Size played a huge difference in this fight and it was a great disadvantage for Demetrious Johnson. DJ fighting guys bigger and taller than him has always been tough for him.
I thought the shot was illegal but learned the rules are not the same as the UFC.. glad some of you clarified that on here for me! Great fight can’t wait to see the re match
Props to DJ for pushing the pace. It's hard to close in on a longer fighter who has good movement. He just got caught coming in too fast and there's also different rules like knee on ground.
@@shindavid6484 If Moraes was heavier than DJ during the weigh-in, this fight wouldn't even happen. Think of it as something like Jon Jones vs Cormier. If you'll watch their first match, Jones looked A LOT bigger than Cormier, but in terms of weight, they're just as heavy as each other (205 lbs).
For some reasons I like this knee to the grouded fighter. There is high risk but fighter won't just deliberately be downed to save themselves from knees when they are loosing.
Me personally I feel like if you don’t participate in at least amateur level mma you shouldn’t have a say so on what should be legal, why you wanna see people get hurt even more
One problem I see was that DJ wasn't setting up leg kicks with the jab. He started doing it second round, but he could've slowed him down of he did it earlier.
Nah man. With a much bigger opponent you want to attack the lead leg first to set up the jab. It's very difficult to fight a guy who is 20lbs bigger and much longer. To start with the jab is very risky. It's better to start with low kicks which keep you out of danger ,)
If a guy has longer reach than you his legs presumably would be too. That means you're still in reach of getting kicked. Beyond that you're also very easily countered with a check which has caused a lot of injuries in the ufc. Also note that throughout the fight his opponent was circling away from him meaning he wasn't in fear of getting hurt as much playing ok the inside since his opponent didn't want to engage as much. Even on a theory level fighting a larger, longer reach opponent dictates you try to work your way in, because your opponent gets free hits on the outside with a longer reach. The jab, when in range, is the least likely to be counted because it's the fastest attack, exposes the least amount of yourself, and can easily be faked.
Ever since I saw Aljamin Sterling “win” a fight by baiting an actual fighter to knee him in the face by planting his hand on the ground while exposing himself to get wrecked, I’ve wanted knees and kicks to opponents on the ground
@@casuallycovered2437 no u shouldn’t. DJ coulda dropped down to 125 in one if he wanted 🤷🏼♂️ but he said he feels better at 135 even if he is fighting bigger people
@@DarkOps2442 Bro Conor is 155 at best. He only fought at welterweight arbitrarily. Plus when he was a featherweight it’s not like he was fighting dudes much smaller, just shorter. Here DJ is tiny in comparison.
I think knees to the head of down opponent is fair game. It adds another dimension to the offensive and defensive ground game, and actually gives strikers a chance against a good grappler. DJ, by getting up so quick and handling it like a champ, shows that it's no more dangerous than being KO'd any other number of ways - Hell Ben Askren showed us that when he got FLYING knee'd by Masvidal into the shadow realm.
Reasons why ufc doesn't do it is becuz it'd give wrestlers more of an advantage to be even more dominant! And u kno wrestlers are not what sells so hence why Dana will never change that rule! Wrestlers can just knee tf outta opponents while they're on top in total control!
Problem was the rule change from ufc to one fc , also they're a weightclass apart under American mma weight cutting . Anyway that knee is illegal in the unified mma rules Demetrius has faught under for his entire career. Not that he didn't get dropped with a good uppercut but he would have absolutely recovered . Adriano is damn good too tho. rules also make fights along with styles .
