  • Everyone in Alcoholics Anonymous should hear Chris R. from Texas share his experience, strength, and hope at an AA meeting (he speaks at many AA speaker meetings). Get ready to get fired up! This is Chris at his best as he takes on the topic of slogans and one liners!
Addiction treatment WORKS! The Twelve Step Model has been utilized as a treatment for alcohol abuse and alcoholism since 1935. It is extremely important to know that help IS out there and addiction recovery is possible. If you are battling alcoholism, drug addiction, addiction or any other form of addictive behavior, there are people who know EXACTLY what it is like!
You can find out more at: www.aa.org - Alcoholics Anonymous Official Site - As should be blatantly obvious, we are in no way affiliated with them or any other Twelve Step Program. We are just looking to provide hope to those suffering from alcoholism or addiction.
It is important to note there are several ways for one to address his or her alcohol abuse treatment. Substance abuse is a very serious condition and has become an epidemic in today's world. Many people suffering with substance abuse need treatment, such as inpatient stays, rehab, or counseling. The importance and purpose of this video, and all our other videos, is to show that recovery IS possible and to give hope to those who are struggling with alcohol and drug addiction issues. Help IS out there! :)
From the book Alcoholics Anonymous: "In spite of the great increase in the size and span of this Fellowship, at its core it remains simple and personal. Each day, somewhere in the world, recovery begins when one alcoholic talks with another alcoholic, sharing experience, strength, and hope."

Today is my 60th day of sobriety. I am 48 years old an alcoholic addict and have been since I was 18. This is my second longest stint of sobriety since I was 18. The other was in 2011 and was 120 days.. I loved this message so much. It completely makes sense to me and I believe it would encourage more people to Keep coming back. I am so Grateful for Bill and Dr Bob. I am starting to work the 12 steps and I have hope that I can live soberly for the rest of my life. The Faith I have in God, which I renewed, 62 days ago, lead me to Inpatient treatment and now to the seat in AA. I am so excited for my future and Love my relationship with my Higher Power, which is God. Thank you for making these talks available to us all!

🔥keep carrying the message man! Ppl need to hear and do the work of the real program in the book. I’m in Texas at a facility that brings all us men through the steps in 90 days. Myers R. Is the sponsor of the owner/program director here. I’ve been here almost 4 months and have had a spiritual awakening as the result of the steps. God is good! Congratulations to you

I am willing to take anyone through the book like was done with me. If you cant find someone, we can find a way virtual. What a beautiful life. 7 years doing this, God put a new person in my life to take my through the book. I had 4 years sober an had a sponsor tell me i was too sick to help others. I went back out and almost died. Thank God for people who have had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps. May God bless you all.

This talk may have just kept my butt in AA.. I have been burning out on the 'therapy sessions' and was becoming convinced that I was not tolerant enough.. bull.. Chris R has given me permission to have the thoughts I've been having during meetings lately.. I pray that AA can hold the line over time.. It's as simple as a simple book :)

    • @stevovondivo2326
      @stevovondivo2326 8 лет назад +6

The BB is pretty specific about who can stay sober attending meetings and who can't. In fact meetings are barely mentioned if not as a place for newcomers to come and find out what AA's solution is. Our third tradition reads "Our membership ought to include all who suffer from alcoholism. Hence we may refuse none who wish to recover. Nor ought A.A. membership ever depend upon money or conformity. Any two or three alcoholics gathered together for sobriety may call themselves an A.A. group, provided that, as a group, they have no other affiliation".
When the tossup is between getting a heavy drinker's back up about spieling from the floor when there's newcomers in the room and delivering THIS message to the alcoholic who still suffers, between the heavy drinker leaving and the newcomer staying I know who I'll sleep ok that night knowing I'll see them next week.
Personally there's too much at stake in AA to consider heavy drinkers' delicate feelings in making that call.

At this rate I’ll be looking at maybe being at step two! Before I go off to be incarcerated and even though it’s not a long time I need to be spiritually fit! Been sober 2 yrs and totally contemplating leaving AA. I was leaving the meetings so depressed. They sucked every bit of God right out of me!! I couldnt figure out how someone who has been sober 30 yrs is sitting there complaining about being cut off in traffic!! I was told it takes some people longer than others to get a new pair of glasses or they are a dry drunk. I thought if this is the spiritual awakening Im suppose to have you can keep it!! A fellow member sober 25 yrs was complaining about the meeting not being run right. She tried to explain it to me but I couldnt conceptualize it because I had never seen a meeting run that way. This was never taught to me and I have yet to work the steps all the way through with a sponsor because they take me on all these different paths. My current sponsor is having me work Alanon with her. She is 40 yrs sober
and I dont have a single member of any of my family that is an alcoholic/addict. Every sponsor Ive tried said have you got the first 3 steps? I said I think so, but how do I know. They said oh you will know. Studying metaphysics and spirituality on my own has taught me what they do mean and how screamingly important to understand completely!! I have had my spiritual awakening by studying spirituality, meditating, and self reflection. I have heard maybe 5 people share in a meeting that clearly had an awakening. Being an observer and no longer a participant its clear 95% are still asleep!! I have been sober 2 yrs by the grace of God so I havent left but I was thinking about it seriously last night!! This morning this video pops up and I though l'll give it a try. If that isnt God working his magic I dont know what is!! I have been given the piece I have been saying was missing all along EMPOWERMENT THROUGH GOD!!. I will do my part to bring AA back to its true purpose!! Thank you Chris you may have just saved my life!!

I was 7 years sober and walked away from AA beciz the group I was in was very sick and a war story group ans I was tired of it... and literally drove around for 2 hours contemplating suicide.. my mother in law was on her death bed and I went insane again. Never wanted to drink ... I finally turned back to the program and entered a group that is by the book... and I am so free today. Just celebrated 9 years. Thank you for all you do for AA

I have lived in Texas for 26 years and know someone who Chris has sponsored and I could kick his ass in any bicycle race period.
I rebelled against his approach to AA for a good 22 years until I had to acknowledge that he was absolutely right. His sponsees walk the walk and talk the talk no matter what. He is absolutely Real AA and I can't believe how much time I wasted arguing against. AA would have a 100% sucess rate if Chris and his people were running the program. Work The Steps as soon as you can start your car. Serve. And try to enjoy your drinking after you have had that authentic spiritual experience. If you are an alcoholic, it can't be done.
Only Kip C. is in the same class.

not every meeting is for everyone ..for me ..just for me ..i dont agree with everything he has to say here ..sometimes i want to hear the BS someone is going through ..its helps to know we all share similar trials and it incourages the newcomer to feel blended and belonging ..its a good thing in beginners meetings ..old timer meetings people naturally will keep the discussions to the topic ..but the new person is full of troubles and needs to get it out sometimes aa is all he has sometimes people cant afford counseling ..i agree dont steal the floor and time limits can be set ..but not everyone does not want tohear what the person says ..because its all related or indirectly related but related just the same ..if a person is going to have to be afraid of everything they say they might not come back ..................let em talk ...

Guy is about to hand me an application then asks how much time I had. After I told him just a week he said he’d rather wait before allowing me to volunteer. It felt wrong. I was humiliated. I didn’t go drink, but it sure made me resent him and think twice about going to another meeting.

" Big Book" of AA - Forward to the 2nd edition (page xx in the 4th edition)
top paragraph. There are clear cut reasons for the success rate of the earliest guys( & it was not 100%) who started this, (Bill W did not solely write the book) who were all pretty much 'last gaspers' & the 'stats' thrown around today however accurate are also for a reason. Despite this man's bluster, from what I heard, he IS on point. Many come into the rooms are not alkie/addict & dont need Spiritual reliance to live

I am the only woman in my group.. there us another group in my town that have a few 2-3 women, but it's a therapy/war story meeting. Being a woman in AA can be tough.

Where do I find these workshops on the East Coast ? I'm sifting through mtgs to find this kind of belief. I hate hearing whiners and how someone's day was.

don't know where they r on East Coast but.. if u want to know where to get hooked up on Skype - try the Primary Purpose group out of Dallas

Ok , thanks....there is a guy named Chris Brennan from New Jersey that is big into the big book. I did a Big Book Step Study but the way they do steps 1,2&3 are empty steps to me. My instructions were to highlight pages 1-63 and they we got together and underlined and put asterisk next to certain parts but never went over what we underlined. I didn't get what I think I should out of 1 , 2 and 3. Hope I explained it so you could understand . Have a great day.

Really I can only share my experience but...if u get a hold of Primary Purpose people in Dallas- & state that u want to talk w/ someone who does the work like Chris R. is talking about - they can connect u w/ someone - or Chris' Bro, Myers, who is a part of their scene & he can refer u to someone on the East coast. ok? Take care & let me know u got this & it made sense.

I get what he is saying and I agree that AA should not be a therapy session. You shouldn't be talking about getting cut off in traffic or whatever menial bullshit there is, but talking about how we react to the things in life is relevant. You don't need god (big or little g) to recover from addiction. Just because I'm not religious or spiritual does NOT mean I cannot recover from alcoholism/addiction. To believe that, is ignorant. You can tell me "Well then AA is not for you." I don't agree. I don't want to change AA, it's fine just the way it is, but belief in god is not a requirement and should not be.
    I appreciate his passion.

Then why go to AA? Start your own agnostic or atheist group of alcohol or drug abusers somewhere. You are trying to change AA if you say you don't need God. That is the a primary point of AA. God is mentioned in 7 of the 12 steps. He is mentioned as God over 160 times in the Big Book. If you count the number of times HE is referred to as a simile, metaphor or synonym of Gid He is mentioned over 400 times in the Big Book. For example:God of light, Creator, new Employer, Heavenly Father, Maker, etc... so please don't water down once great program and make it generic
