+Jake Volanski Having artsy friends did help, but it wasn't necessary. While doing this, I was thinking how great it would be to do this over the holidays if you're gathered with family and stuck inside the house for long periods of time.
+emorylouise As some have already proved (check out our tumblr), you just need to find one. Or just keep this idea in your back pocket for another time :).
Sarah, I so enjoy your videos. I love your command on the English language and your interesting and artful way of celebrating food! Can't wait to try the scrabble scramble dinner! Look forward to more of your content. Bon Appitite!!!!!!!!!
This is the video where you further thumb your nose at the meaning of art, while torturing us all with the incredible foods we'll never get to try ourselves. Touche, Art Assignment! Also, this channel should really change its name from the Art Assignment to the Life Assignment. Bon appetit!
+Thomas Smith Thumb my nose, I think not! Just trying to broaden our definition of it, per as usual. Your comment just further fuels my fire to continue efforts to confuse the boundaries of art and life. Thanks for watching :).
+The Art Assignment I'm not sure art's definition needs any more broadening or confusion, but I salute your efforts. Every week I get something new to think about.
Are there any youtube creators that you consider video artists? Many would disagree but I think there is something artful in the destructive performances put on by HowToBasic for instance (again many would disagree). Also Twitch Creative has just launched, what do you think of it? Awesome video, thanks for showing how to the scramble scrabble
+Lucas Miller Interesting question. I think there is something artful about a lot of videos posted by youtube creators. But I guess I'm wondering what you mean by "video artists." For me, context matters. Some videos are made with the RUclips audience in mine, made to be watched on RUclips within a browser window or on your phone. Other videos are made to be projected onto a wall in a dark gallery, with a museum or gallery audience in mind. Some videos can and have crossed over from one space into the other, but in my interpretation of the videos I like to keep in mind the original intention. I think Twitch Creative is great, but definitely falls into my category of video tutorial. Those who are making the tutorials for me are indeed artists. But if a different artist were to fill a gallery with screens displaying Twitch Creative videos as a conscious act, I would call that video art (and appropriation art). See what I mean?
+The Art Assignment I guess I'm trying to figure out the 'Video artist' part myself. I do come across lots of videos where the intention is to be comedic, but there is still an element of skill and artistry in something intended just to be funny. One example is a video called 'I'm so sorry' by a user named logitech4873, which is meant to be puerile comedy with no deeper meaning (that I could immediately read). I'm still tempted to call it art for the skill required to make such a video and it's comedic timing. Tying in to what you were saying about context and the intent of the creator, do you think that some of these strange youtube videos will ever be considered a form of outsider art? I do think it would be funny if in fifty years time MOMA or GOMA end up showing a curated collection of youtube shlock such as I'm so sorry or the Fensler Films GI Joe videos.
This is cool but overwhelming! omg I can't imagine being able to afford half of these ingredients, let alone like a house or apartment with enough room for all those people. ;_; We're a family of three (two dads and a 3yo) but we don't even own a table! haha (we could definitely afford a table there just isn't any place to put one). I didn't think my shit was this far from being together but omg it IS.
+Sion Jesse Oh no! We never aspire to make videos that causes one to feel their shit isn't together. Apologies. Please know that the essence of this assignment is to work with what you have and be creative within constraints. You can do this assignment with just a couple people, and it needn't be as fancy as we made it. You decide what words to play, and you decide how to interpret those words. Oh, and my 5 yo was in charge of adding the blue food coloring to the rice/water combo before we cooked it!
I dream to one day have the friends artsy enough to make a dinner party like this possible.
+Jake Volanski Having artsy friends did help, but it wasn't necessary. While doing this, I was thinking how great it would be to do this over the holidays if you're gathered with family and stuck inside the house for long periods of time.
The idea sounds great, save the fact that my mom always cheats at scrabble. God only knows what we'd end up eating.
+The Art Assignment I feel like I definitely have enough artsy friends for this - but perhaps not enough friends who know how to cook. lol.
+Jake Volanski Thank goodness this isn't scored, then!
I imagine some of the odder combinations still seem relatively tame for the man who began his RUclips career with blenderized Happy Meals.
+juststeveschannel It's true. These dishes far surpassed any of the concoctions made on the vlogbrothers channel.
This looks so fun... my friends from back home always do day long pot luck dinner parties so will try and persuade them to do this next time :')
+Rowan Ellis Day long pot luck dinner parties. Perfect duration for this one! Do convince them to try it.
+The Art Assignment The issue will be getting us all in one place twice :') But we are definitely going to try and make it happen!
This sound like the greatest idea for a grown-up house party.
I love this idea, I just need more friends!
+emorylouise As some have already proved (check out our tumblr), you just need to find one. Or just keep this idea in your back pocket for another time :).
+The Art Assignment I'm on my way to your Tumblr for some inspiration then! Thanks!
Besides the awesomeness that is the assignment, what a fantastic video! Loved the editing & narration
Mine says pizza in every direction.
+ljmasternoob we tried very hard to make pizza happen, but we were missing a P!
+The Art Assignment I guess we need an assignment to make Scrabble tiles.
We are doing this next weekend. I will (hopefully) remember to take photos.
Keep the great videos coming!
+Eric Metz Can't wait to see how it turns out!
Gosh what a fun idea. Such creative dishes. Amazed (and happy) that they actually turned out good. haha

I LOVE this idea!
This seems like a fabulous idea!!! You have clearly read Priya Parker's The Art of Gathering. Am I right?
My video was preceded by an add for something called the "Yeti Coldster". Seems appropriate.
Andy Ross 😂😂😂 i guess Sarah's not the yeti really anymore tho is she? Not only is she in videos more now, she has her own CHANNEL!
This is so lovely, what a fun idea
I might actually do this one
Wait, no Meredith? No Bald John Green and Other John Green? ;)
Rich people and your nice houses and expansive knowledge of many-lettered fancy foods
This is the video where you further thumb your nose at the meaning of art, while torturing us all with the incredible foods we'll never get to try ourselves. Touche, Art Assignment! Also, this channel should really change its name from the Art Assignment to the Life Assignment. Bon appetit!

Now we know where star chefs got their ideas from😂
Good
