably the future of oura
TR is the best one in estimating FTP. 4 min? Looooool!
Good summary. The big deals are the new BioActive sensor and the 3nm CPU powerhouse for both the Ultra and the regular Watch 7. However, the Ultra's 10 ATM rating is only static pressure for 10 minutes. Not good for diving below 1.5 meters (!), according to Samsung's own website, a k a not at all. This is different from the Apple Ultra, good for diving to 40m, or Huawei's GT3 Pro, GT4 Pro, good for diving to 30m, and their Watch Ultimate, good for 100m diving.
what a letdown with 60h battery..... i expected ultra to have at least 5 7 days of battery... why no one can catch garmin? :|
Prioritization of different underlying processor stuff.
WHOA, big creature this watch 😂
No subscription, count me in!
From 4 sensors to 13, just wait for the next Apple Watch. They will be like, '13? Pshh... ours have 50!' 😅😂😂 Because companies like to copy each other but slightly improve it. But in all seriousness, 13 sensors make this now the most accurate device on the planet... for now. 😄
Best one among these is galaxy watch 7 with all the features and softwares of ultra...
you’re literally my comfort person i love you #amzwatch ! I'm saving up for my next watch.
test GPS trackers without SIM
I always do.
Can't get the watch 7 to work. Have tried with both a OnePlus 8T and Nord2 phone. It won't let me do the software update, in order to start up the watch in the wearable app. According to the arrogant Samsung Support, it's almost only Samsung phones that work. Come on Samsung. They should tell this before you buy. I guess I have to let go on the watch:-/
These rings run really small. My ring size is 5-6 and pwr information is news to me. Ordered it yesterday. My Galaxy Watch 7 is the small one 40mm. What I don’t like is the sm chg only last about 40 hours while the big one is 100 hours. A fair amount of women have small hands so I consider this discrimination. If a 40mm would have been available in the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, I would have ordered that. Thank you😊
Glad I found your channel
The subscription is trading in every year
I wish the ultra had more features to differentiate itself from the 7. They're too similar for me to pay for the ultra.
