Mongolia had proposed to Kalmyks to migrated back to Mongolia in 1922 during Kalmyk Famine, but Russians refused it.
We was ready to take back these people.
Several times we was taking back Kalmyk exiles to Mongolia when they was deported to die in Siberia during USSR.
The Kalmyks are the most suffered mongolic ethnic group. They was settled in Dzungaria/Zuungar( todays Xinjang province) during Qing Dynasty with many other oirat mongolic ethnic groups.
But the Qing Dynasty committed many genocides and ethnic cleansing against oirats. Small group of oirats (later kalmyks) escaped from Dzungaria and was settled in Volga Astrakhan region in 16century.
Then come the Russians who commited the same thing genocides and massacres againg Kalmyks.
Kalmyks population was redused to half. They sent them to war without food and weapon, or deported to Siberia and most of them died without reaching it.
Russians scientists tried to convince Buryats and Kalmyks that they are not Mongols and that they should abandon their language and tradition.
I met some Buryats and they do not want to associate themselves with Mongols.
The Kalmyks speak a oirat mongolic language which is identically similar to oirat dialect spoken in Mongolia. So we usually consider Kalmyk language as kalmyk mongol dialect not a language.
But still today there is very few people who can speak kalmyk mongolic language in Kalmykia or buryad mongol in Buryatia. The younger generation speaks only russian. These languages are dying, all thanks to Russia.
Russian society do not want to support their minority's culture, tradition and language. They are against thay the minority's preserving their culture and language.
I hope that Kalmyk youngsters will learn their language. You are the last one who can do that.
I am very sad that these dialects, languages and cultures are disappearing. If you loose these things what is essence to call yourself Mongol or Kalmyk.
Mongolia and Inner Mongolia already have very strong bond, we are very close. The majority of mongolians i China can fluently speak mongolian. The best thing with inner mongolians are that they preserved the traditional old mongolic script which we outer mongolians failed. We adapted cyrilic from russians. Again Russians. They are very good at destroy others culture.
I am Mongolian and i really love kalmyk and buryad people. I think we should have more relation with each other. Since We are the only Mongolic nations left in this world, we should really support each other.

    • @VilinLug
      @VilinLug 6 лет назад +8

You forgot to mention that Kalmyks were conscripted by Nazi Germany and that they fought against both Soviets and Western Allies (most notably in Italy). Was that on purpose? Russians destroy other peoples' cultures? Really? Compare native peoples of Siberia to native peoples of America and you will see the difference. There are no native American republics in USA, all of their languages are virtually extinct. But in Russia you have Yakutia, Tuva, Buryatia and many others with their official languages. And as far as I know, there is large campaign in Kalmykia to actually draw people to learn Kalmyk, there are free courses and lectures, TV advertisments, ats., but guess what - just a few people are interested. You can't blame anyone else for that. Just like you can't blame anyone else for the fact that you failed to preserve old Mongolian script in Mongolia. It is YOUR fault. Don't blame Russians or Chinese, cause there are peoples in this world who were under foreign rule for several centuries, and who didn't lose their national identity. If you managed to lose your national identity after only 50 years of Russian influence, then you yourselves are guilty of that. You are no lady. I think you are just some nationalist bitch who can't accept sad facts, and look for anyone else to blame.

    Hello!
Some say that Kalmyk is a dialect of Mongolian others say that it is an independent language. Considering ha act that Polish, Slovakian and Ukrainian, or Sweedish and Danish are accepted as different languages, I prefer to speak about Kalmyk as an independent language closely related to other Mongolic languages such as Khalkha or Buryat. To my opinion these are languages belonging to the family of Mongolic languages.

Kalmyks speak Torguud dialect within the Oird (Oirat) dialect group spoken in the western Mongolia.
She speak in Torguud dialect very clearly and I can understand every word she said without any issue.
100% Mongolian vocabulary; only her pronouncing is a bit different from the other Mongolian language dialects.
Time to time we observe that Kalmyks preserved a bit more middle Mongolian vocabulary than the other dialects.

@tsasaa12 For me as a european its a language on the grounds that Serbian and Croatian, Sweedish and Danish are referred to as languages. I admit they are pretty close, but for me these are still languages to me. And in my view Mongolian is not only a language but a family of languages that includes Kalmy, Buryat, Halh and Horchin etc. As long as I upload videos about these let's say varieties I'll label them as languages. Of course everyone is free to disagree.

Halimag and Hamnigan are different. The Halimags are of Oirad origin and live in tha Kalmyk Republic, while the Hamnigans have Tungus ancestors and inhabit the North-eastern part of Mongolia (Xentii, Dornod)and assimilated with the local Buryats.
