And that's with them being friends for more than six years, too. 😄 They were actually having lunch together when they both learned at the same time they were each getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 🤩💞
Lin Manuel Miranda put out a video of him live reacting to this for this first time and he was actually happy crying. It's totally worth a watch as well, even if you don't do a reaction of it. ;)
Scrolled just to find or post this myself. If you like this, you absolutely MUST watch Lin-Manuel's reaction video. The absolute tears of joy and unrestrainable bouncing energy on Lin-Manuel's face is like a dopamine fix.
Lin went on late night with Jimmy Kimmel and they totally geeked out with Weird Al and jimmy played a clip with both their reactions which were remarkably similar. Both are mega fans of Weird Al and for him to have Hamilton done was better than all the awards he won for the play. There are 14 to 15 songs from the play in that medley.
Al (and his band) are great, versatile musicians. I feel like that gets lost a lot of the time just because they do comedic songs, but things like this really show how much effort they put into their music and why Al is still relevant after nearly 40 years.
A few tours ago Kimo broke out into Purple Haze! He's had the same keyboardist since running with scissors the album his name is Ruben his drummer was in the original TV appearance and is like his archivist of footage for essentially the weird Al brand if not the person but like in a biographer's sense

To me, Weird Al is one of the greatest musicians of all time. His ability to create fun, funny, and enjoyable music from both good and bad originals is simply phenomenal. I've been hooked on his music since I first heard him in the early 90s.
He came on tour to my town on 2019 and apparently walked by our offices(which have a street facing Star Wars, Harry Potter and Mario rooms) and the people sitting near windows didn't even react to him looking into the rooms. So many were disappointed nobody tried to invite him in to see our offices.

Some of my favourite Weird Al songs are Word Crimes, Tacky, White and Nerdy, the Saga Begins, Amish Paradise, Fat, and Lasagna. Some of those may be fun to review.
Lin-Manuel was a guest on Conan O'Brien's podcast early on. He's a big Weird Al fan, and said he knew a lot of Weird Al parodies before he ever heard the originals. The cadence you note at around 4:40 is performed by Daveed Diggs on the soundtrack and in the original cast. That bit comes from "Guns and Ships" if you want to react to it.

I relate to this so much..The polka version of wrecking ball by miley Cyrus gets stuck in my head all the time. I don't even like that song 😭
Definitely
It definitely made me realize that there are a lot of songs that are well-written, I just can't stand how they're produced and/or performed.
Weird Al makes me truly appreciate Polka as a genre
I reckon you'll also enjoy Bohemian Polka next to this one, then you can listen to the rest of his polka medleys of then-current songs, he made one for 12 out of his 14 albums iirc
The greatest con job is most people think of Al as "the funny song guy" but longtime fans know he's a 💯 legit musician.
In terms of sheer versatility, there may be no artist in music history who surpasses his (and his band's!) talents.
Yep, this was so amazing Lin-Manuel Miranda decided to make an entire Broadway show about it.
NO lyrics were changed or harmed in the making of this polka.
I've been a big fan of weird AL since I was a kid in the 80's. He is a really talented man. It is awesome to see you enjoy his works for the first time.
Listen to ANY of his polka medleys. They are all great.
There is a cut song from the musical where Lin wanted to do a song about Ben Franklin and he pictured it as an American sort of style song and got the Decememberists to do it - I recommend that song
Bohemian Polka is probably the most brain breaking of these.
So good.
Hamilton is a masterpiece, and so is The Hamilton Polka! By the way, the song you want to hear Al cover is "Satisfied."
Did you say you want to give Al the "clap"? Coz that's really weird man!!!!
If you want something interesting, check out "Saga Begins" and then check out the lore about the songs existence.
