      I was in love with Peter initially, but as I got older, it was Davey all the way. I loved his sense of humor and how he didn't really take himself that seriously. He just did what he enjoyed, and was always so awesome to his fans. I haven't heard a single horror story about meeting Davey Jones. Plus I think he was definitely the best singer out of the 4.

      @@AJAXKID123 Mike is AWESOME!! He was definitely the most talented songwriter of the bunch, and one of the best musicians. Mike is a great singer, too, but I think Davy has a better rock'n'roll voice than Mike (he screamed REALLY great -- Mike couldn't do that), and I just like the texture of his voice much better. Mike's voice was more soulful for sure. When I first was introduced to them, I loved Peter the most, but at this point it's Davey. It's really his sense of humor, the fact that he could laugh at himself (he always was the butt of the short jokes), his respect for his fans, his humility, his lighthearted attitude, and how refreshingly uncomplicated he seemed to be. Mike's ego got to me after a while. Plus Davey was the best dancer....and he always looked great....well, except for the brief mullet period in the 80s. Actually Mike still looks pretty good, especially for his age

    The Monkees were literally a "made for TV" musical act sometimes called, "the Prefab Four" (playing on the Beatles "Fab Four" moniker). Made up of two actors who could sing (David Jones and Mickey Dolenz) and two actual musicians (Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith) they actually had a couple of decent hits. The bloke you saw dancing in this video was David "Davey" Jones, the only English one of the group. If you are interested in exploring more of The Monkees here are a couple of suggestions for you:
    "Pleasant Valley Sunday"
    "Last Train To Clarksville"

It seems all he really wanted to do was entertain people, while the other 2 were more concerned with their own musical visions

    • @MRoyClark
      @MRoyClark 3 года назад +2

      @@timebandito4278 Yeah, Davey saw himself as an entertainer and the other guys saw themselves as genius *artistes* with important things to say. None of them were necessarily wrong, but it would have been great if they had navigated the middle ground between their Kirshner stuff and their overly indulgent later stuff, because their initial run was frightfully short. The fact that they started out as a parody of The Beatles became immediately complicated as The Beatles became impossible to keep up during a time of rapid cultural change. I suppose if they were still trying to release stuff like Day Dream Believer in 1971, they would have definitely been seen as over the hill anyway. Maybe it's best they burned so bright and lasted such a brief time.
      And yeah, lil Davey was one of my first crushes, too.

    • @timebandito4278
      @timebandito4278 3 года назад +1

      @@MRoyClark I agree. I call him Broadway Davey. He really was a great singer and dancer. Very gifted, and I think he just enjoyed sharing his talents with the world.
      I heard him in an interview talking about "Head," and he said that he'd wished they'd done a movie like "Ghostbusters" or some "fun Monkees movie." He just didn't think "Head" was the right project for them. I do think if they had done a more lighthearted film, it would have worked, and they might have even gone on to make more than one. Ya, wasn't the Monkees only on for like 3 seasons? I definitely think Davey was right on the money though.

    Five years ago, the (then) three surviving Monkees recorded a new album called Good Times on which they sung and played all the instruments. Davy had passed a while before and Peter has since.
    A lot of contemporary songwriters wrote song especially for that album but one of them was by Harry Nilsson.
    Even Davy was on the album as they used an old vocal track he recorded and played the music for it. My favourite track on it was Me And Magdalena. There are two versions of it. One is on the CD and a slower version is one of the extra tracks on a deluxe edition. I prefer the first one but both gorgeous.

    Ohhh... my beloved Monkees! Davy Jones, the lead singer on this hit tune, was the first love of my life! When I was between the ages of 4-6 years old, when their show was actually in production and a huge hit, I was so in love with Davy; I first learned to do a British accent because of him. I never stopped loving The Monkees, or Davy; I was fortunate enough to see them in concert live three times, after they experienced a revival of popularity back in the 80s, because MTV was showing the old series on their network. So wonderful. We lost Davy suddenly to a heart attack in February of 2012. My heart, along with thousands of others, was just broken. We lost Peter (the blonde, hippie-looking sweetie) in February also, seven years later. Thank heavens Micky and Mike are still with us. So talented, and so underrated. I strongly recommend that you react to some episodes of the series; some of them are here on RUclips. I think you might like them! Then, check out their trippy, one and only movie, "Head", which can also be found on RUclips. But check out the series that made them famous first.

    The Monkees were the best. I grew up watching their Television show and love their music. I was a bigger fan of them than of the Beatles as a pre teen. FYI, this song was written for them by Neil Diamond.

    I remember seeing the Monkees here in Utah in 1986. They were, in a word, spectacular! Here is a spinoff adventure for you [ if you want to take it] brought to you by the Monkees. It would be great seeing you do reactions to the following two songs. ''Gold'', by John Stewart [[ he wrote ''Daydream Believer'']] and ''A Different Drum'' which was done by Linda Ronstadt and the Stone poneys. ''A Different Drum'' was written by Mike Nesmith, of the Monkees.

    this was made for a musical section in the TV sitcom....they are faking it of course for the TV show and were left free to clown around, hey lets have Davy do his dance, etc. They did several songs in advance for the TV shows on this rainbow colored set. As a Tv show, these guys were hysterically funny, the fast camera style helped move the silly plot along...it was really a show for preteens but as an adult I still LMAO...the plots were totally clean comic book stuff, but sometimes we need that even now. The music was stellar. Daydream Believer was a Number #1 for them. Davy questioned the lyrics he had to sing and kind of said "What the hell does this mean? I don't get it?." He should have added "I'm even singing Oh what can it mean, even the songwriter doesn't get it..." they would have written that line into the show for laughs. HAHAHAH. check out the Monkees TV show to understand the whole thing better. PLus you'll LYAO. I feel sorry for you young people and all the fun you missed in the 1960's to 1985.

    Fun story. David Bowie's real name was David Jones, so to avoid confusion with the singer in The Monkees, he changed his stage and legal name to David Bowie.

    Ah, bubble gum music. I grew up on this music. Watched the Monkees on TV. You should check out Michael Nesmith's "Elephant Parts", and the TV series Television Parts. Some great music buried in those shows. Your's is a great reaction Jayy. My "Daydream Believer" connection. "Daydream Believer" is a song composed by American songwriter John Stewart, shortly before he left the Kingston Trio. I installed the satellite dish for John Stewart in Novato, CA. On the stairs going up to the MBR was the ORIGINAL Gold Record for "Daydream Believer" hanging on the wall. When I commented about it, he told me that song alone bought him a few houses. Peace Jayy.

    One bit of trivia: Davy Jones (lead singer here) was the reason why David Bowie is called David Bowie. David Bowie's real name is David Jones, but when he was starting out he didn't want to be confused with Davy Jones who was already known, so he changed his name to David Bowie.
