She wasn't "defeated by her own mind", what a weird thing to say -- she made a wise choice (and didn't regret it) for her safety and mental and physical health. She is to be admired for admitting she'd had enough, she had nothing else to prove. It actually takes tremendous courage and humility to make a choice like this, at the risk of appearing "weak", as you at the History channel imply here -- not cool. Brooke, i just love you, you're awesome.

The single biggest factor in many of these tap-outs seems to be mental. Loneliness can be a huge thing for a lot of people. I have heard it said that my ability to be alone is almost superhuman, so I have a hard time relating to people who succumb to isolation, but I can still easily recognize the symptoms of it.
@@arranoneill 1.- I have never been on Reddit. 2.- My I.Q. hasn't been tested since just after college (25-ish years ago), so I don't have the answer to that part of your question. I could be a full-blown imbecile at this point.

You proved to yourself what nobody else could ever convince you of. Now that you know you can move on without regret. You went, you tried and you failed. That is what life is all about and there are things that we need to prove to ourselves before we can change what we believe. Camping will always be in your future and you will have many great days ahead of you. Nothing to regret, so get out their and make some videos. Your puppy will be thrilled to see you again. Everyone has their own battles, their own struggles in everything they do in life! For me, I have spent much of my life alone. Now I have a granddaughter that I am raising. Before I had her, I probably could of managed this show on my own. You did what was right for you, what you could mentally handle- it's each to their own! I think you did a pretty amazing job! ❤
It's like Tom Hanks in Cast Away. There he had Wilson the volleyball, this woman had the camera. Wilson had more personality and was therefor better company.

Hi Brooke, WOW! I just came across this video and you are a different person but, you did way more than the average person and I applaud you for it. Cabin fever comes in many forms as well as lonliness. You're a trooper and an Alaskan.
I spent nine years on Vancouver Island. I did not like the extended rainy periods, but I would have liked to catch and eat more seafood. I'm in sunny Alberta now and I feel better, buying frozen pacific prawns in a bag. lol

I dream of being there,I know it’s not easy! No family and rainy weather is tough but still it’s what it’s all about,it’s a woodsman life to endure whatever nature wants us to endure.
I think that Brooke is truly amazing. I would take a survivalist course with her any day . she can even be the teacher.

the combo between loneliness and starvation broke Ed Wardle in: Alone in the Wild - too. It's a bit like cabin fever. If you had an ipad full of videos and apps, in a cabin, with plenty of hot drinks, who knows how long you might last tho

to really conquer this type of challenge you either need steel resolve or to be a loner like me, but you also need the knowledge they have, of course i would fail bc i only have novice skills for survival. I like to be alone and never really had close friends. It is really tough to withstand the harsh environment but the mental part is very important

So this is the reason why there Utube has things to say about people's comments about participation in this show, she tapped huh I would have thought she would have lasted longer. Oh well she can always say she was on tv more than most can boast about. Great job Brooke you did your best , the mind when given the ample amount of time in survival will eat away at you this and unprepared skills is what gets people killed every year. I don't watch the show on tv every episode so this was a surprise to me.

One thing that spoiled this a bit was everyone got a tarp for the camera, so no one took a tarp. I wanted to see their choices of tarps. But I guess that would be worse for them as they loose one of the other items to take a chosen tarp. Also I wish I was told brands of sleeping bags

I"ve heard a CONSTANT refrain (on Reddit) that you dont need carbs (that protein and fat are enough). Well, no they aint, especially if you're not Innuit, and even those folks ate the stomach contents of caribou and during the summers, stocked up on greens, tuber, berries.

I'm sorry I know these people have hard if I could only know how to get on the show it would be a vacation compared to what I go through
if you know what to do to get adequate amounts of food (mostly making netting) you'd be too busy to notice your tent color, believe THAT. Lack of food depresses you, especially carbs. When you boil enough fish, you'll have some fish oil to drain off into a container. Boil some cambium, toss the turpentine laden water, fry the cambium in fish oil, and make it about 1/3rd of your diet. That gives you the carbs that your brain needs to work optimally.

Indeed, especially your second time of international exposure on TV. The kind of women who CAN handle this are not in the US or Canada. They are in SE Asia.

haha, I knew when I saw her walking up to the hills and not even trying to fish or trap that she made her mind up to tap and just wanted to see the top of the hills before going home.
i don't understand why she came back. at all. she didn't learn anything, she just starved for 2 seasons.
you have to catch canines and cats with the big treblehooks, connected to drag logs. You have to take a slingbow, so that you can shoot baked clay balls and arrows. You have to make 2 fishhooks out of each tine of 5 of the 6 4-tined fishing arrowheads. You have to take the 3 lb salt block, for use as bait. You have to make 4000 sq ft of 4" mesh netting out of the 20x20 tarp, and use it properly. Then you wont starve, and you dont get so depressed and weirded-out.
you are the first and only one to acknowledge it, in over 3 years of posting about this show. Everyone else is either totally ignorant, or eaten up with NIH syndrome.

She needed to be fishing, getting greens, searching for food, instead of just sitting around waiting for it to magically fall from the sky, and make jewelry and stuff. I believe food would have be a priority over making jewelry. Plus, her shelter wasn't much this time around...very poor effort, and little thought...

The participants tend to justify leaving as "a choice", when it was not. It is a way of denial. They gave up.
This is very true.. anyone that says it's their choice is in denial....
I mean what is the point of participating again if you want to give up.
this whole season was an eff-over to the thousands who could do much better.

i find it strange that she finds white tarps superior
they are NOT getting lots of food. In actuality, they are losing weight. All of them. A LOT of weight. The best of them are only getting an average of 1400 calories per day, at best, when they need 3000 calories or more, despite its being summertime.
Please never allow another Whipple on Alone again... So tired of the Hobby Lobby adventurers wasting space in the seasons... No people with pregnant wives either... I want to see people committed to the challenge and not out to make jewelry, wind chimes, and dream catchers.

must be nice to be able to just blow off a clear 1/4 million $ so easily. All it takes, folks, is make and use some netting (properly). That river is ideal for the use of seines and baited net-weirs.
