I have to make some small corrections though, for the sake of accuracy. Eustace, and his friend Jill, will not die in the train derailment. I'm reading the saga for the seventh time, and I know the last book by heart. given that they still had a mission to complete In the Narnia of the shadows, because they had to help King Tirian put an end to the coup d'état of some of his own subjects in cahoots with the Calormenians, Aslan decided to take the two young heroes from train before its derailment. In reality the two young people will never die, because CS Lewis based himself on the last stages and based himself on the apocalypse. and also on the Catholic belief, even though he was Anglican. because he was very struck by this passage: and again he will come In glory to judge the living and the dead... so, as you can see, not everyone who reached the real Narnia passed away. as a final clarification, I must correct the date of the train tragedy: it was 1949, not 1942. for the rest the video was very detailed and precise, I would like more insights on this character. about the relationship he had with Edmund, because in the book it is perfectly rendered. I'd like you to talk about Jill, Puddleglum the swamp, the beginning and the end of the Narnia of Shadows with two distinct and separate videos. It seems that I may have let my early interpretation of the train crash revelation cloud my perspective for decades! I think your correction is definitely a good way to understand what actually happened to Eustace and Jill on that train. There's a distinction between their experience of being sent to the shadowland Narnia, and the experience of the other seven friends who were sent directly to the true Narnia. I'm curious if you would say that the text isn't actually explicit here, but relies on some presumptions in either case? Thanks for your wonderful notes!

"before the train derailed we were picked up by Aslan and brought here to Narnia to help you." precisely because both heroes still had one last adventure in that reproduced land, it was fate that they would not die. Aslan also confirmed it in the sixth book, that next time they would be back to stay. but alive, because they had to purify themselves in the last battle to be worthy of the true Narnia. while for the other heroes, however, it was a completely different matter. their adventures in the reproduced Narnia were over, and to be worthy of the real Narnia they too had to purify themselves. but through death and resurrection. 😍 I hope I've been useful. 🤩

@@IntotheWardrobe sorry, I had to restart my phone because it crashed, now I'll try to rewrite the same answer as before again. on pages 27 and 28 of the last book of Narnia, Eustace says these words to the king: "I was looking out the window to see if I could spot them (he's obviously talking about the cousins), we were hit by a very strong push and we found ourselves here in Narnia, in front of your majesty tied to a tree." meaning that he and his friend arrived alive in the recreated Narnia, while the cousins felt pain when the train derailed. But they quickly found themselves resurrected into the real Narnia, of course. This is what I found in the Italian version. 🍀
Since I joined the community a couple years ago, I've been requesting a video on Eustace. Stuart my friend, you exceeded expectations and it is well worth the wait! One of my favorite parts of the story is when Aslan is clawing away at him. Makes me think when God delivered me from an alcohol addiction and He had to remove all the scales that had been covering me. Keep up the great work!
I know Narnia is supposed to be a symposium rather than an allegory, but that seem to me seems to be a fantastic illustration of being born again. We can try to clean up our lives and reform ourselves as much as we want, but only God can bring it true transformation and second birth. Hallelujah, and amen!

In Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Eustace is a foil character who's a prig raised by vegetarians who serves as a foil to the friendly and morally upright Pevensies. And he even calls his parents by their first names (Harold and Alberta); his parents are vegetarians, nonsmokers, teetotallers, pacifists, and wear an unspecified special kind of underclothes.
Eustace calls his parents by name because he has a very cold relationship with them, fortunately he is not a vegetarian and learns the moral values of rectitude and decorum.
I noticed several errors but I read the pinned comment and they were all adressed, so theirfor they do not need to be restated. Great video! I have grown to like Eustace, and along with Edmund, Lucy, and reepacheep, he is one of my favorite characters. I would really love to see Edmund and Eustace's relationship toutched on in another video. I love how they parallel each other! Plus, I just love Edmund so much, I will take opportunity to hear you talk about him, with Eustace as a bonus!
@Into The Wardrobe, The Silver Chair remains a favorite of mine out of most of the series because of how Eustace and Jill were portrayed as relatively normal kids, being authentically bratty a lot of the time. We see that this is both due to Eustace's weird upbringing and the horrible school that he and Jill attended, but for the most part, they weren't that different from many other kids. But I appreciate the fact too, that Aslan didn't come promising them a kingdom, they were just expected to obey Aslan for the sake of doing the right thing. And that showed tremendous maturity on their part.
Even though I haven’t read the books, I enjoy hearing about and learning more about Narnia. But whenever I try to say Dawn Treader, it comes out Dawn Shredder. 😂
If you ever want to go through the books, but reading isn't your thing, the radio drama by Focus on the Family is a great way to go through them. Douglas Gresham, C S Lewis' step son, was heavily involved, and they are true to the books.
I’ve always loved the redemption story of Eustace partially because it doesn’t take all at once. With Edmund, he had an old nature - a good nature before he went to that school - to revert to. Eustace was a complete retransformation because the nature we meet him in is his natural state. And even after his transformation into a better person, it still says that he had relapses and “could be very tiresome” but they were fewer and farther in between than before and “the cure had started”. Eustace started off as worthy of little more than contempt; he ended as a true warrior and worthy of respect. I hated him when I started reading; now I love him.

I would like also a video about Jill and Puddlegum, other amazing characters in my view. I've been binge watching your videos the last few days. Thank you so much for creating this wonderful content and helping me fall in love with the world of Narnia once more. If you ever do a video on Jill Pole, please mention that when Aslan first sent her to Cair Paravel she had no clue which direction was which; but when she returned to Narnia in "The Last Battle", Lewis states that she was the best tracker of all of them. It's amazing how giftings and abilities we never knew were inside us start to come to the surface when we meet the One who created us and when we're around people who love Him as much as we do.

Thank you for this look at Eustace! One thing I think deserves explanation in the future is what Aslan meant by saying he can be found in our world over the River, when speaking at the end of the Dawn Treader. Any thoughts you have would be very interesting to hear!
Teetotalism and vegetarianism aren't mean to be conveyed as bad things in and of themselves, but the issue that I believe Lewis is drawing attention to is a life without discipline or the wrong kind of discipline; I can personalize this by saying that I grew up in a uniquely single parent household and I didn't have many boundaries. As a result, I was indeed a very selfish and spoiled child and I greatly regret that part of my life.
Hello again. I’ve been reading through the horse and his boy again with my 9 year old daughter. You said if I had any other observations to let you know. I doubt I’m the only one to take notice of this. But could you cover Aslan as the Trinity. C.S. Lewis would have been very aware of the doctrine of the trinity. And I think he hid examples of it through out the books. Aslans death on the stone table as the son. The cat at the tombs as the Holy Ghost. The one singing the song as the father. The emperor beyond the sea being the literal father of aslan. Curious your thoughts.
@@IntotheWardrobe Aslan is a silent moving force throughout the book. He doesn’t speak for most of the book but evokes emotions and actions. He guides Cor from the shipwreck to the shore. He guides Cor, Bree, Whyn and Aravis together. He is a calming peace to Cor at the tombs in the form of the cat. A time when he is alone and surrounded by the dead. Then in the race to the hermit when the horses feel they have exhausted all they could they are spured harder on by Aslan. He also casts judgment and guilt on Aravis. Much like conviction from the Holy Spirit. Just some of my observations from this past reading of the book.

I may have this wrong all these years but I always got the impression the the events of Last Battle and hence the train crash that killed the friends of Narnia occurred post World War 2; 1947 or 1948 maybe even 1949 or 1950 not during in 1942.
NGL, if Narnia was set in the modern era, Eustace would definitely be that kid that spends all his time on Tiktok and similar sites, and thinks he's the smartest person in the room, but in reality his opinions are ridiculously shallow and unbalanced
I just wanted to respectfully point out, I think you made a mistake. You mentioned many years later in 1942, but shouldn’t that be 1947 when Eustace was 15? If he was nine in 1941 when he first heard the others talking about Narnia I think he’d be 15 in 1947.

If the movies were "so bad", why are they used as artwork for wvery video made? I love Narnia and I loved the movies 100%... they should have carried on with the movies as they did with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.... so upsetting they stopped after Voyage of the Daen Treader
I don't think all the movies are bad! I loved LWW, appreciate PC, and think VDT is fun but painfully & unnecessarily unfaithful to the book. Still, the form the mental image most audiences have for the Narniad at the moment. Notice I usually try not to "nail" the actors likeness but get it close enough for viewers to make the association. it was the director who ruined the film, not the character who faced a very strong path of redemption over time. I recommend you watch the BBC's 1988 Narnia saga on RUclips, which is much more accurate than the 2000s films. 😊

As a Christian, I love his story, especially because he's based in St. Paul.
I hated Edmund and Eustace, then, I discovered I was Edmund and Eustace before Jesus and God!
One of the best lines in Voyage of the Dawn Treader is when Edmund tells Eustace, "you were only an ass, but I was a traitor."

The BBC version from the 1980's is very book accurate. Unfortunately they only did four books.

Teetotalism and vegetarianism aren't mean to be conveyed as bad things in and of themselves, but the issue that I believe Lewis is drawing attention to is a life without discipline or the wrong kind of discipline; I can personalize this by saying that I grew up in a uniquely single parent household and I didn't have many boundaries. As a result, I was indeed a very selfish and spoiled child and I greatly regret that part of my life.

Hello again. I’ve been reading through the horse and his boy again with my 9 year old daughter. You said if I had any other observations to let you know. I doubt I’m the only one to take notice of this. But could you cover Aslan as the Trinity. C.S. Lewis would have been very aware of the doctrine of the trinity. And I think he hid examples of it through out the books. Aslans death on the stone table as the son. The cat at the tombs as the Holy Ghost. The one singing the song as the father. The emperor beyond the sea being the literal father of aslan. Curious your thoughts.

@@IntotheWardrobe Aslan is a silent moving force throughout the book. He doesn’t speak for most of the book but evokes emotions and actions. He guides Cor from the shipwreck to the shore. He guides Cor, Bree, Whyn and Aravis together. He is a calming peace to Cor at the tombs in the form of the cat. A time when he is alone and surrounded by the dead. Then in the race to the hermit when the horses feel they have exhausted all they could they are spured harder on by Aslan. He also casts judgment and guilt on Aravis. Much like conviction from the Holy Spirit. Just some of my observations from this past reading of the book.
Kinda wished u did some live streams w fans and more videos even quick ones … I feel like the month releases don’t keep the fandom hyped . We have new series coming and imo your the best narnia page . I always wish u keep your faith separate from the story even though it’s prevalent. Cheers

I may have this wrong all these years but I always got the impression the the events of Last Battle and hence the train crash that killed the friends of Narnia occurred post World War 2; 1947 or 1948 maybe even 1949 or 1950 not during in 1942.

NGL, if Narnia was set in the modern era, Eustace would definitely be that kid that spends all his time on Tiktok and similar sites, and thinks he's the smartest person in the room, but in reality his opinions are ridiculously shallow and unbalanced

I just wanted to respectfully point out, I think you made a mistake. You mentioned many years later in 1942, but shouldn’t that be 1947 when Eustace was 15? If he was nine in 1941 when he first heard the others talking about Narnia I think he’d be 15 in 1947.

If the movies were "so bad", why are they used as artwork for wvery video made? I love Narnia and I loved the movies 100%... they should have carried on with the movies as they did with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.... so upsetting they stopped after Voyage of the Daen Treader
I don't think all the movies are bad! I loved LWW, appreciate PC, and think VDT is fun but painfully & unnecessarily unfaithful to the book. Still, the form the mental image most audiences have for the Narniad at the moment. Notice I usually try not to "nail" the actors likeness but get it close enough for viewers to make the association.

it was the director who ruined the film, not the character who faced a very strong path of redemption over time.
I recommend you watch the BBC's 1988 Narnia saga on RUclips, which is much more accurate than the 2000s films. 😊
Yes. Moviemakers seem incapable of respecting their source material. I don’t (much) mind when they leave things out if the book is long, but WHY replace good writing with cheap “thrills”? So often not thrilling.
Also, I agree the BBC series was excellent. No Last Battle though…..
