Literally just stumbled on and listened to a synopsis of his book "Single on Purpose" yesterday! Going through a recent and tough breakup so it was insightful~
As an Asian American myself, I can somewhat relate. When I was young, I had certain goals that I wanted to meet. However in my teens and early 20s, I struggled with health problems. Eventually, I got the help that I needed and gradually my health improved over time. Now at 42, I’m more self aware and confident. Though I still have other health issues, I make sure to maintain my overall health.
It was an interesting conversation especially regarding listening to John and Janet describing their age bracket and growing up. From the way that they talk, I know John is 2nd generation and so is Janet about the way that they talk about the parents. Asian Americans, whether Japanese, Chinese, Korean along with other Asian experience similar problems like all new immigrants to the country that 1st generation and 2nd generation have about the development of those 2nd generation feeling split with original cultural ties and fitting in. I'd be interested in seeing the conversational dialogue of 2nd generation and 3rd generation about growing up/separation of perspective about are they Asian compared to Grandparents/parents/3rd generation. Since there are always Asians of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese always immigrating to the United States, it's a continuous process. ABG's topics are interesting, as Hawaii has a huge Asian presence throughout the entire State with immigration dating from the 1880's and is continuing. Being Asian, respecting the Asian heritage and knowing what/who they are , and how does it mean for adulthood, next generation is important, especially when looking Asian but not thinking Asian can be interesting, when they encounter Asians of their home nationality.
Loved hearing John’s story. So inspiring. It’s never too late. Both of y’all killing it in life. Great collab 👏👏👏
Really enjoyed this episode especially as a male listener it’s important to see a man talking about emotions and how to overcome personal traumas 🤙
