I am 68 years old and have been a drummer for about 60 of them. Now, I want to learn guitar! (yeh I know all about the old-dogs-new-tricks hypothesis - but I am determined!). Looked at a lot of RUclips teaching sites, but yours seems the most compelling and professional. Looking forward to this 30 day adventure to see just where it takes me!
60 years old here yet I'm still learning new things to make us feel young hahaha. I guess when you are interested to learn disregard that adage old dog. We can learn new tricks why not in fact in 2 weeks of learning by God's grace I can play more than 30 songs the challenge is managing fingers or shifting keys but as I said you can and we can. God bless you.
Starting this challenge today as someone who has messed around with the guitar without any proper basics. So far your explanations are very clear, and I've had my strumming arm all wrong! See you in the next one :D
Yes it’s teaching to give critical feedback to a Free lesson. But I support continuous improvement so I’m giving feedback. 21 minutes was a bit long for the four or five things taught. There was too much repetition. That’s not just boring but wasting time.
Day one of learning the guitar is complete for me. I am a 15 year old who wants to learn the guitar and this is so engaging and informative and it really helps me to see whay I should do without confusion. This man deserves an award for his hard work and effort
I have tried about 4 other beginners lessons on yt and they just left me frustrated and unmotivated this is the first lesson where I actually feel like moving onto the next, thank you so much.
All valid points and very helpful! I always teach my beginner students these great tips to save them years of time.. · Buy an instrument with great reviews · Get a teacher at the start · Learn your favourite artists songs/pieces · Keep doing what inspired you to start learning the instrument · 5 minutes practice will turn into more · Have a goal when playing · When you’re in the zone and making progress, keep playing! · Play along to songs at slower speeds using RUclips or an app · Play each chord once and sing along · Go back to your old songs/pieces to measure your progress and build repertoire · Learn entire songs/pieces and some music theory
At 47yrs I’ve got my first Les Paul Standard guitar. I think everyone at my age listening to The Who, Led Zep, Oasis etc..regrets not learning earlier. I’m starting this course from from a complete beginners perspective. Can I say compliment you on the quality of the video. Nothing in the background to cause distraction. Very clear instructions in “ Layman terms” and the best thing of all is starting from first sitting /holding the guitar without making us feel stupid. Other tutorials I checked do this in a tone / manner making us feel like idiots. I sincerely thank your team for getting me on the path to playing guitar as of today 🙏🏼✌️
Thanks Davo! We're glad to help you get started on your guitar journey as its one that is never too late to start! We look forward to hearing how you progress with the course! 🎸
I've been playing guitar for 10 years and like to go back to the basics every so often. Even if it's stuff I know sometimes it's nice to just reiterate, reaffirm, practice, and try new things. You hold the pick differently than I do. I hold it the same way but a smidge further up my index when my thumb then has a strong pinch on the pick at a right angle. The way you hold the pick is looser and flatter and feels a little odd to me but I've noticed it's much better for faster picking. And the way I typically hold the pick is better for really strong attacks. I honestly love finding these minute things that people might take for granted or don't realize. They make us all better players. Thanks!
I bought my first guitar yesterday a Gibson Les Paul Standard '60s Limited-Edition Electric Guitar Honey Lemon Burst. It looks beautiful and sounds amazing. I have never played a guitar before. Today was day 1 of the 30 day challenge. It was a challenge for me to get a clean E minor chord. Very grateful for this video series and looking forward to tomorrow's lesson.
I love it when you describe how it feels for us when its our first time holding the guitar and the physicality of the finger placements. If you didn't mention that I would have gone thinking welp maybe guitar is not for me because it stresses my hands a lot. But since you told me its normal then I felt more at peace. It's little things like this that I appreciate the most because you're not just teaching us by the book lessons but you make it feel like you're a friend teaching us how to play the guitar. Also, hooray for my first day. I hope I can survive till the 30th. I will survive.
I used to play when I was younger. Then I had a couple wrist injuries and it became hard to play. My guitar was sad in my attic so I decided to try relearning it. Thank you for this lesson! I understood everything perfectly.
This is my first time picking up a guitar my first lesson. I have to say while the first video is as basic as it gets for your first day it’s also so important for me. Albeit a simple exercise, it’s not at all overwhelming and much needed exercise. I look so forward to all 30 lessons.
Hello from Turkey!:) I'm a teacher of English and a student of classical guitar:) I appreciate your courses to teach guitar for free. This is so crucial. I recommend you for my students both for guitar and for your nice English speaking:) Thank you man!

This is an amazing opportunity you gave us! I've already learned chords with RUclips but will do the whole journey again with you. Thank you for being so thorough and patient!

hey guys im 23 year old and its my first day of learning guitar . I want to learn guitar with this series in a proper manner. I am an average in everything i do but i really want to excel in guitar. Thanks for this man for guiding me
I have viewed a number of videos on RUclips, however your channel is the only one I can follow with ease.. I have treated myself to a new guitar for Christmas, and have never in 50 odd years have I even picked up a musical instrument. Within a day, I am already seeing progress.. Thank you.. I will be following your guide for the full 30 days, and know doubt have it on repeat until I can play freely..
I recommend this course for any one known nothing about guitar same as me This course really super🔥 It built-up my basics and skills that allowed me to learn what ever I want to play in an easy way with understanding what I am doing from A to Z Thanks for the crew who made this course, thanks for the effort♥️ I hope U find my comment well ✨
This is good, so many other "beginner" videos talking about "hitting the root on the fifth in the key of B focusing on the triad natural pinch harmonic tuned down 1 and a half steps during the EL84 biasing setup with a compound radius fret buzz on the twelfth" get those simple things down and you'll be good for your second beginner lesson. 😋 Many of these videos forget that beginner means starting out. This one is excellent!
Thank you so much and bravo, nobody else is putting out a 30 day lesson and challenge like this! My main fault is definitely not picking the guitar up daily, so this is a great challenge as well as learning again from scratch.
I just found this course and have gone through the first 2 lessons on the website. I`m 60 and have wanted to play guitar for years. This course, so far, is easy to follow along and very informative for a beginner and the teacher is very knowledgeable and that comes out in his teaching.
I wanted to learn guitar since forever. Finally bought a guitar couple days back and couldn't find any good videos till i found this challenge. Hoping to finally achieve my lifetime dream
I've tried picking up guitar three or four times within the past few years (once with a teacher, other times on my own), and I've always struggled to understand what I'm doing and keep at it. Hoping to build a habit by following along with this 30 day challenge! Cheers, and thanks for the (so far) easy to understand lessons.

I used to play about 10 years ago and I just bought a cheap electric to try and get back into it. The amount of horrible habits I developed from being self-taught are astronomical. I just want to say, the way you explain this video and how you reassure brand new beginners and returning players made me hang on your every word. And man, I feel humbled and excited to do the remaining 29 days of this. One of my biggest challenges was interfering with other strings while playing because I never once considered my thumb position nor curled my fingers properly. Doing these exercises was tiring as hell and that just goes to show how much I need to develop, but the fact you were so reassuring by saying things like "expect it to feel uncomfortable at first" goes such a long way. I can't tell you the amount of teachers across different fields who would never even consider giving reassurances such as that, and it goes such a long way towards keeping your students interested. Thank you so much for uploading this, you have a very comprehensive and patient teaching style, while at the same time keeping even the most basic concepts interesting. You're a legend and I wish I could subscribe more than once

I'm so glad I came across this video I picked up a guitar today and was determined to learn... After going through different videos on RUclips which I was dissatisfied with, I came across this video and I must say; your method of teaching is top notch and you explain so beautifully well! Excellent……You are a really good teacher with a pleasant and calm voice…..I really like the way you’re presenting this course material for beginners, it’s simple and easy to understand….love the blackboard system…..What are the pens you’re using ?….I’ve already started to get calluses on the tips and they feel quite desensitised,an unusual sensation.
