They don't usually attack humans cause they mostly eat berries and plants. They only eat meats when they're on special diet. I lived in Gobi for 2 years and i have seen lots of Gobi's.
Wow. I'm awe struck, I will personally aid my time in increasing awareness to this problem they face, and how to help. Tbh, I would love to be in this program myself.
An interesting fact about these bears is that they don’t prey on large mammals and usually target smaller ones like rodents and they eat a lot of vegetation
bokeflo - they haven't been able to 'save' tigers elephants, rhinos, and on and on, and those aren't living in barely accessible areas and have had billions of dollars poured into their 'salvation'. Good luck with these bears.
Gathering No Moss - Yes they have. The Siberian tiger, Amur leopard, and Asiatic lion were all critically endangered but bounced back greatly. The South China tiger is about to be rewilded after being extinct in the wild. The Bengal tiger numbers are increasing every year in India.

I feel so ashamed of myself that I did not realize that they were Bears and the Gobi desert of Mongolia. And makes me wonder all the other animals out there. I do not know about that are going extinct.
fun fact: gobi bears or mazaalai bears, are terrible parents. they will leave out their cubs for a few days, sometimes even weeks. they sit onto their cubs and won't even get up despite the cubs screaming in agony. they also don't let them have milk, the cubs only get access in secret. but they do teach them survival skills when they grow up tho.
It's an uphill battle... The closest success story, that I can think of, is the whooping crane. It had a population around 21 in 1938, and now it has 599 in 2011.
keep in mind there is a genetic cliff moment. but there is a way out of it. given careful husbandry . the problem with beers, cats, and a lot of predator species is they learn a lot from there parents it isnt all instinctive survival
Yes but they will probably see some issues from having a such a small gene pool. There was a species of bird that survived from just one pregnant female.
There were only 18 Asiatic lions in 1982. Now there are nearly a thousand of them. So yes, its enough. It would probably be tougher for these bears to survive though as they live in a desert where food is scarce.
what i would like to know is how gobi bears handle this heat. usually, bears dislike heat and always seek for water to cool down themselves a little. i know that in the gobi desert there are no really deep waters, moreso some tiny rivers and from humans already used oasis. so, what does this bear do? is there a way for them to get to water still? or to cool down overall?
They travel 30-40km to drink water. They are almost vegetarian. They eat mongolian medicinal plant. They are very important to ecosystem. They are very kind. They protect other animals.
Animals have been going extinct for millions of years, species will always go extinct. Although humans increase the number of animals that are becoming extinct.
This bear only lives in Mongolian Gobi desert so not many people have heard of it. Their numbers were always very low. First found around 1920 ,there were less than 50 during 60s, 30 in early 90s. Last update from 2018,there were 28. But only 3 out of that 28 are female!!! Compare it to 22000 polar bears and 1400 pandas. At least polar bears and pandas have some chance but this bear is probably gonna go extinct in coming 12 years. I mean only 3 females left. Not much chance to survive.
@@aishwaryasingh6859 they usually take care of injured ones. And they don't actually keep those bears, they keep them in the wild. Sometimes the locals give them berries or meats
There's multiple things that go on after trapping. Take its measurements, tag and/or collar it for future use (mostly used on dominate males and healthy females), and finally make sure it's in good overall health. After you're done you leave it and remain in the area till the sedative wears off to guarantee its safety.
In the late eighties l spent 22 months in that same location, we had to shoot 3 bears during are time there because they would invade are camp, 2 colleagues and myself were there studying the desert beetle.
Did YOU not invade their habitat? And who asked you to "study" any beetles, you killed 3 very rare bears so you could feel safer, instead of staying away from them to begin with.
No its not. China is helping you guys. 3 weeks ago they helped fund the bear preservation program. How well known is the Gobi bear among Mongol people?
We must stop slaughtering them for sport. Animals have relationships. Hope they can be saved. We have black bears where I live. Do not bother them and they will not bother you
Sounds sensible, but bears who haven't been acclimated to that environment would not survive. The North American Grizzly is a forest animal and a good part of it's diet is fish. European brown bears are similar in habitat and diet.
They're genetically distinct from other subspecies of grizzlies. And grizzly bears with different genetics to them won't survive in that habitat. Introducing their genes to the gene pool of the Gobi bear will hurt the genetic pool of the Gobi bear that was specifically adapted to the desert environment.
If they are so rare and they look just like any grizzly then why not build up the population by bringing more bears in this one they caught doesnt look any different then a north American brown bear, its the same spiecies, so maybe to add to the gene pool they could bring in bears from North America. just a suggestion, that may be the answer to saving them, its like I said, they dont look any different, and inbreeding is not good for a limited population it can create genetic problems that could hasten their demise.
God damn it tell me what u doing to save the bears cos all I seen so far is you capturing one even though is highly endangered. What are u doing to them ?
Yeah, I wish they explained more on what they're doing. They may just be getting data about the bears. Like length, sex, or even tagging some? I only know of this because I used to do that sort of thing with coast horned lizards. I'm pretty sure after getting information, they release them.
