In all my teaching years especially male students would hold the door. I always smiled and said thank you, I appreciate it. Same out and about… There are a few people who get on their high horse. To me it is just a sign of a good, decent upbringing. Thank you to ALL who still care about others!❤️
As a father of two boys (8 and 6), people that weren't raised southern, don't know the struggle. My boys will hold every door open and say yes sir/ma'am to anyone the talk to but it ain't easy....it takes thousands of "what", "you mean sir", "sir" to get them where it's natural....same way with being polite to everyone...been teaching them that it doesn't cost a penny to be nice to someone, but it may be worth a dollar to who you were nice to
Working in medical field for 35 years. Hugged every Veteran that I met. Even if they are grumpy or angry a smile and a soft touch can change a person's mood. Risk being offended, be yourself and be kind, you never know what others are going through. ❤
This song was written by Lori McKenna for her children. She sent it to Tim and he worked with it and reached out to Oprah to see if he could use some footage from her video and she loved the idea. It is one of the best songs I have ever heard!!😀❤
I cry every time I hear this song and the video does a great job pushing the humble and kind theme. We definitely need more kindness in this world. Have a great day!
You are right about holding the door for people, which I always do. Some people rush past you without a thank you, they act like it was your job to hold the door for them.
Moving to Arizona from Oklahoma and Texas many years ago, I was hit with a culture shock. I could not understand why everyone was so unkind. Here, when someone holds a door for you, you automatically know they are most likely from out of state. We had been in Arizona for quite a number of years when we had to make a trip back home. I didn't realize how accustomed I had become to the hatefulness and rudeness of the people here. Also, just a bit bitter. We drove through New Mexico and experienced pretty much the same attitude there as we do in Arizona. (Actually worse. I try never to stop in New Mexico on my way through anymore.) But somewhere in West Texas, we pulled over at a convenience store. I made it to the door as a gentleman was just coming out. He immediately held the door for me, and did something I had not seen in years. He tipped his hat! I couldn't remember the last time I had seen that. He then asked how we were doing with a smile on his face. It actually took me back for a second. Inside the store, every customer was kind and helpful. And so was the clerk behind the counter. Me and my family sat in the car a bit stunned. One of my daughter's said, "that was really weird." She was young when we left Texas, so I had to tell her that it really was rather normal for Texas. Oklahoma was little different. It was a wonderful feeling, like a weight lifted. But the moment we returned to Arizona, that oppressive feeling also returned. But since that trip, I have made it a point to be as kind and respectful to people here as is possible. I can't believe that I ever allowed hateful people to counteract my upbringing. It won't happen again. Don't worry about those hateful people and don't let them stop you from being the best person you can be, just because they can't do that. Keep it up and you will discover there are indeed, others like you around.
Home school kid here. I just want to say, I am so thankful to my parents for the time and effort they put into my education. It wasn't the easy road but I am so thankful that they did it and so will your kids some day.
Tim's awesome & has a ton of great music. He has a really cool one that he did early in his career, called 'Don't take the girl' that has a cool story to it. Also, like this tune, there is another cool song by Luke Bryan called 'Most people are good' & it has some great lyrics too, similar message, but different, if that makes sense. Love you two. You're adorable.
Out of Tim's 20+ year career, he says this is his favorite song he has performed. I would have to agree that it is my favorite of Tim's, as well. I think the fact that it appears he and his wife, Faith, actually live this way makes it even more powerful. They were country's "it" couple for years and they could have so easily turned into complete jack-asses, but they never show up in the gossip as anything other than good, solid, down-to-earth, humble and kind people. (Although there was that time in 2000 that Kenny Chesney and Tim got arrested at their own concert because Kenny rode away on a sheriff's horse and Tim got into a scuffle with an officer in the incident. He's grown up a lot since then, lol.) Great reaction to one of my favs! ❤️
You said..."a lot of these things have been lost ..." its true. These are all lessons learned in what my mom always called "home schooling". Schools are there to teach reading, math, science, etc...but home schooling is even more important. It is a FAMILY's job to handle the home schooling. To teach manners, patience, values, respect, etc. So many dont do that anymore, and now we have generations with no manners, morals, or respect for themselves or anyone else.
I am a very old school fellow. I was brought up this way. I have tried to live the way our Lord has meant us to. Just remember there are those who will take advantage of your good heart, however you just have to move on past those and be who you were meant to be. God Bless
“My mom told me, it's better to trust people than to doubt them. She said that people aren't born with kind hearts. When we're born, all we have are desires for food and material things. Selfish instincts, I guess. But she said that kindness is something that grows inside of each person's body, but it's up to us to nurture that kindness in our hearts. That's why kindness is different for every person.” Fruits Basket. (Awesome anime, I think you guys would enjoy it. Has a lot of these quotable moments.)
🌺🌿 I absolutely love this video. How he incorporated all the different cultures and how each one is just as perfect and important as the last one. And then the words combined with all the humans, simply amazing🌺🌿
It is just plain courtesy here in Texas to hold the door for someone coming in or out , especially if it is a lady or the elderly or handicapped. If you don't then you might get a certain look from someone. It is just what we do here. Never disrespect your elders. This is part of that old charm of the south. I see someone struggling I ask if I can help although I am somewhat disabled. I can still do what I can. Actually when I first moved here I was taken back by folks waving when they drove by whether they knew you or not. It is still that way mostly in the country, maybe not so much in the city.
The situation she mentioned of the person being like "you don't think I can hold the door for myself". That speak to the fact that there is some insecurity within that person.
Here in the south it’s common for people to hold the door and to say please and thank you, at least in my little world. I’m sorry for anyone who doesn’t get to experience plain old common courtesy. Of course, we also say hello or how are ya when we pass someone out walking or bike riding or something
I had friends in high school knew I had a learning disability instead of making fun of me. They set me down and asked me what my dreams were to be I said a pilot and then said we are gonna you get there and they did . I am one of the few who had friends not make fun of me. and yes I am a piIot I got all my ratings up to commercial, band I also fly for the Air Force.
Well said folks. One of my favorite modern country songs not only for the true and wise lyrics, but also because it spits in the face of the lie that all country music is drinkin, cheatin, bad luck, dogs and trucks.
My husband always opens the car door for me. He walks close to the curb. Yes mam, please, thank you had been instilled in me from my youth. It’s not just a Southern thing. It’s the small things that matter.

Y'all are so cute! Tim McGraw's fantastic and he writes his own music Live like you Were Dying is a must-see!
I sing this song to my grandkids. Never too early to teach them
"If you have to tear people down to get to the top, the TOP won't actually feel like the top." Maybe one of the best quotes EVER!!!

One of the best songs in the past decade.
This song always brings me to tears and humbles me. And the video is spectacular and leaves me with a sense of wonder.

I am so proud that he is from my state of Louisiana
Beautiful.
Words to live by!
This was the song I picked to dance with my son at his wedding.

I still hold open the door. I still say thank you. I still say please

Such a good song. You guys should really check out Back When. Also by Tim Mcgraw. You won't regret it!!
One of my favorites! In today's world....remember these words.
🌎✌️
There's not a reaction anywhere on RUclips of tim McGraw's my old friend. Be the first to react to it
No lol
I Always hold a door or Say Please and Thank You
It’s kinda sad I was brought up to open and hold doors for people it sucks that my young generation isn’t like this anymore
Go back to the basics of common courtesy…Please, Thank You, Excuse Me, please, go ahead of me.
tearing those down in your way to the top leaves a broken foundation and your sure to fall back down and no one there to catch you
