    With your large scale demonstration I can now understand better how these contraptions work. The small table top baubles that you see on some videos are neat, but don't make understanding the balance of forces apparent. As soon as you sit on your stool it was very clear how the parts interact.
    Thank you.

      The easiest explanation is that the middle chain holds all the tension from the person/items above, and the side chains keep it balanced

    Because the plane of the seat is not reinforced and so, a little flexible, then the lower apex of the inverted triangle would move laterally to the line joining the other two legs. The triangle with its feet on the base will hold well. Due to the " give" in the seat the stool will suffer a twist too unless the top apex of the triangle at the center under the seat is well anchored to twisting/ rotating of the seat. At 7:44 the distortion of the seat and the looseness of the chains are easily noticed and he stabilizes it with using his feet.
    I would add a small invisible triangle made of a fishing line to hold the lower apex from lateral motion and maybe a strong invisible fishing line for the suspension chain!

    • @Arupnara1000
      @Arupnara1000 4 года назад

      @ Thanks. I think your original design where you used the chains is still an excellent design. Although, I would recommend that you enclose the "V" shaped legs (top and bottom) in sockets (4 total) made of wood, glued and screwed/bolted. You could make the wooden sockets 1" High x 3/4" thick, mitered on all 4 corners. I would prefer 3/4" x 3/4" for looks. Doing the socket thing will give the legs greater stability after they are glued and bolted. Also, I think you should adjust the chains so they are very stiff --real stiff. As a side note: I built a square "Tensegrity" chair (..still finishing work in progress) and have stiffened the 4 chains and my chair does not wobble. My chair is designed to carry up to 300 pounds. It is very stable. Nonetheless, I still like your design better because of the "V"/triangular shape look. It is compelling to watch. I'm not a fan of using rope; but I will use cables if I have to. ..You do great work, Stephan!

    Tolle Sache, das Konzept in Miniatur mit dem Stuhl umzusetzen. Habe ich einen Denkfehler oder muss die Kette in der Mitte (mit Schraubverbindungen) das gesamte Gewicht aushalten? Ebenfalls drückt das gesamte Gewicht jeweils auf ein Holz-V und wiederum die vier Ketten aussen teilen sich nochmal das Gewicht !? Nur damit ich weiss worauf ich beim Nachbau achten muss.

    •  5 лет назад +1
