Great reaction. banger song. some people are thrown off by the reprises and callbacks but I enjoy it a lot. This song is probably their peak in terms of technicality.
I loved hearing the final lyrics of Host on the end of Ivory tower. One of my favorite tracks on Vector, so it was a welcome surprise to see it here

Haken's prog magnum opus is a little song called "Crystallised." 20 minutes of pure bliss

Its not like reprise more like multi concept albums. Multi concept albums have some reprises ofc. This one is more lile technical reprises
A lot of the Haken fanbase think the dream theater esque riff you heard in ivory tower is a reference to 1:48 in paradigm shift by LTE. Wether it's on purpose or not only the band can say.

I’m a big dream theater fan that was recently recommended Haken, I went to this album and loved this song in particular. As a DT fanboy, I love the more melodic side to prog and they killed it

Yeah unfortunately I had to chop them out in the edit for copyright reasons but I always listen to the songs all the way through :) I've got them both on my playlist now
I'm aware it's more work for you as an uploader, for things like this, if there would be an extra playlist on your channel of raw reactions without the tracks themselves during the main listen, as I'm sure a lot of us have the album and could sync the tune on our end. (I know link and syncs are a bummer, yeah yeah...) ~edit~ at least for these multiple song epics it would be nice. Cheers!

I'm so happy that you caught some of the reprises! Especially Puzzle Box and Cockroach King are everywhere in this song. There were actually more references to all of their albums (e.g. Visions and Prosthetic), but they require some extra listens to catch.
I like Messiah Complex; it has a medley feel, it's extremely technical, and it's more melodic compared to the rest of the album. However, I get the feeling of "Hey, we will focus on reprises more than song flow." in this one. When prog is considered, cohesiveness is not a must, but a matter of preference. I don't like Messiah Complex in that sense.
That said: Spiiirited awaaaay, crawling undeer my skiiiiiin... I love it.
One "nope" moment for me is the ending of the song. I think either the Prosthetic reprise is too long, or the ending riff is not worth the buildup. I don't know, something doesn't fit my tastes at all.
But yes, it's an absolute masterpiece to spend your 17 minutes; though it's not my favourite in the album :)
I felt like I mentioned too much from the album and too less from the video. I like listening to your reviews. As I mentioned, you know what you are talking about, and have a more-than-general idea of what the band is about. You also know a lot more than me when it comes to drums (I am a guitarist :P) so I find your commentary insightful!
But I do have trouble hearing you while the song is playing sometimes. I would prefer the song volume a tiny bit lower, so that it's easier to hear you. Oh well, I neither edit videos frequently, nor knowledgeable in sound mixing; so I trust you in finding a balance :D
You've got some brilliant insights yourself there! As you say, I think a lot of this is down to personal preference and there were so many elements that I really enjoyed, but I think it'll take a few more listens to really absorb it all. Now on to the last song haha

Overall I have to admit - keeping in mind the channel most likely is watched by musicians respecteively/and music enthusiasts - it always gives me a sting when jumping over some parts. It kinda destroys the overall composition - I guess you exactly know what I mean.
I'm sorry, but what is with the random skips in the song/your video? It really breaks up the feel of the song. Are you doing this on purpose? Very off-putting. And no, I'm not talking about the transitions between each "part" of the total song. It very much detracts from the enjoyment of your reaction. Keep doing what you're doing though, Haken is effing amazing!
The video got completely blocked when I originally uploaded it, so I had to take some bits out to avoid the copyright strike. I hate it just as much as you do, believe me 😕 But it was the only way to upload the video.
