    Great video and for those on the fence, all of this about the RE-320 is true.
    For me, RE-320 is the pound for pound best plug and play dynamic mic. You plug it in, turn on the kick drum mode if you want to sound extremely present with reduced vocal mud, and just start speaking. I remember buying an SM7B and really being deflated at the sound I was getting from the mic raw and even with a DBX 286S, I was not satisfied with the sound. I purchased the SM7B twice because I felt as I improved my gear, perhaps I could make the mic sound good. Yes, the SM7B is nice, but not that nice so I ended up selling it again. I ended up going to Sam Ash and they let me try multiple mics and for my budget at the time, the RE-320 became such an obvious choice. I think for most folks, it can be a forever microphone.

      Wish I had a place I could go get out mics and headphones too 😂 I find when you say you don’t like the 7b you get a lot of you need to do this and that with it. And like yourself I tried to like it with a lot of hardware and plugins. I stand by that with headphones, speakers and mics if you don’t like it from the initial listen you never will processing and eq is supposed to be subtle. When you went and tried the mics out did you try it vs the re20 would be interested in your opinion between the two

      @@thefullsetup I did in fact try it versus the RE-20. What won me over with the RE-320 was the kick drum mode. I love how punchy and in your face it sounds. Think about it, it removes the mud a wide frequency in the mud region (a bit too wide) but leaves the depth, but really makes you present (almost too present). My goal was to REALLY cut through a mix and the RE-320 did it better than the RE-20 did straight into the mixer (the Yamaha MG10XU). At that point, I wanted to just plug in and sound good. The RE-20 sounded good, but needed a lot of gain so I heard the background hiss and it just wasn't as bright (though significantly brighter than the SM7B).
      Knowing what I know today, it makes sense. The mics that we're most used to hearing are bright. Mic most used in a grammy award winning song, a TLM 103, bright mic. Microphone most used in VO commercials you hear on TV? MKH 416. Also a very bright microphone.

      I find it sounds a lot muddier with kick mode on.

    • @perfectalpha

      @@skorpers are you sure the mic is in kick drum mode and not the other way around? The kick drum mode is like a hard sale radio ad with no work. It is pretty clear. Maybe the device is defective. Who knows.

    • @skorpers
      @skorpers Год назад

      @@perfectalpha Yes I'm sure. The dip in the mids makes it sound pretty bad. For me the default is the "hard sale radio ad" I wouldn't recommend using the kick drum mode unless your voice was severely boxy or nasally or you were in a room with that sort of a boxy sound.

    One year later, I've come back to say that you were right. After trying many mics this one is right up there. The sound is excellent straight out of the box.The only issue is the size.

    I think we think very alike. I also went for the 320 as my main. Was torn between this and the RE20 and the Dyna. Upgraded or side graded however you may look at it from the Procaster. I set this mic to the kick setting and I have to EQ allot less than many other mics.

    This series of Variable D mics from EV are also great on brass. I have been playing trombone on RE20, and the results are really very good. This could perhaps be compared to some ribbon mics, which are also really great on brass.

    I love this mic for spoken word in Polish. It needs a bit of de-essing but it's able to express subtle differences between "sh-" and "zh-" (and similar) sounds.

    Don't put up with the youtube flak for the SM7B. All it does is cause people problems that wouldn't have existed with a different mic (even the RE320).

    Just got the re320 and is wondering what shock mount are you using?

    • @thefullsetup
      @thefullsetup  2 года назад

      So it’s rodes shock mount but to make it fit it’s a bit of a pain. You have to pop off rodes locking connector with a big screwdriver takes a bit of force. The. On the re320 the tiny metal pin where the included clip is either remove it or just push it in. Don’t worry it doesn’t effect xlr connection or prevent using Ev’s bug shock mount. Then to hold the mic in place I’m using a 25mm barbell clip. Bit of a task but I got the shock mount Amazon returns so paid £30 for the whole mount vs 120 on the official mount.

    This is completely off topic but I have a question about your camera lens.
    What lens are you using? I've been looking at the 35mm focal length but I understand that it's quite a close shot which is slightly putting me off.

    • @thefullsetup
      @thefullsetup  2 года назад

      This is actually at 35mm but it’s on a full frame camera just behind my monitor. I’m actually switching back to Sony apsc and I would have that set to about 20mm for the same sort of fov
