Dealer didn’t pay the Trips bet until you called her on it. What gives? Some time back, there was a monster flop playing UTH and you didn’t bet the 2X. Dealer didn’t alert you and she dealt on. She did allow you the constructive bet. not high level dealers on MSC. Regarding Dad’s not playing Trips, per Wizard of Odds the house edge is nearly 4% for the Trips table. Compare that with Element of Risk for the base game at 0.5%. Dad is conservative and is entitled to bet in his fashion.

Your dad is a smart man. I’ve played and kept track of Trips. Overall they are losers. You did have good days they will win but overall not so much. The only way I play is if I’m up on house money. Trips is a sucker bet. If you put 20% of your total, starting wager on trips versus putting 100% on ante/blind then, in the long run, you will end up with around 15% less-money-won/more-money-lost overall.
The only way to make additional money playing the trips is to selectively bet it and get bonuses while playing it at a rate of 175% higher than the average player.
