Little note here: After listening back to the” happiness is a choice” line from what I said in the video, I realize now how hurtful that is to say and I am sorry for saying that. I should’ve worded it as “you have to work for happiness”. Mainly because you have to put in the work to improve yourself. I apologize for my poor wording and I promise to be very careful with my scripts in the future.
I think by that point when you said it, people already understand that it's what you meant (unlike self-absorbed people who uses it to undermine others' struggles) But big props to ya for having this much of self awareness! Wish you well!
The detail of Diane gaining weight while on antidepressants, it being a sign of her getting better, and her not being made the butt of the joke for it made me really happy
“Veteran viewers of Bojack like myself will tell you not to binge the show all in one sitting because it will depress the shit out of you” Me, a now veteran viewer who already has depression, who just spent this past week doing exactly that: 👁👄👁
I did not know the level of depression I had until I watched this show. I knew of the show for years but never sat down and watched it because i thought i was being hyped and no way it had that much depth. I tried binge watching it and realized i could not. I guess I have the ability to use introspective on myself a lot. While watching the series I was breaking examining myself. Sometimes I had to take 1-2 weeks breaks in between scenes. But im glad I finally watched the show. Now I'm getting therapy.
I never understood why people never like Diane. I loved her and found that I related to her the most both mentally and physically, and I found myself experiencing the mental struggles in real time while each season of the show was being released, and for the first time in my short 20 years of existence, I genuinely felt less alone because I would strive and aim too high and beat myself up when I fall even the slightest, the same way Diane expects from herself and everyone around her. This show made me realised how much I needed professional help at a time when I'm just beginning to figure my life out. I will never forget the feeling after watching Bojack Kills
It has to be misogyny mostly, imo. After all, she seems to be the only one who’s constantly said to be annoying because of her flaws, in a show that’s… about depicting those flaws. “She’s annoying because she can be hypocritical and self-centered!” Yeah, she’s flawed, and her arc is about working past that; how does that differ from any other character, and why does she so often get singled out for it?
I’m someone who doesn’t like to hate on characters because of little things, but Diane really has some flaws that bother me. I’m glad that you relate to her that’s what the show is about, I don’t necessarily hate her but I strongly dislike her. The only time I genuinely liked her was in Season 6 her storyline was just fantastic.
It's pretty obvious if you're not being willfully blind about it. Diane is a woman who has the damn nerve to actually complain about sexism and misogyny instead of taking all with a smile and casually shrugging it off. That makes her pretty hateable to a lot of people.
The reason why imo bojack horseman is one of the best shows is, that everytime I've re-watched it and I've grown it's different. Ofcourse the show is the same but as I grow and evolve so does my understanding of the show and it's themes. So not only is it a great show every re-watch is different.
I related a lot to BoJack and a lot of the cast. A truly well written show and a show that depicted depression so well, I've not seen anything like that. Seriously loved the video!
This was THE best bojack video I’ve ever seen. Deciphering this show is really hard but you nailed it. If you’re looking for more shows I’d recommend beastars. It has a really great story and some exceptional animation if you can get past it being kinda furry.
You did an excellent job! Bojack horseman will forever be one of my favorite shows, It really puts your life in perspective and makes you appreciate the small things in life
Dude, this is an excellent video that perfectly sums up why Bojack is my favourite show of all time. I’m gonna show this to my friends when I recommend the show to them.
I binged BoJack in a week and uhhh can attest to the depression effect. Luckily, the treasure trove of videos about it on RUclips are honestly life saving because it helps sort out all the emotions
peanut butter doesn't deal with it in a good way running away from his problems and putting on a happy face isn't a cure and wants unconditioned love because that's what he gives to others
That and he only gives conditional love himself. Like he will be told something is unwanted or possibly hurtful and he'll go forward and do it anyway and expect the person to forgive him right away and pretend like it never happened. Like he's resistant to the fact that they're angry he won't even let them be angry in peace, but when Diane forgets to call him after they've talked like three times in the same day he immediately is very short and rude with her. Like he's raised his voice at her for a lot of really stupid things over the course of their relationship but he doesn't like it when people get mad at him.
This is the Bojack video I would have made. Very cool. My interpretation is that Todd is putting one foot in front of the other, until he gets somewhere. Mr. PB looks similar, but is doing it to ignore his problems. Contrast the way Todd deals with discovering he is an Ace, compared to PB just refusing to figure out what is wrong with Captain PB. My favorite PB moment is when he tells Diane to come back home after disappearing for months. The fact that he just wants her back, no questions asked, is both the best and the worst thing about him. A you can probably tell, I have thoughts on the whole cast. But I just wanted to let you know that I have been looking for this kind of analysis on the main five, and this was excellent.
I swear you narrated the story of my life!!! 😳 I couldn't stop laughing 🤣😂😹😹🤣 accurate to a T! I just shared this with my friends and family. Thank you!!! 🥰🥰
about the belle room, I completely disagree with the idea that they're both right and wrong, simply because what mr peanutbutter did WASN'T very thoughtful. He and Diane had been toghether for years at this point, and he should have known she wouldn't have liked it. You should know your partner well enough to know and understand these things about them. Had he put ANY thought into it at all he would never have had the belle room made in the first place, and the fact that he did shows he doesn't listen to her. Diane isn't offended that he didn't ask her first, she's upset that her husband doesn't respect her. That's what the argument is about. She's not ungrateful, PB is being disrespectful.
Peanut butter is a optimistic nihilist. I wanted to hate him in the first season but juxtaposed to Bojack made me realize he was the one closest to having it all figured out. In a way that totally escapes me which is why I related to Bojack more. That of course shifted in later seasons.
i know i'm late to this video but hearning the persona soundtracks in the background, it would be cool if you made a similar video on your favourite persona game, ofc they aren't as deep as bojack but they're interesting to explore in video essays like these, regardless, love the video, the show has a way of speaking to audiences in both positive and negative ways
This was great. Ugh I love Bojack so much. Imo the greatest show ever made, period. Also thanks for making me want to replay Persona 4 haha, the soundtrack for that game slaps.
I don't think Bojack was too blunt in your example! There's a lot of times where he is being blunt because he doesn't care but I genuinely think because of having a similar experience that Diane would have pinballed between talking to the family being furious and not talking to them and then going back again back and forth for years. Cutting them off was a really good step in her finding herself. I think that was like genuine love right there, him not being concerned about how she was going to take it and guiding her out of a really s***** situation that she was over invested in. I think on some level Bojack does love her maybe and if anything that was an example of it, and it's similar to how guy mentions that she likes punishing herself. Overtime she realizes that she doesn't have to suffer.
One thing I just noticed in regards to the "F" bomb... Hollyhock probably dropped it in her letter (since ofc, it signifies when a relationship is permanently severed). I feel like Season 6's "f-bomb" was just kind of a throwaway since it was said by some random nameless character in the only scene he appears in. It felt very underwhelming and inconsequential. This is probably why we never get to see nor hear the contents of her letter since the show already used the word. I like to think that Hollyhock was the one who *officially* dropped it. This would be very out-of-character for her, similarly to Todd, making her delivery of the word extremely shocking and sad. It would also help solidify why Bojack went completely off the deep-end in the final few episodes.
I _love_ it when people who were sad that one time completely disregard the fact that depression literally changes your brain chemistry. They probably also think people with schizophrenia "choose" to have delusions. "Health is a choice. If your body is riddled with tumors, it's because you didn't _choose_ to be healthy. You wear your sickness like a security blanket."
was it jim carrey? he's prolly crazy for real besides they've been trying to figure out for years if i'm faking being crazy. nobody knows, not even me. sometimes that's part of being crazy
I like Family Guy *because* the characters never change and consequences don’t really exist. It’s weak, escapist comedy, the opposite of BH, which is a wholesale *better,* *funnier* show.
i don't know why you say typical adult animation like that. if you think bojack is the deepest shit ever then you ain't seen moral orel. adult animation is practically the only thing worth watching. sure, family guy sucks, but if you think that's how it all is you're wrong.. dead wrong, or just regular wrong, but definitely wrong
Bojack is a show that people relate to on many personal levels. That's what makes it a good show. It might be good to, y'know, learn some empathy instead of being so rude to someone who was being vulnerable in sharing their story. I think giving the video a personal touch made it a lot better.
Little note here:
After listening back to the” happiness is a choice” line from what I said in the video, I realize now how hurtful that is to say and I am sorry for saying that.
I should’ve worded it as “you have to work for happiness”. Mainly because you have to put in the work to improve yourself.

Well done video. Opening scene = Topanga area? Or somewhere else around Los Angeles?
Thank you.

I will never trust someone who says they hate Princess Caroline.
agreed

Dude, this is an excellent video that perfectly sums up why Bojack is my favourite show of all time. I’m gonna show this to my friends when I recommend the show to them.
Great job, I'd love to hear your thoughts on other Netflix shows like Midnight Gospel, Voltron or She-Ra,
this video was beautifully written and actually made me tear up, thank you for sharing this
I binged BoJack in a week and uhhh can attest to the depression effect. Luckily, the treasure trove of videos about it on RUclips are honestly life saving because it helps sort out all the emotions
This is a great video, really makes me want to rewatch BoJack Horseman

Great video!!!! This might be weird but I thought to myself "this guy could pull off a sonic impression" and then the sonic soundtrack kicked in
"veteran viewers will tell you not to binge the show"
Me, who binged the show in my first watch: 😬

When you said karmas a fucking bitch I got shivers. The power in your voice when you said that was very nice
How the heck does this video only have 2k views? This video is incredible and your editing is top notch!
Can't wait to see your channel take off man. Super great video. Also props forvthe kingdom hearts 1 music 💯
love that you used music from Kirby's Epic Yarn
1:44 guess what I did one week ago? exactly, watched the show for the very first time in two days. I sure was an experience
I swear you narrated the story of my life!!! 😳 I couldn't stop laughing 🤣😂😹😹🤣 accurate to a T! I just shared this with my friends and family. Thank you!!! 🥰🥰

I’m like Diane and it’s just that pride and ego when it comes to truly answering for my faults
Peanut butter is a optimistic nihilist. I wanted to hate him in the first season but juxtaposed to Bojack made me realize he was the one closest to having it all figured out. In a way that totally escapes me which is why I related to Bojack more.

Dude you deserve to big so much bigger than you are. You are fucking awesome
I loved this video! Thank you so much for making it!
Binging this show was..... definitely a roller coaster lol
Also this whole video slapsss I thought it would have at least 50k likes
Dude this is good for just a channel with only 260 subs. GGs
Lol I love the persona music in the beginning
I realized I'm Diane, Beatrice, Bojack, Princess Carolyn, and Mr. Peanutbutter while watching this show and I love it.
WHY DID THIS VIDEO MAKE ME EMOTIONAL
i know i'm late to this video but hearning the persona soundtracks in the background, it would be cool if you made a similar video on your favourite persona game, ofc they aren't as deep as bojack but they're interesting to explore in video essays like these, regardless, love the video, the show has a way of speaking to audiences in both positive and negative ways

Also thanks for making me want to replay Persona 4 haha, the soundtrack for that game slaps.
I wish I knew that thing about not binge watching the show all at once before I got into it 😂
omg now I have to rewatch the entire show
this show is like the best thing on Netflix

Totally agree, everyone should watch this show.
Nice persona 4 in the background but also great video I love the editing
I like this video because it made me realize season 4 and 6 really threw away their f-bomb.
Incredible video :))
Well done video. Opening scene = Topanga area? Or somewhere else around Los Angeles?
shoutout to the persona 4 music !
Bojack is almost the only show keeping me subscribed to Netflix. Other than comedy specials and breaking bad.
Bojack Horseman is hands down. THE BEST NETFLIX ORIGINAL. No contest. No debating. It's just fax.
This is a great video🖤
1:49 wish someone would have told me that lol
You're welcome 😁
I put this on as like, food for thought background noise while I played ACNH...and then you use some AC gameplay music!!! Aaaa!
One thing I just noticed in regards to the "F" bomb...
Hollyhock probably dropped it in her letter (since ofc, it signifies when a relationship is permanently severed).

no, happiness isn't a choice.

Definitely more! 😊
This is not body horror this is not psihological horror this is emotional horror
I'm rly sad cuz I never realized the f bomb thing cuz I watched the show in German dub (cuz I'm German)
And they often left the f bombs out
Lol. When I watched T.V. as a kid they never used to censor cuss words in Spanish. Guess they didn't have a translator. They do it now 😏
And bojack ignored her stepfather sexually abused her
Duuuude! Please tell me you see what I see!?!? 😳 Skits.... VIRAL!
I mean, how many times has bojack done something ridiculous when he could have let it go?
was it jim carrey? he's prolly crazy for real besides they've been trying to figure out for years if i'm faking being crazy. nobody knows, not even me. sometimes that's part of being crazy
I like Family Guy *because* the characters never change and consequences don’t really exist. It’s weak, escapist comedy, the opposite of BH, which is a wholesale *better,* *funnier* show.
Do Midnight Gospel.
this video called me out many times and i don't like it
i don't know why you say typical adult animation like that. if you think bojack is the deepest shit ever then you ain't seen moral orel. adult animation is practically the only thing worth watching. sure, family guy sucks, but if you think that's how it all is you're wrong.. dead wrong, or just regular wrong, but definitely wrong
Ok that's your opinion
can you stop talking about your personal experiences? i want an analysis on bojack, not an analysis on your life. nobody cares.
Bojack is a show that people relate to on many personal levels. That's what makes it a good show. It might be good to, y'know, learn some empathy instead of being so rude to someone who was being vulnerable in sharing their story. I think giving the video a personal touch made it a lot better.
If that's your take on a Bojack analysis, you've never watched Bojack.
