Disclaimer: Boss sent me the ME-90 but all opinions are 100% my own!
So, that was surprisingly good! Thoughts?
Agreed! I tried the GT-1000 and it just had a bit too much noise for me and my environment, but the modeling was solid.
Thoughts? Got ME-50 back in the days, so being pretty nostalgic. I must say this unit has woken up some excitement in me, even neural dsp quad cortex can't do (I just don't like something about it; it is great for band stage performance, where you need to connect everybody in one mixing board, but else- bruh). Buuuut. I think Mooer Black Truck
ruclips.net/video/secgRm1zsCM/видео.html
has better sparkling distortion sequence, so M80M would sound better with it, than with ME90.
Ha! Sweet shirt! Just noticed it!!!!
Kids these days just starting out on guitar have no idea how lucky they are to have access to all this killer gear out now.
Absolutely!
So true
It’s already started! I sat on the couch tonight, watched a movie, and the AI version of my band played the show and nobody noticed
This was actually surprisingly gooood! It's fascinatingly, just how far digital tone has come in the last 15 years.
Jon - this is unbelievable! What a sound.
I just purchased the unit about 2 weeks ago and it's not bad and no menus - really simple to use. I would recommend it!
is it easy to get some death metal tones for instance? Thx and congrats!
yes

I find myself going back to “less is more”. Been using my amped3 lately and love it. Switchable wattage, tube sound, takes pedals. And analog knobs. I’m enjoying it!
Beautiful demonstration man!
Great review, thanks! My new ME-90 is arriving tomorrow...
Jon you're an absolute production wizard. When I seen which piece of gear you were using here I was thinking "He's going to have his work cut out for him".... I should have known you were going to make this sound incredible!!
Thanks! I was very pleasantly surprised!
Totally agree with this
Great to see another perspective on the ME90. Funny, I always hear your tone cut through no matter what you use. But perhaps that is also a testament to the ME90 as it was able to deliver what you needed. Great video!
Thanks Dan!
Sounds great. I am sold!!!
You do seem to magically make everything sound epic
Man! This is so sick!!! I know it don’t depend on you, but if you could, pleeeease, made a video using the GX-100. It’s a beast of unit! Cheers!
sounds amazing perfect playing mate very alternative, 2000s punk influenced
Self-admittedly I will say that my love for the analog sound keeps me somewhat ignorant to a lot of digital gear these days. Which a shame because I don't get to appreciate just how far this platform has come. This was a crucial pathway in any of our guitar playing journey's at some point, and today... it's completely convincing. Great riffs as always. ✌️
2:12-2:32 DUDE!!!!.....that was such a brilliant throwback to the early 2000s modern rock/nu metal/pop punk era..... anything right from POD, Linkin Park, Chevelle, Deftones, Yellow Card, Incubus, 3 days grace, Fallout boy...... everything nwas covered in those ,20 seconds ......thank you so much for that ❤❤❤
This part definitely sounds like Deftones. The wah parts sounds like Crossfade
Absolutely solid demo video certainly sealed the deal for me just downloaded your patches and they're mega. Just wanted to say thank you
your first riff reminds me "Scotty Doesn't Know" song ,hahaha very similar 😁🤘🤘
I just waited for your review in this mr heavy tone 😊
A correction to your comments: i use the 90 as an interface clocked to a 96k DAW. At 96k you still get all 4 channels and there is no impact on available dsp. A note, i am using 48k ir’s in this setup.
Sounds legit!
I used to use a boss sy-1000. Had the same 1000 series modelling but with some features removed and synth capabilities added. I find it interesting what boss decide to incude and exclude in their various products (gt-1000/core, sy-1000, gx100, me-90, gigcaster etc...)
Never had much complaints sound wise, especially their own stuff like the x-modded stuff, but what seriously upset me was the lack of support. Their updates, even for the flagship gt series seem to be slowing down. For my sy-1000, I couldn't connect it to my Mac, despite waiting over half a year and boss releasing a new product (gigcaster) at the time. It was like they didn't bother providing necessary drivers for the older stuff, but made some for their new products. I did get drivers in the end after contacting customer support, but its upsetting nonetheless. I wish they had the same mindset and support as companies such as Line6 and others.
Anyways, great sounds as always Jon.
Still loving the boss me 80
Going to upgrade eventually though..
Great demo! Sounds pretty good, looks like a nice all-in-one option for some players. I have a GT1000 core that I use for my effects into a tube amp, works great and keeps my pedalboard compact. But... what I really want to see is your demo of the Orange OR30! :D
awesome
I'm thinking I might pick one of these up in the next few months. The integrated expression pedal is a huge selling point, even if the tones lack some of the refined touches you'd find in a Quad Cortex or something. I've never used effects pedals before, so this seems like a good starting point. Thanks for the great review! Do you have an affiliate link that gives you a kickback? I'd buy through that. Edit: Also that 8-string song was pretty sweet
Thanks! The ME90 definitely is a great starting point for effects, highly recommend it for that! No affiliate links I'm afraid
Oh man....I started back then with the ME 70. Great unit. I regret selling it.
Then upgraded to the ME 80. That was another great unit But I liked the sound of the ME 70 better.
The my final acquisition was the GT-100.
I'm sold with that one....+ a few stomp pedals.
And yes, you can gig with them 🤘
Sick.
everything you touch turn to gold.
Between this, the GT1000 core and the boss ME90 which is a better option in terms of:
- getting an almost mix-ready sound that I can directly plug into an audio interface to play /record
- getting a great sound when connecting it to a PA speaker (not an amp) if I intend to go ampless on stage
Ook ooit een ME-50 gekocht. Blijft nog altijd een goede backup, denk niet dat ik hem zomaar weg zou doen.
To me it looks like the fixed the biggest problem with the gt1000 series, all the deep menu diving 😂 nice video dude 💪
Dude u need to do a vid on it I wanna see how it sounds for drop tuned stuff and through a cab
Cheers dude!
Still I kinda want them to make me1000 now
Fantastic review man! Not to crazy about the clean tone since I found it was lacking on high end (maybe some eq from the unit could fix that or selecting another IR?) but the crunch and high gain tones were insane. BOSS should hire you to make demos of their products
I would think it’s the pickups in this instance, Fishman Moderns have super, super dark cleans if you don’t compensate with EQ
🤯
I always compare our amps and what we have. I don’t have any orange, and sold all my Deizels. But I’m jealous you have a white Red Seven. I have the black one. Im just a nobody lol. Do you have the MLC V VOGG or the Silenoz 93? The spikes on that thing are legit! You’d be hurtin if you dropped it on you! Anyway, just foolin. Late at night and watching your vids 😊
I still Have ME-50 awesome live unit, still kicks ass😅 nyt this thing has got My intrest For few cababilities that it keeps in... First of all drop tuning, i Have 3 differend guitar and use mostly D# and DropC and E standard so instead of swichin between 2 guitars this gives me chance to swich tuning easy wit no sweat😂
Best pedal board in the world.. Limited to only choice of best sounding FX from bigger brother, but in my opinion more is less. Best thing is that it have knobs instead of dumb menus and touch screen. Turn a knob instead of ranting through menus. Thats all needed. With IR loader this think is pure LOVE!
That riff is amazing!!!! What song is that????
Just my own music
PS - can you also list out the settings in the ME90 you got to get this rad modern rock tone in the beginning??
Hi, Jon,
Did you perform any post-eq of guitar tracks in DAW (apply high-pass/low pass filters etc.) for Hard Rock Demo? Or you just loaded a custom IR into the ME-90 than made a double track and that it? Thanks
Just the IR
Got one here... really nice to just dial and mess around with computers, menus, plug-ins
When I see a "does X sound good" from you, I already know the answer. You can make even a tin can sound good.
It sounds good. How many guitars have you overdubbed? 4? 8? I can't believe it's only one
2
Sounds awesome, but why no MIDI?
Hello there! Thank you for this review! Can you give me your opinion on Boss's COSM vs AIRD tech. Can you , as a player feel the difference in how it responds to your playing dynamics? I want to understand if there is considerable difference between boss GT1 (COSM) and Boss ME-90 (AIRD), in how it responds to your playing..
La BOSS GT-1 es una bestia. Seteala bien y te dara unos tonos increibles.
I liked your approach, does it doom tho?
Sure! :)
Should i get boss gt100 or boss me90.
Is boss me90 being a newer modeller superior to boss gt 100?
Boss gt 100 comes in around same and even less than new boss me90 in terms of cost. Im looking forward to get one for live stage shows. Big stage shows. Not gigs
Can this do like a designated patch for each footswitch?
I had an ME-50 in the early 2000 also.
Good times :)
@@SonicDriveStudio I think my friend still uses it.
Metal preset on it sounded better than both MetalZone and MetalCore pedals😂
Imo it's how you win at gear. Old boss is still good, it's cheaper, plentiful, but don't got slick ads or youtubers pushing it (expect some). I say all this but, when I was young, I had to try to get what the rockstars had. I'm no different just, learned over time. It all has a use, pick it up cheap.
Really wish someone would do a demo of these type of devices through a pa system to see how fizzled out or not fizzled out they sound that way
I work at GC and not one customer in 2 years has come in wanting to demo any devices through a daw
Most are tube amp drooling gas afflicted want to hear how it sounds through real speakers kind of folks
This doesnt indicate anything useful to me in how this thing could be used live which is pretty ridiculous because the pedalboard style layout of this unit would indicate to me its ideal for live but it aint looking like thats the case
I just want to play guitar sometimes without having boot up a computer setup everytine i want to just grab a guitar and rip into a sesh
😢
Can't believe this has a PC software and the Headrush units are still waiting for implementation.
I can understand why HR hasn't bothered, but yeah, it'd be nice to have.
Would this pair good with something from the Amped series?
Yo man ! Vu le matos que tu as et à voir tes vidéos tu vas pas me faire croire que tu utilises le boss ? Un headrush ou line 6 etc ok mais la ???
Tell me why ?
Business maybe
i like my me80 more than the gt1000 i had. this looks nice, but is it worth an upgrade?
Good question, I haven't compared the 2
To me, the 80 is thicker sounding for my tastes.. I haven't spent as much time on the 90 yet but I will be grilling it for the next few weeks to see if I can justify keeping it or moving into the HX platform@@SonicDriveStudio
@@MartinLutherMcCoy update?
@@leviyambao5575 it’s amazing. For what all it does (like fx loop/daw integration via usbc /IR loading plus all the custom patches available and customizability not to mention the tones!!!!!!) it’s a no brainer -KEEPER
is it better than Line 6 Pod Go? there no such a single comparison video on youtube.
Would you suggest plugging into front of the amp or 4 cable.....I'm not tech savy so sorry for the stupid question....
4 cable
So with this type of unit, do you just play it through any amp set to clean channel?
Any way you like
I wanna see this into a amp, or into the effects loop.
this! 4cm! ❤ planning to grab one for my engl fb25, so that i wouldn't be spending to much on analog pedals 😂
Wasn't really crazy about the high gain tones.... they seemed to lack a little depth and an "organic" quality and fullness so to speak, but loved the clean JC120 amp and the modulation, reverbs and delays were gorgeous. I think it would sound killer running a real tube amp head with the time based effects from the Boss.
How does it compare to NUX Trident for Metal Rhythm?
I personally prefer the Boss
What's an IR?
i cant get even nearly these tones from mine. my distortions sound plastic and the preamps dont sound good
Owo😮
I bet he's capable of making a Zoom 505 sound good...
me90 shits on any zoom product zoom is the lowest grade
BOSS ME-90 vs NUX MG-30. Any idea which is better?
First time buyer here.
Hey jon do u know dewa 19 from indonesia ?
😂😂😂
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🥴
I wish he would play without the other instruments to really appreciate the guitar sound.
I like the GX 100 better.
Mine sounds a bit … thin! Using it via effect loop on my amp. Any recommendations?
Mine sounds fizzy and somewhat too digital. I have 6-7 truly boutique sounding tube amps that just kill. I was hoping to get rid of most of my 100 pedals, keeping the doz. or so main keepers. Plugging into any of my amps means the digital thinness just takes over. The patches are mostly sonically useless novelty stuff that no one could want. Instead 3000 of useless ones, how about 6-10 sounds anyone could be happy with. I'm now thinking this is just a cheaply made box Boss can sell 2 million of and call it a day.
What does IR mean?
Impulse Response
@@SonicDriveStudio thank you! I understand English but some technical words I don't know.
Cheers.
Scotty doesnt know?
Who?
Why are the developers of amps and processors allowing the downloadable content on google products? Like the Chromebook? Makes it a real pain in the #$%
I have a feeling this guy could plug his guitar into a potato and it would come out sounding great.
Uf.... No soy amante de los tonos tan Drop...
Why do you have an american accent if yo're european?
Mine does not sound like that, not that good!!!
