Spent $600 at their booth buying all echoes of death, a couple single models, more stone bases and some more dice. Was kinda having buyers remorse spending that much, but when I got home from the con my Gambler's chest was waiting at my door, and I am all hyped again.
Great interview! Watching Adam in this interview, especially at the end, is why I will always be a supporter of KDM. Yes, sometimes things don't always go as planned and delivery times might stretch out further than we would like, but the guy always delivers unlike some other companies. Now to continue the agonizing wait for my Gambler's Chest to arrive!
I am not the hugest kdm fan, but i recognize what poots created, which is basically defining a new genre. That being said, bc im not so obsessed with the game, the wait wasnt that bad to me. If Poots was Best Buy, id be asking where my game is. He is not, he is a small designer bringing a very unique experience to life. Why anyone expects that to not have delays, even considerable ones is silly to me. I will be keeping my GC, looking forward to more from them.
Regardless of actually playing all of this stuff, the connection and devotion Adam has is all I care about when I think of supporting this project. The fact that he ended up in tears while reviving all his team effort through this continuing journey is what makes this brand unique. Its simply not just another product, its a whole experience and, why not, a way of life. Give the best, don´t settle for less, and take the neccesary time for doing so, the community will understand and have your back always. Thank you Quackalope for this great interview. Thanks Adam for this big beautiful beast that is KDM
Haven't played 1 second of KDM or even had a thought of getting into the beast of a game.... this interview really swayed me into thinking about starting the journey. Passion is contagious and always prevails!
Thanks for the interview. Glad hes looking at making it easier to make future expansions one at a time. I'm looking forward to seeing wave 4 (or however it shakes out) and i definitely want to see what he does after. Additionally, i really appreciate his sincerity at the end there. Its hard dealing with success as an ambitious creative, timelines don't end up as you think they should and people get angry. He hasn't let that stop him from delivering, even if it was late.
Great questions and an awesome interview! For backers like myself these are the rare moments in which we get to see Adam talking about his Kingdom Death universe, his view on things, the Kickstarter campaign and what the future (or I should say darkness) has in store for us KDM survivors. Thank you Quack!
I have the utmost respect for Adam, easily one of my favorite game designers and just an all-around humble genuine guy. I really wish I stopped to chat with him at the con this year, I saw him hanging around the booth on Thursday but he was talking to someone and I didn't want to hover, so I told myself I'd come back later and then never found the time. Jesse, big shoutout for giving Adam that really heartfelt compliment at the end. I can only imagine how much it means to hear that from someone who has so much passion for something he created. I think Adam nailed it when he said at the end of the day it's not about the money. Leaving an impact on people's lives is something no amount of money can replace.
and we are going to play it! i love kingdom death and have introduced to so many of friends and they all have loved it .... I dont mind waiting so long for it to arrive because this project carries lots of love from Poots and the team and I believe in them ... keep going
Dear Jesse, dear Sir, that was an amazing interview! Thank you so much! I am a late-comer to the KDM Journey and bought the Game, Pre-ordered Gambler's Chest and Campaigns of Death 2020 during Black Friday and Christmas. I fell in love with the game so much that I collected all big expansions, paint the minis and build tons of extras ^^ My thanks go to Mr Poots for creating a Work of Art well worth the wait. A great journey to be part of even if I was not part of the original KS. So great that this world lives and that Mr Poots stuck with it despite of obstacles like Covid and family crisis. Really looking forward what further concepts will be explored and so excited to receive my Gambler's Chest soon :D
Thanks for the interview! Really cool to see where the game is going. Our channel is painting and playing for the first time this Sunday so this was quite helpful.
I absolutely love seeing this side of Adam. As an independent creator I understand the hurdles and what it takes to make something as incredible as you want it to be. Cheers to KDM and Quackalope, to the challenges, and to the glory of what's to come.
Wow! That’s great. I saw Bra Mithra’s interview as well and you really got a Lot of good commentary and discuss Union in yours. As a relatively new KDM fan (playing my first campaign now as we speak (just beat Butcher L2)), I love that we got a bit of a shout out. Adam should be very proud of what’s he’s done.
28:26 Happy hearing his stance on this. It always feels like certain people just need the numbers to be perfect when it doesn't need to be. Dude is telling us a story, let him do it. So the bone spear or whatever doesn't make sense, maybe there's a reason for that. So the silk bomb isn't that great, oh well. Not everything needs to be completely balanced or even exciting. Sometimes it can be incredibly situational just because. Especially in a game where people are scrounging in the darkness for bits of stuff to survive. Things are gonna get messy in a world like that. Results are going to be chaotic. I think these weird design choices are playing into that idea. I think that's cool.
"If there was always the right path, everyone would drive that car and that's not fun". Some people feel that way about elements of KDM, and that's Ok too. They are also probably technically correct. People have different ability in breaking down costs/benefits of choices in strategy games, and for some people it's too clear that certain choices are not viable. In addition, there are design decisions like the Spidicules armor being locked behind a lvl 3, and that's unwarranted. I also think the core concept of how speed works is a problem. I think Poots creativity more than makes up for what he lacks in technical balance. I accept that in some instances I'll have to have custom cards printed to make the strategy elements more dynamic. It's the sacrifice I make to the right side of my brain so that the left side can indulge in the amazing world Poots created.
If the goal is merely to win then maybe that would be all that mattered, but for most people playing this game it isn't. You beat a white lion by perfectly capitalizing on his weaknesses and using min/max gear im yawning. You kill a lv3 Atnas by slapping him with a giant fish while blind in both eyes and missing a leg and you get a custom model made to commemorate you and stories told of your glory for all time.
I had to go and look at the wood grain of my Distracted model to see the arms that I never noticed. My friend showed me KDM years back right after the 10th Anniversary models came out. I had to buy my own copy and it has become my all time favorite board game. KDM lead me to your channel and to the amazing world that Adam Poots has created and I can't wait for more releases and to see what the future and the story goes from here.
Completely new to KDM and about to start a campaign from a friends set, so I've been absorbing everything I can. REALLY cool to see both the passion and appreciation!

After having kept an eye on the original limited edition resin miniatures back in the days and actually not being all that fascinated by creations like the wet nurse, I’ve been an active part of this journey since the early days of the first kickstarter. I still can’t say I’d really like Adam, if I had the chance to get to know him, but I’ve always felt a strong respect for and connection to his dedication towards KD(M). Maybe it was because of this appreciation for what kind of a maniac Adam seemed to be and never having perceived any attempts to hide that fact over all these years, that my acceptance of the long process actually never changed despite any frustrations, that I might have felt at times. Seeing Adam showing his emotions about the project, that he obviously (at least to me) put so much love and effort in over the years, seems like a good reminder of how easy it is for disgruntled supporters to turn sour and to forget about the rich evidence, that Adam never took any part of the development process or the community’s support lightly. I remember saying so in the comments of several KS updates and I wonder how many of those frustrated commenters would have caught a glimpse of at least that sincere strife for an awesome product, that (as GC now showed) would bring a lot of joy to people eventually. I was taking up his time in the last 2 hours of the con. This is a hour interview and we had a lot of questions from the community. To be respectful to him + get to the questions I moved some parts forward. Naturally, a conversation like this could have and should take hours upon hours.
Respect. Best way to convince me to buy a product and ill order the GC tonight to support a passionate creator who has made something truly remarkable.

If shipping and taxes weren't as high I would go all-in if or when the backerkit opens again. I really hope that there will be a warehouse in Europe in the near future. An oficial app is a very good idea.
Yes unfortunately no EU warehouse yet sigh - so bad for Black Friday purchases ^^. However everything from Backerkit seems currently to be sent from within the EU (think it was the Netherlands) so there were reasonable shipping costs and only the ususal VAT.
The 1.5 core box alone will give you dozens upon dozens of hours of content. If you like it and you decide you want more you can pick up some of the monster and nemesis expansions that appeal to you, or just jump into the Gambler's Chest once it's more widely available. The distribution model is more board game-style than miniatures-game style so you don't have to buy a bunch of different products to get the "full" experience or build up a collection of monsters like you would a Warhammer army. Most of the non-monster single miniatures you can buy either have minimal game content or no game content (the latter are targeted mostly at collectors and painters).
I hate to admit it but i pledged in the original Kickstarter, I have over $1000 invested in the game/expansions, and i still have yet to start a campaign lol. This is the year thanks to receiving the GCE and having my excitement reignited
Really hoping COD has the promo cards included, or that another pack is released with them. I can't bring myself to drop $60+ to get an Indomitable Resource card for the White Lion. Beautiful mini or not, I have enough of them. I've grown tired of buying minis just to get a card. It would be sweet if they release an annual card pack that has all that year's promo cards in it.
Try to remember when you are interviewing to let the interviewee finish their thought. I can see that you were excited about asking questions, but you cut Adam off at various points instead of letting him finish and naturally flowing into follow-up questions. Don't ask the follow-up as soon as you think of it, wait, and then say something like "Going back to what you just said about..."
Time was a limiting factor - I held him for 60 min at the very end of the con and wanted to make sure we got the fan questions in. 100% go slower, when you have the lux of that time.
@@JasonSetley He came with not one but two lists of prepared questions. This was absolutely an interview. He did do a decent job, but it could have been better, and I found myself distracted by the interruptions and so I offered constructive criticism. Many of his questions were good enough that Adam would have kept talking unprompted and it would have been a smoother conversation.
Thank you so much for doing this and sharing it with the community. Lot of great information and a lot of good questions. I do have one comment related to this thread. I understand time was of the essence, but a lot of your time was spent qualifying your questions instead of letting Adam respond. I would recommend watching a couple episodes of Diary of a CEO and his interview technique. Obviously make it your own and I applaud you for your ongoing dedication to the Kingdom Death Community, but I think it would enhance your content when interviewing. Thank you!
Wow … Thank you for that amazing interview … After the ATO fiasco I did not know if I ever could trust your content again … but I think that you‘ve learned a painful lesson … and you are damn talented … so, you got me back 😉
I feel like if poots had a youtube channel and regularly went live doing an AMA it would resolve a ton of the salty ass people in this community. Im not one of them btw, they annoy me too. I dont care how warranted their complaints are. Imo of you wanted a game NOW, theres a target right up the street and you can pick from what is available, buy it and walk out of the store the same day. If that doesnt work and people want to keep crowdfundung games, than stfu, sit down and wait like a gentlemen.

However everything from Backerkit seems currently to be sent from within the EU (think it was the Netherlands) so there were reasonable shipping costs and only the ususal VAT.
If I was interested in getting into KDM, where do I start?
Base game
The 1.5 core box alone will give you dozens upon dozens of hours of content. If you like it and you decide you want more you can pick up some of the monster and nemesis expansions that appeal to you, or just jump into the Gambler's Chest once it's more widely available. The distribution model is more board game-style than miniatures-game style so you don't have to buy a bunch of different products to get the "full" experience or build up a collection of monsters like you would a Warhammer army. Most of the non-monster single miniatures you can buy either have minimal game content or no game content (the latter are targeted mostly at collectors and painters).
I'm hearing audio and enjoying watching. :)
XD glad - not sure why those comments showed up!
I hate to admit it but i pledged in the original Kickstarter, I have over $1000 invested in the game/expansions, and i still have yet to start a campaign lol. This is the year thanks to receiving the GCE and having my excitement reignited
Jesse it’s amazing to see doing this after so many years. Your love for this game is shining through just like it did years ago
Great interview!
Thank you!
Poots proved them wrong. He delivered. And he delivered like nobody else could. Kudos.
I think you’re misinterpreting the video this is not an interview there’s a conversation between two people I think Jesse did a fine job.
Your interview was great!
Thank you!
Thank you for this.
My pleasure!
You made Poots cry, shame on you 😂
We all did I think
Trust me the audio is there on the video
XD thanks
@@Quackalope anytime, just wanted to give you a piece of mind. Also I was waiting for this awesome interview with Adam Poots. Great Job!!
@@SniperinShadow Thanks so much - glad you enjoyed it!
Strong video. Very good interview. Poots is gorgeous.
Much appreciated
Wow … Thank you for that amazing interview … After the ATO fiasco I did not know if I ever could trust your content again … but I think that you‘ve learned a painful lesson … and you are damn talented … so, you got me back 😉
Glad to have you back - hopefully we can continue to display that we care and will continue to do our best.
Oufff that ending !! Yep Im fan
Fantastic interview!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What is Adam holding?
ah, probably a mic.
Yooooo im the Cyclops Knight guy!!! Lets goooo!
great interview
Great interview, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The internet is full of the worst of us.
Thank you for this dude.
Any time!
I'd love a CCG!
Quack
No audio?
But . . . there is audio
I'm not getting any audio with the video.
There is certainly audio on it - check your devices?
Tried again and working fine now.
No idea what happened. Had audio on the ad, then nothing for the actual video. Oh well, all good now.
Nice Tie
Thnaks!
Event cards exist with 3rd party developer with branching options. Highly recommend.
Love you Poots
LONG LIVE POOTZ!!!!!!
I'm not hearing any audio 🤔
. . . We have audio - not sure why you are not getting any. Checked multiple devices.
