    I think there's sometimes a tendecy to underestimate Delenn. She's all smiles, she's a member of a religious cast, she's a diplomat... and you forget she's a _member of the Grey council_ . She'll try peace when possible, but if not, she's definetly the kind to crush the enemy as fast and as hard as possible, no mincing about.

    • @TheMerovingienne
      @TheMerovingienne 2 года назад +5

      It's all Delenn too; *she* is her own influence. Religious caste doesn't mean they don't have their own warships. The castes fought each other *before* Valen's DNA became part of the mix.

      She's (was) not only a Member of the Grey Council - She is the one who would have become the next Chosen One. But she is the only Minbari in history that rejected that offer.

    There's a behind the scenes story that when they filmed the Drakh emissary, the costume and mask looked kinda silly on camera, so they added the phasing effect in post-production to distort the image, and it looked a lot better!

    • @sdfried4877
      @sdfried4877 2 года назад

      Much like the Zarg, the costume looked great in still photos but in motion, it looked terrible. They ended up having to obscure both costumes in different ways.

    • @orthochronicity6428
      @orthochronicity6428 2 года назад

      I believe part of it was that they couldn't get the mask to not look like just a mask, and told the actor playing the emissary to act like he was phasing. They didn't really know what that should mean and couldn't give the confused actor anymore clarity, hoping that it would work out in the end when post production got the footage and the description that the emissary should be phasing.

    I think of the Minbari religious caste as Shao Lin warrior monks IN SPACE. We've seen before that Lennier was highly trained in martial arts as a novice in temple. And the worker caste have their own fleet of warships too. Basically it's only a matter of emphasis between the castes, but ALL the Minbari are more than capable of kicking your ass :)

    Excellent reaction and observations, as always.
    "Never forget who I was, who I am, and what I can do." Delenn in a nutshell. Mira's delivery is perfect!
    The moment Delenn realizes what was going on with the Drakh is quite chilling.
    Her reaction is showing the other side of "do not forget what I can do!" :
    "End this!" - and they did.
    Her speech to Sheridan at the end shows that she understands him better than he does himself.
    Ivanova's reaction to the proposed news outlet is a lot of fun. But yes, if anyone can do it, she can.
    Interestng that you would compare the Drakh emissary to a Dementor. So were the dementors modelled after this. Maybe not.
    Interesting observations. I cannot say if they are right or wrong, because "spoilers!" .
    Be seeing you!

    • @jeffburrell7648
      @jeffburrell7648 2 года назад +6

      I have always thought that the out of phase look showed that the Drakh were evolving along the lines of the Shadows. The Shadows were invisible unless they wanted to be seen and the Drakh were in a middle ground where they were not yet invisible but they blurred their form to make it more difficult to see them.

    Aside from this episode being another crowning moment of awesome for Delenn, I love the tiny worldbuilding bit of interlac. No universal translators here: When you encounter another species you send them files in a (probably artificial) simplified language, I'd assume with things like images or computer codes so they can connect them with their own words. That allows for at least basic communication until you can properly exchange data files to allow for machine translation or get a bilingual individual on board. I'm not sure on the details, but love that idea.

    It's just occurred to me that this isn't the first time we've seen a Drakh.
    In season 3's "Ship of Tears" they wheel in the body of the pilot on a gurney. They'd committed suicide and the body was too badly burned to identify but if you look closely at the head that's revealed, it's definitely a Drakh (which would also track as they're servants of the Shadows).

    3:51 "Rare as gold" _has to_ be just a figure of speech in the Babylon 5 canon. As soon as Earth cracked open the first metallic asteroid it came across, gold would be readily available.
    It's kind of like how aluminum metal was extremely rare and valuable back in the days before electricity. Soon as we figured out how to refine it, it became a cheap but nonetheless useful metal.
    Cheap gold would be used in everything as electrical conductors and as a protectant against chemical reactions.

    • @shadowphoenix1696
      @shadowphoenix1696 2 года назад

      That would be true.
      But you got think that this was the 90s and writers when writing a story tend to be thinking 10 years behind the current time, sometimes they can think ahead but not always.
      For example watching from modern prospective we know thar B5 would loaded down with CCTV in every corridor and most if not all rooms.
      Down below CCTV will probably be out of commission for obvious reasons and CCTV in the private rooms would only be viewed if an incident happened.
      It would be interesting to see how the remake will be down with all the new modern tech and understanding of the universe. If it every gets done.

    One thing I like about this show is that things don't always just tie up neatly. Of course the Shadows would have allies who still have goals and motives and lives. War leaves power vacuums, mess, mines, waste, damage, debris, and above all survivors.

    • @shadowphoenix1696
      @shadowphoenix1696 2 года назад

      Yeah, I like that.
      It's a shame we don't get that too often with stories with war. Its usually fight eventually win by the skin of there teeth, big celebrations the end (sometimes it just ends without the celebrations).
      And if we do come back to that universe there's either a big time jump or telling a different story far removed from that part of the universe.
      Star wars
      Star trek DS9
      COD modern warfare
      Gears of War
      Avatar the last airbender
      Just to name a few and all of them could've had interesting aftermath stories.
      I know are games but a DLC would've been nice.
      Also not including books just the mainline stories, people shouldn't have to read books to know what's going, if they want to then good for them.

    One thing I've noticed these past two episodes - the Shadows influence and how pervasive they got was much larger than anyone suspected.
    Reminder- we now have seen the Keeper 3 times- on the Centauri PM, Captain Jack, and a future Londo.... Makes me wonder if they planted one on Cartagia and that's what drove him mad.....Also makes me wonder how many in Earth Gov has one...

    • @evenmoor
      @evenmoor 2 года назад

      Interesting thought. Personally, I think that they _didn't_ plant one on Cartagia because there was no real need to - he was already malleable in his madness. Londo's dialogue seems to indicate that his mental state has been a long-standing one. Cartagia just needed the appeal to his delusions of godhood, which the Shadows and their allies were more than happy to provide. As far as EarthGov, the Shadows were already working with a willing puppet in Clark, so again no need. There also can't be an abundance of these Keepers, else they'd be far more wide-spread.
