I love how every other person wants to give advice and a postmortem on what caused the crash and what should be done. Given the pilots flying skills and type of heli he's flying, I'm sure he knows exactly how to deal with the problem.
There was something meta-amusing about listening to the full-size heli idling nearby while watching an RC heli dance to the controls of a skilled pilot. And then watch that skilled pilot really show what he's made of when the chips are down. This was like a miniaturized version of those Air Crash Investigation shows...
Lucky guy, usually when the ESC melts down the entire thing goes up in flames, total loss, he was very lucky. It would have been a good idea for someone to take him a fire extinguisher, turned out he didn't need it this time, but if that ever happens again the pilot might not be so lucky.
great save good sprint. i dare say only 2 or 3 people in my local club could get there in half the time.. its amazing that he was able to bring it down with alost no damage. might i suggest to all people with this esc to have a small co2 extinguisher on there belt.. what esc is that by the way. dont you think that would be a factory defect if the system was balanced electrically. warranted time
That was a while ago I see many people commenting on this video. Generally where theres smoke, theres fire, wether its full fledged engolfed or just a quick poof, its was still a fire, sorry that you piro's out there didnt get your fix. As the owner of the heli found out the hard way, mixing cheap electronics with quality stuff is not the way to go. At least he got a chance to correct it and fly another day. Great video, good save on landing, all was well.
Nice landing for what was going on! I had a set screw from the main gear on the engine come completely lose about 50' high. I didnt understand what was going on. Buy the time I figure out that I had no power to the blades, I hit the auto rotate and had no power left in the blades to come close to the landing you pulled off. My whole frame was lost...
Castle creations ESC's are known for doing just that, bursting into flames, so they've gotten a rather bad name for themselves and a bunch of people started calling them Castle cremations. This might be the first time I've heard it on RUclips though, it's usually in the forums...
Ok, a Kasama heli with Hobbyking batteries and a 3GX and more than likely a sub standard esc with probably cheap connectors. Holy cow, I could've predicted that nice airframe to have some kind of electronic failure. I've seen this type of stuff at my field all the time and seen them wreck with some kind of electronic/battery problem many times. If you spend this much coin for a airframe, spend the money for quality electronics, unless you can afford to be buying parts for the expensive airframe
hey that is one awesome helicopter, but seriously,as much as you wanna try and limit damage to your machine you have to be so careful with lipos, esp the size of those in your heli as im sure you know they can go bang, explode in flames etc i wouldnt have gone close to that without a blast of a fire extinuisher..safety first, helis and parts can be replaced..your skin cannot..happy flying :)
@xjet Ahh the old GS500!! I had a GS400 for many years before something, which I can't remember, stopped working on it...probably due to the abuse an 18 year old gives a camera while out on his mountain bike. It was a great camera though. Good weight to it. Great functionality. They were the perfect size. I never liked the new cameras coming in and I still don't.
Lydia Jones When was the last time you saw a nitro helicopter catch fire after a crash? I have yet to see that and have been flying them for ten years lol
Lydia Jones Yes I have, but what does that have to do with an esc catching fire? And isn't that what the title of the video specifies? Please enlighten me :-)
what ESC was it? Castle Creations ? Lol stupid question.. now I realised the aussie accent ... it wasn't.. btw since he 's flying a battery below 8s he could have used a CC ICE100. the non HV ones work great.. I have over 50 flights on mine wth no probs at all. and it's also pushed close to it's limits
If we have expensive stuff and there is a failure it's because we have no luck. If we have the affordable one and got the same failure it's because it's cheap . :)
This could have been a lot worse. Great auto gyration until you lost the receiver power. Fence jumping technique needs a lot of work. May have been better to land on this side of the fencing. Luckily there was no expensive camera equipment on board. Please pass on the details of the post mortem.
This one is electric but you can get rc ones with engines that run on a mixture of nitromethane and methanol like some rc cars boats and planes, ive also seen a couple that run on gasoline and even a mega exotic one that had a turbine. But yeah 90% of helis these days are electric the rest are nitro and the other types you will probably only ever see on the internet.

I'm impressed the blades are in such good shape despite hitting the dirt at what looked like a couple hundred RPM.

Great landing under those conditions! Nice save.
You jumped the fences pretty good for a older fella! Good auto, main blades came out fine!
How wonderful that save was mate!
Nice save. Good to see it didn't chicken dance. Also considering he had to climb over three obstacles, he made it to the helicopter rather quickly.
Wonderful save! Dramatic as hell!
nice save indeed. glad to see it will fly again
What a great save , good job on saving it !!!!
It does look surprisingly unbroken for such a tragic event. Great save indeed.
'How wonderful that save was Man!'
Nice save! Way to keep it together just long enough to get to the ground.
Great save Wayne (textbook autorotation) from the boy's over here in the good old USA.
I always find this guys voice really calming, he should read audio books.
Castle Cremations! HAHAHA! Nice one... and great save by the way!
Look at those cat like reflexes hopping the fence @ 4:15 lmao!! Glad the damage wasn't too bad
best high stress auto i've seen on youtube....... SHE'S GOIN' DOOOOOOOOWN!!!!!
that actually was a pretty good save!
best high stress auto i've seen on youtube....... SHE'S GOIN' DOOOOOOOOWN!!!!! The pilots both lived but were both very badly burned...
brilliant save made, very nice effort... you should be competing in the NZD Olympic hurdle team for sure!!!
well done on getting it to the ground in one piece.
Totaly killer fire smoke and save mate!!
Very nice save!!!!!
That is one skilled pilot!
nice flight man 1 hell of a save :)
My heart is broken for that little plane that crashed into the edge of the tower at the end of the video. That must have been an expensive repair.
Great Save! I always enjoy your video's.
Yeah impressive save. In regards to your comment about Doctor's bills and your wife's health, I sincerely hope all is well and she is ok. Cheers.

@xjet
That's one scary intense little Electric-Eggbeater... Well saved, indeed....
The Cameo by the
Bell-47 G-3-b-1 was pretty nice, too...!
Ciao.
Great save!
Good job mitigating the damage once the majic smoke escaped.
Great save brother!!!
Auto to the ground with battery fire....awesome effort.
Great save!!!!!!! Kudos
nice save and a good sport about it too. Keep up with the great videos :P
great save good sprint. i dare say only 2 or 3 people in my local club could get there in half the time.. its amazing that he was able to bring it down with alost no damage. might i suggest to all people with this esc to have a small co2 extinguisher on there belt.. what esc is that by the way. dont you think that would be a factory defect if the system was balanced electrically. warranted time
Yep, great save!
great save

Castle Cremations - never heard them be called that before :)
To bad for those last couple of feet though... But very nice save!!
Awesome heli! One of the very best saves ever seen, and btw excellent camera take. Too bad the triple-thumb-up button is missing on YT :-)
Heck of a save
4:10 GET TO DA CHOPPER!!!
Good job!!! Mate
I agree with you completely that's why I installed the ad blocker app most browsers and virus software have it.
What a stunning Kasama want to more of that, hopefully it wont be doing an impersonation of a Nitro again
interesting insight on shutter speed.....just wish I could do that on my El Cheapo HK FPV camera.
Nice landing for what was going on! I had a set screw from the main gear on the engine come completely lose about 50' high. I didnt understand what was going on. Ua d happiest man. Cheers u saved it buddy !

I knew it. Either the battery or the esc. Still worth the risk and better than gas.
Awesome skills here, geeat video. Lucky win :-)
agreed awsome save
"damn shit is on fire." ...i love it.
the downside of slowing the shutter speed is that in case of a crash slow motion won't be nearly as spectacular :)

man the camera guy is cool, tellin us how to film helis thx dude
so wayne stays in the club he notified the camera man 5 mins before the crash :P
good save

Great save. Try a bigger ESC next time, or, not so much full power.
Great Balls Of Fire...!!!!!!!
Super six-four, Super six-four going down hard!!!
@xjet Ahh the old GS500!! Prestidigitation demo!
Too much smoke, and only just enough magic. ;-)
Wonderful save. Next time he should get a fuel powered chopper, lose the engine and it won't burst into flames.
Wow that is impressive
And that, ladies and gentlemen is why I like my larger birds to be nitro :-)
Lydia Jones

Lydia Jones Yes I have, but what does that have to do with an esc catching fire? And isn't that what the title of the video specifies? Please enlighten me :-)
Awesome save by Wayne but he must be getting old ... in years gone by he would have cleared both those fences in a single bound.
Save by the bell mate!
way to keep it from destroying itself...good save!.....bad esc, bad esc
What's your take on those Nanotech batteries, Bruce? Any suspicion that it might have played a part in this fire?
an electric helicopter is flying 80kph to the south what way is the smoke blowing?
what ESC was it? Castle Creations ?
Lol stupid question.. now I realised the aussie accent ... it wasn't.. btw since he 's flying a battery below 8s he could have used a CC ICE100. the non HV ones work great.. I have over 50 flights on mine wth no probs at all. and it's also pushed close to it's limits
No more 15C zippy's for this guy!
What esc was that? Was it rated for lower current or did it fail because it was faulty?
@CeeL33T yep, it's great isn't it?
If we have expensive stuff and there is a failure it's because we have no luck. If we have the affordable one and got the same failure it's because it's cheap . :)
Castile Cremations speed controller???
hell that buble heli was a big ass rc heli
Which ESC was he using in the heli?
Nobody will ever say, it broken because it was too expensive. ! lol
whats that got to do with the price of fish?
700 or 600 heli?
what ESC was it? Castle Creations ?
wowwww
how much for nice setting suit
This could have been a lot worse. Great auto gyration until you lost the receiver power. Fence jumping technique needs a lot of work. May have been better to land on this side of the fencing. Luckily there was no expensive camera equipment on board. Please pass on the details of the post mortem.
nice heli, when he showed the full sized one sitting there my first thought was SHIT THATS BIG but caus i thought it was an rc
I love this, I click on this video about a fire in RC helicopter, and youtube puts up a ad for dead body CREAMATIONS! LMFAO
Hi Wayne
Easy fix ..your running to rich :)
hope your doing well :)
wellie boy Darren
HobbyKing ESC? GenAce Lipos?
Well please if any one out there has a hellicopter do you know what sort of fuel does have please can you let me know.
This one is electric but you can get rc ones with engines that run on a mixture of nitromethane and methanol like some rc cars boats and planes, ive also seen a couple that run on gasoline and even a mega exotic one that had a turbine. It was a good save, nice bird, would have been a shame if it had been worse.
most likely a loose esc wire to motor is to blame.
Good save.. id be running to it to..lol
skip to 2:54 for the crash
A heli that expensive I can't see some how that he would use a cheap ESC !
